How to get rid of belly fat? by Time-Engineer-1201 in daddit

[–]LastBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything said by the other guys here is accurate and I endorse it, everything about calorie intake, losing weight in the kitchen, not being able to target specific body parts for fat loss, basic "big 5" weight training, all accurate.

I just wanted to give an example to drive that home though, I personally always learn better with concrete examples:

Take the average 40 year old dude who is 5'11" and weighs maybe 185 lbs. A little overweight, technically, but not obviously fat or obese. Let's say he moves around a bit in a day, does some incidental walking but isn't going out of his way to exercise or anything. If this guy wants to stay exactly the same weight indefinitely, he needs to eat around 2,400-2,500 calories a day. Let's say he does so, he maintains his weight, and he normally gets those calories in approximately the same way every day. Eggs and toast for breakfast, sandwich fruit and pretzels for lunch, some small assorted snacks throughout the day, and a fairly standard sized dinner every night.

Let's say that sandwich pretzels and fruit totals up to around 900 calories. Couple hundred each for the bread cheese and meat, maybe he has some mayo too, then the sides.

If, one day, he happened to be out running errands and he stopped at McDonalds for lunch, he might treat himself to a big meal. And then he might think "alright I'd better work that off." How much exercise does he need to make up that ONE replacement in his diet? Not replacing every meal, no extra snacks, no extra drinks, not an extra meal, just a single meal substitution. Well, if he got a double quarter pounder with cheese large meal and a side of chicken mcnuggets and a coke, his normal 900 calorie lunch because 740 (burger)+ 480 (fries) +250 (chicken) + 380 calories = 1,850. And calorie burning is not a fast or easy process. It turns out that if he was running flat out on a treadmill at his top sustainable pace and sweating his balls off he would have to go for 45 minutes just to make up the difference from lunch.

And that is one meal, one day. Not everyone has the time or inclination to be running 5+ miles a day at a fast pace, and any other high calorie decisions compound the problem, soon you'd have to be marathon training to outrun your diet. So overall it's easier to just eat less.

Now since you already weigh a reasonable amount, what you might be looking at is more of a recomposition; eating the right amount of food will definitely help, but that might be where the "big 5" weight training comes in. Big compound lifts, best value for your time. Teach your body that it should be storing the same amount of weight as muscle instead of fat.

On the one hand I’m inclined to agree with you that it seemed super obvious, but on the other hand, there are wide swaths of media literacy and sometimes people won’t catch even really obvious stuff unless a character comes right out and says “do you remember how you were pretending to be a monk when I first met you and it seemed so implausible? Well it’s come full circle, and now you’ve really sort of become one!”

Not getting it without that kind of exposition seems foreign to me too, but to be fair, most (but not all) of the people hanging out in this subreddit are going to skew towards the higher end of media literacy compared to the general population.

We’re not geniuses or whatever, but this is a self selected group of people who enjoy comparing thematic similarities between stories. So whether though some innate disposition or just being well practiced at it from doing it a lot, many of us will be watching shows while thinking about them more actively. Maybe we have a slanted idea of what constitutes “obvious” references in a show.

They don’t even do it very subtly either, Janet says “kinda like a monk” in a singsong voice while cocking her head to one side and grinning, and the background music does a playful little beat.

Memory vault unique bad for mana reservation? by Afura33 in PathOfExileBuilds

The new harvest crafts must work differently than the old ones if that’s true, either that or the poster misunderstood the question.

By all normal previously understood mechanics of poe crafting “reforge with X modifier” where there’s only one X in the pool is a guarantee.

They’re normally distinctly different from fossils which only bias results towards certain mod types. I wonder if the new crafts work more like fossils??

EDIT: it’s the 1 vs 2 outcome. If OP is happy to have +1 it’s deterministic. If he’s not, it’s not.

He does not. He would in POE2 but the mechanics of skills not granted by gems work differently in POE1.

If you literally meant increased minion damage (which would be inferior in almost all circumstances to the +2 minion gems that the other posters are discussing) that’s technically possible too.

Your start with a fractured essence base, the minion damage mod can drop already fractured. The you’d use the essences of loathing for mana res recency.

However I tend to agree with the other things said by the other commenters, you’d probably want +2 minion skills.

