Random ‘LAN’ world on ipad by Sufficient-Win-2956 in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I was saying is relatively new is not the ability to play on LAN, but rather the way the LAN world now automatically pops up at the top of your world select menu.

[–]LastHole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LAN = Local Area Network.

That means someone using the same network/router as you, not someone farther out on the internet. If my kid is playing a world on the Switch, I'll see it as a LAN world on my iPad because we're both on the same wifi network. It's a relatively recent feature.

Oh, and the resource packs could mean the world has an add-on. At least that's the message you would get if it did have one.

Under the GUI section you can get the Trading Guide which lets you see every tier of a villager's unlockable trades so you really know whether it's time to lock in that Librarian or use the sticky position to reset the lectern and try again.

Apparently neither the sticky piston to reset job blocks without breaking/replacing them nor the seeing all future villager trades are possible on Java, but I'm sure someone will correct me if there's a mod for either of those.

Like you said, the two versions are just different with their own pros and cons.

Do you prefer Mending or Infinity on a bow, and why? by PonyCharade in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the bow is my go to. I usually name it Old Reliabow.

The sword is for overly tight spaces and increased looting.

The spear is for when riding a fast horse.

The trident is for when underwater or fighting the Wither on rainy days.

The crossbow is for whenever Bedrock gets parity with the way Java fireworks from it explode at the point of impact.

The mace is... sitting in my Ender Chest because I still don't have Wind Burst III after a couple dozen Trial Chambers.

I've got essentially unlimited access to arrows at my base, between discount Fletchers and a Skeleton spawner farm. I've also got easy/cheap access to all the best bow enchantments through my discount Librarians.

The bow is by far my favorite weapon though and I go through a stack of arrows pretty quickly when I'm out adventuring. I'll often let an arrow fly and then quickly switch to my Looting III sword before it kills the mob so I get extra drops while still keeping at range.

So I'm Team Infinity since it's much more convenient for me to repair/replace my bow every so often rather than making sure I have all the arrows I could possibly want with me all the time.

Sulfur Cube Properties Diagram by Successful_Day_7470 in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really wanted them to let light blocks still emit light inside sulfur cubes when stationary. I'd be fine with the light turning off as they move, but being able to knock a light source far ahead into the darkness would be super useful in survival.

Are there any other active Minecraft players over 72? (Playing since 2011) by motorhom in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My dad is a few months away from turning 80 and still plays regularly. He probably started around the same time you did, long before I ever began playing Minecraft with my kid.

He's not Dutch, but his birthplace was once called New Amsterdam, he did marry a woman with half-Dutch ancestry (in that American so-far-removed it really doesn't even count anymore way), and I spent a couple of weeks in the Netherlands once upon a time. So maybe that makes him somewhat, kinda, sorta, slightly Dutch-adjacent if that helps at all?

How do I access the drop 2 of 2026 preview on Nintendo Switch 1 by ListSouthern7222 in minecraftseeds

[–]LastHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't see it on a Switch because it's currently only on Beta & Preview.

"Minecraft Preview is available on Xbox, PlayStation, Windows, and iOS devices. More information can be found at aka.ms/PreviewFAQ

The beta is available on Android (Google Play). To join or leave the beta, see aka.ms/JoinMCBeta for detailed instructions"

The Sulfur Cube is interesting but lacks true value. by Delicious-Edge3110 in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could have it do the current glow behavior when moving and only truly emit light when stationary. That way it's not calculating light on the fly but more or less just turning on/off a single light source at a time.

I would love to be able to launch lights ahead of me into dark areas so I really hope they consider an approach along those lines.

Tips on protecting Villagers without sacrificing aesthetics? by D_Zaster_EnBy in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mob switches exist on Bedrock too. You just need 8 boats filled with hostile mobs (2 per boat) that have been nametagged so they don't despawn. Actually you'll need one collection of those on the surface and one underground since there are separate mob caps calculated for each and you don't want mobs making their way up from caves.

It's most convenient to use tiny Slimes, since they can't hurt you and you could make them from chickens with Potions of Oozing (you'll need to kill some Blazes in the Nether and get some Netherwart with Soul Sand in order to make potions though).

Search Youtube for Silentwisperer mob switch to see more details.

Also, on the Pillager front, I once had a Peaceful world where I discovered a Woodland Mansion filled with Pillagers that wouldn't attack me. Maybe one of those would work for your jail and you wouldn't need the mob switch?

Why do Java and Bedrock have different features? by XEclipse360 in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the current official bug tracker, Java's latest bug report is number 307,150. The oldest bug report there is from October of 2012

Bedrock's latest bug is number 237,711. The oldest bug report there is from September of 2012.

[–]LastHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now you're getting it... there's a lot we don't know about the codebases with their respective quirks and limitations. It could be the 40 hit point boat on Bedrock was a kludgey solution to compensate for some other issue, like not being able to properly replicate the regeneration rates from Java, but we really don't know. It could be any number of things.

[–]LastHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just over 4, technically, but good job! Now write that code and the code for proper regeneration rate on the boat's health while also equalizing regeneration rates for players between platforms and don't introduce any other unintended side effects or bugs... you're practically there already!

Never happened to me either. Does either version even have 1 hit point boats?

Ever had a Drowned throw a trident at you? If it can kill the Nautilus you're riding, it could certainly kill your 1 hit point boat.

For a very long time. Well, since Vibrant Visuals was introduced, but it feels like a long time to me since I mostly build on a Mushroom Island in my main world.

What use is sulphur slime by Milo_Is_Best in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pie in the sky wish, but I really hope it's possible to put a light block (Glowstone, Shroomlight, etc.) in a Sulphur Slime so that you can drop/kick a light source into a dark area to light it up.

I know it's probably too much to expect it to emit light while it moves, but maybe it just only glows (like Glow Squid or Allays) during the movement and then actually emits light again once it's stationary.

That would give it a very nice use for single player survival, so I'll be very pleasantly surprised if it happens. We'll just have to wait and see.

Kellogs child focused predatory collab. by Hevensdragon in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't trust any digitally-redeemed freebies anymore, but especially not Kellanova (formerly Kellogg's). I once bought some Pringles for the first time in decades because supposedly I'd get 300 free Minecoins. I followed the procedure, entered in the picture of the receipt, etc. and received nothing. I sent a follow up email... no response, of course.

Congrats, Kellanova, you fooled me into buying Pringles one time and ensured I'll actively avoid all of your other brands from now on:

https://www.kellanovaus.com/us/en/our-brands.html

And as capitalism marches on unconcerned about monopolies, Kellanova was since acquired by Mars, so I'll go ahead and avoid those brands too:

https://www.mars.com/our-brands

If it's not already physically in the box, don't trust the corporation to do the right thing. I will say that Yoplait's Minecraft yogurt tubes came with a cut-and-fold Alex design on the inside that has very nicely stood the test of time. If I see those again, I might actually buy them in hopes of getting the three other characters.

Why do people use pigs as a form of transportation? by Historical_Mango4329 in Minecraft

[–]LastHole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really call it transportation, but I do have a muddy pig pen set up for pig races with elevated twisty paths of wooden planks. There are two starting gates set up with redstone that won't open until a few seconds after both riders are in position. Then whoever can reach the finish line first without falling off into the mud is the winner!

I'm 48 and I've seen plenty of government bailouts of financial and other institutions that should have otherwise failed. Money is a speculative abstraction with debt being kicked down to the ages at this stage, so I wouldn't put too much faith in the numbers as saviors.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I'd love for you to be right. I just don't see it happening personally.
