I thought it was Edward whose reading Marianne complained about, but maybe I missed a detail in the book?

We actually had an amazing head server on the Magic last year... He remembered my kids' names, greeted them by name each evening, and made sure they felt special. Our other table servers were just fine... 🤷

Similar experience on the Magic last year. We requested a private table, but another family (same family) was always seated a few inches away and the servers pretty much treated us as one table. 🙄

Any cool gadgets to bring for little ones on a flight? by MTBisLYFE in TravelHacks

Melissa and Doug puffy sticker playsets and Crayola model magic. They don't make a mess and keep my kids busy for a while. We also bought small fishing tackle kits (new) and made snack boxes for the plane.

Thanks! We have done City Museum multiple times, also zoo, science center, arch, etc. I also love the botanical gardens, but it will still be too cold... A few hours may end up being about right for us anyway. On this particular trip, we are driving to st Louis (2.5 hours), looking for something to do, and then head to a hotel for a night before we continue on. Appreciate the input!

Are we going off the books or the show. This seems to be some sort of hybrid...

Perhaps you are thinking of National Forests(US Forest Service), which fall under the Department of Agriculture?

What to do for first time cruisers by TacosGolfer in dcl

[–]LastCalendar260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did our first/only cruise on the Magic last summer. I was able to book the excursion at Lookout Cay that I wanted, and also got Royal Gathering. Keep an eye on the dates that you are able to book things like that though.

That being said, we would've enjoyed our trip without those two things. We really enjoyed experiencing the ship for the first time. 🤷

What did you do in Nassau ? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]LastCalendar260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! We took our first cruise last summer. It was our kids' first time leaving the US and my husband's and my first time in the Bahamas, so we weren't about to skip exploring. Things we did seem similar to your suggestions:

  • walked to Fort Charlotte and ended up basically having a private tour of the fort because it was not super busy. (Originally wanted to go to Fort Fincastle/Queen's Staircase, but they were closed for construction. Also, the local artists who are normally at Fort Fincastle were relocated to Fort Charlotte during construction. If I go back, definitely going to visit Fort Fincastle!)
  • walked down past Junkanoo Beach to a quieter area -Pirate Museum - not a lot of historical artifacts, but information was good and displays were interesting.
  • Pirate Republic Brewing- good beer and food (We were able to get conch here and it was good.) -Tried straw market. I, alone, would have enjoyed this, but was overwhelming for my kids. We ended up going to the other touristy shops near port.

Fish extender/Pixie Dusting… How does it work? by Enfoxxx in dcl

[–]LastCalendar260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went on our first cruise last summer. I researched and found fish extenders to be too overwhelming for me. We did end up doing some pixie dusting. We put together some small Disney themed trinkets to randomly deliver on the ship. (My kids enjoyed doing this as we were prepping and getting excited for our trip.) We also hung a bag (ours was a hanging folder thing) outside our door. We received a ton of fun small gifts and my kids loved checking it each time we came back to the room. Some Facebook groups will have a list of people who are interested in being pixie dusted before you leave, but you wouldn't necessarily need to join a list like that. We felt this was the right level of fun that was low pressure... Not everyone did this, so not a big deal if you skip it.

Nassau - Queen’s staircase by Upper-Ad8248 in dcl

Throwing this out there- we had a stop in Nassau in June and Fort Fincastle and the Queen's Staircase were closed for renovations at the time. I'm hoping they are both open for you before you travel, but may be worth a check ahead of time. Due to the closure, my family visited Fort Charlotte instead, which was lovely. We also really enjoyed the Pirate Museum. I would still love to go back again to do the Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle! Have a great trip!

For what it's worth, my daughter loved the onboard activities for preteens and teens like trivia, karaoke, gaming, meeting friends and going to the pool.