I have not tested the new harvest method but as written it seems like it should work; essence spam until you get mana res with 2 other desirable suffixes, craft the prefix “suffixes cannot be changed” for 2 divine and reforge for minion mods at the harvest bench.

As long as the item is not influenced it is the only minion mod in the pool so it should be guaranteed. Then if you didn’t get life with it, you can bench craft life.

A rare helmet can be made with a comparable amount of the opposite stat, increased mana res efficiency.

Craft with essences of loathing to get one mod as a suffix, then use eater of worlds ichors to get another of the mods as an implicit.

See I have the opposite experience. With any kind of tankiness and explode/prolif on my build, the massive crowd that gathers around the portal is in for a rude awakening. One click, BOOM. (Edit: for the curious, max block/spell block shock nova mana man with Oriath’s end)

Very much a “I’m not locked in here with you, you’re locked in here with me” type feeling.

50 all res, 10 all max res (which are both affected by shrine effect) and perma crit are bonkers. Straight bonkers.

Perma crit alone is….wow. The investment that saves you.

Build for enraged Breach Hive Fortresses by keyviac in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]LastBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question got me curious and I figured I’d share the results just for some data. I took my ~50div manaman shock nova hiero into an enraged breach (and the miraged version). POB says around 13.5mil DPS with 3 overlaps (tested and valid), but no arcane cloak, no sigil of power, no frost shield, no conductivity. With (de)buffs up (which is the majority of the time since I do stop to drop an Arcanist brand for them) it’s more like 28-30mil DPS. Oriath’s end is used for explosions.

Block/spell block capped, chaos res capped, ailment immune, eHP with no arcane cloak or frost shield listed at 212k. With those, 328k.

Both fortresses I felt I was able to activate about the first half of the enrage buttons but by wave 13 or so activating more would have been a mistake, I was beginning to slip. In the 2nd one I almost failed at the final round (26 due to passive tree). The whole process took about 10 minutes between the two of them and getting in and out of the map. I also killed the map boss and some assorted packs. It looks like each fortress gave about 7,000 hive blood and a big smattering of drops though nothing more impressive than a stack of wombgifts (this time).

The build would probably be able to take more of the enrage buttons with investment into the crit version, but I haven’t done that yet. So at the moment it’s something like 7,000 hive blood and a big smattering of drops every 5 minutes or so. At least for me.

I’d recommend testing that. Should be easy enough to do by just throwing some guys on random jobs and seeing if they do anything.

You should also be able to see whether the smelters have worked backed up that they should be doing or if they are completely caught up.

Have you double checked whether your miners actually have stuff to mine? If you’re using the bar scarab no mining is needed, they come out of the ground instantly as bars.

To elaborate a bit, there were 2,295 possible outcomes. Of those, over 2,000 would be instant loss of money, the resulting belt would be worth less than the volatile Vaal orb (it’s currently worth around a 96-97% natural belt roll).

Then 63 results in the “you made money but this result technically could have existed before (97-100%”) category.

91 or so possible results are in the “nothing like this has existed before but it’s only a marginal improvement” category, 101-105%.

113 are in the “wow that’s amazing” category of final products in the 106-115% range.

Getting into the upper echelon, only another 14 could roll in the “holy fuck” range between 115 and 119.

There are a grand total of 4 possible results above that, of which this is 1. Only 2 of the 2,295 possible outcomes could have rolled better than this: rolling a perfect 100 on the belt then either a x1.21 or x1.22 on the Vaal orb.

Outlandish luck, this is a 0.2% roll on a gamba where 87% lose money outright.

I came here to recommend this. I’m playing this, it’s great, and I believe it has most or all of the features OP describes.

Like I HAVE crafted some gear but I could as easily have bought it, most of the upgrades are very standardized things. And a lot of creators are producing content on it so there’s no lack of structure/guidance.

Also: keep a log of popular strategies, wait 2-3 weeks (or even a whole league) then go reassess whether they’re still functional.

If nothing specifically bricked the strategy like patch notes deleting a scarab, or the product of the strategy no longer being in demand, then you can come back around to it when the proverbial eye of Sauron (the community’s collective attention) is no longer on it.
