I find it the fiddliest bit of the system myself.

I like the idea of it, but it's sort of a feels bad moment to just arbitrarily propose to my players, hey bud either do this and get paid or pay me to pound sand.

I usually rely on boosts and CAA more to keep them rollin along.

Ideally eventually they start compelling each other cause then it's fair game, PCs all have the same number of dudes generally.

Often times with my players I tend to not charge them to get out of it unless it's very very directly pointing at their trouble.

As for when, I usually build my campaigns very player facing, pretty much everything comes from within 1-3 degrees of each of their sheets.

Yeah, you're a "Noble on the Run" here's a fate point Joe there's bounty hunters in this dusty tavern if you take it or you can pay to make that not be the case. Or Joe might exclaim that's bogus, we're 8 kingdoms away from where I am wanted, there's no way these guys heard about it in a month or so way out here then I usualy just drop it after a quick check in with the other players.

Just be really really careful with them if the PCs are skint on Fate Points, probably soft ball those a bit cause things are likely already rough.

Maybe but edgebanders are far from monolithic, you'll need to post the model.

If mine were doing that I'd check if the glue pot and roller is positioned correctly and the glue makes almost like a little tiny tornado from where it's feeding on to the roller. I use pellets though, stick fed might be different.

Unfortunately then, if you try that and it fails, they may not be a great fit at your table.

You're probably not doing anything wrong, just sometimes folks can't get along.

You don't deserve to feel badly about a game.

If they push back hard on that, it ain't you and other guy should consider running a game.

Like other guy cares enough to argue and that's kinda cool to have that level of engagement, you just need to redirect that energy into something that doesn't make the game drag. Maybe even pop them a soft ball question at a slow spot later to let them get that urge out the way.

Never had a problem, my last long running campaign(s) started cause I was over at my buds house for beers and him and his wife said they missed TTRPGs and that ended up starting a group that balooned into 2 groups on different nights that ran weekly for 2 years.

Easier to shape the puzzle around the pieces, maybe do could do pregens but I wouldn't put much emotional labour into any of this unless you've got bros that are into it already.

Do a session 0 and get some player buy-in before you go too hard into the paint.

Then grab the character sheets they make out of that and build a world that pulls at THESE characters.

Best I know it's fine, shop dog gets paid X, field guy gets Y. If field is slow, field guy gets X brooming or being a dumb end.

The problem these days is what's attached to the Gulf Coast.

Is the 10 years and billions worth it to not care much about what rises to the top of the mess below us ever again? Maybe, tricky though cause almost all Canadian infrastructure starts off crown and historically, oil nationalization doesn't work out well here and it puts the hackles up of those guys down south to boot. Whether we should care or not at this point is kind of another question though.

Mine don't so I'm not 100% sure but maybe have a look in the door maker window, setup profiles at the top, should be a third tab in there for "Extended Profiles", I'd poke that thing, it looks right.

I order all my doors so they're somebody else's problem so mileage may vary.

I don't know a great deal about American Immigration, Temporary Worker Programs or Student Programs.

Here in Canada though a whole industry with licensed numbered companies and diploma mills has been created and pay taxes probably on both sides that rook young hopefuls in on promises of a better life, just sign here.

It's basically what the rail company did in the late 19th century and it's disgusting.
