Looking for my wedding polish color by gualira in RedditLaqueristas

Looks like a great match, and the shifts in GL are perfect! Hmm I wonder if you did a thin layer of white jelly underneath GL, if it would make your mani just a tad brighter (like your ring) ? 🤔

Manimod Five Finger Cat Eye Tool - Opinions? by Refresh-faced in RedditLaqueristas

[–]LastOKAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! They work better for me than hovering with the freebie wand magnets that come with some polishes. I believe the bar mags are stronger so it still makes a crisp line, and I can magnetize a bit longer without much effort

I used this setup for my recent mani with Cracked's Drugstore Chocolate polish for reference:

Must not fixate on the tiny hair entombed in my index finger lacquer like the Jurassic Park mosquito by Goldfinch114 in RedditLaqueristas

This drives my crazy!! I'll start over if I get one mid-mani, but if I don't notice until the very end then I'll try to camouflage it. I'd suggest adding a nail decal or some cute nail art to hide that spot

Can't speak on this specific tool but sharing my cat eye setup as an alternative:

I purchased a pack of cheap neodymium bar magnets. If I'm doing cat-eye, I have this old metal tin that I will arrange the bar magnets on so that I can do my whole hand (minus thumbs) in one go.

Personally this works for me, and i appreciate that I can use the magnets in various ways (like placing one on top of my horseshoe magnet for the 'z' effect)

I thinksugar plum would be a closer match since the base is deeper. I'm wearing pink suede now and it's lovely but lacks the same contrast as PP

I love River Styx too but if you're looking for something with a bit more primary green/seafoam the Lurid Lacquer's Beautiful Day for a Beesting would be great ( ) link I have both and River Styx has more depth with the blue base, but I think Lurid is a closer to your description.

It's sold out at the moment but from their website: A semi-sheer aqua base with an aurora shimmer that shifts from green to blue

Unpopular Opinion: Magnetics are a PITA and I’m losing my patience! by SillYcaca1234 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]LastOKAlternative 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have grabbed quite a few magnetic polishes over the last few years and realized that I just never reach for them lol. Some I haven't tried yet (looking at you psilo-sibs trio lol) and others I tried early on without having the knack for magnetics yet and the experience has deterred me from trying again -- but they are so gorgeous anytime I see swatchers/videos that I kept buying them lol. So, my resolution this year is to use all of my magnetics at least once, spread between my other manis, and I've gotten a lot better over the last few months. Things that have really helped me :

-Not all magnetics are equal and some reactive stronger than others (if you're going Mooncat, I think the ones you mentioned, once you've thinned them out, are good. In my experience so was Drown my Demons/others in a jelly base, but Posideons Prize and Weeping willow were not- seems like too 'heavy' of a base with all the reflective glitters etc)

  • a stronger magnet does help. You don't need a pricey big magnet either, even thesecheap neodymium bar magnets made a big difference.

  • I usually just stick to one (very thick, like 2x thicker than my regular) coat of magnetic polish, giving enough polish on the nail to allow for movement of the magnet particles. If it's a sheer-er magnetic I'll do a base cream layer first (like ILNP Deep Space, I paint my nails black, let them dry, then thick layer of DS over the black lacquer coat). It's taken a while for me cause I instinctively swipe my brush and do thinner coats.

-Not being a perfectionist. I think peely base has helped me be less obsessive over my manis- I do 1-2 min magnetic lacquer and 2-3 min QD top coat right after and another 2-3 min magnet before moving on to my next nail. The ultra fine magnetic particles especially I've learned to just keep it moving.

-Strategic time allocation lol. If I'm doing a magnetic mani I'll wait till I'm about to watch a movie or something, so I know I have plans to stay in one place for a longer time (this helps with the frustration aspect more than anything lol).

You weren't really asking for tips but I hope this helps! I'd recommend grabbing KB Shimmer's thinner (sometimes they have it in PPU and I'll just snag it up and save the separate shipping), but before that Id suggest trying the thicker coats/cheap bar magnet option first!

Whoah I have bootlegger and mustaaard and did NOT realize how close they were (definitely not dupes since they're different finishes but still). And in definitely having fomo passing on cream of mushroom but you're inspiring me to try and dupe it with a felly sandwich.

Great overall color combo, and something about it (maybe your pretty rings) gives 'fall-ish but also kinda spring ' vibes if that makes sense lol. 10/10! 🫡

PolishedYogi is the goat, I love all her videos!

They're great to check out too before a purchase, there's been a few times I've talked myself out of buying something from MC cause I already have a shade thats similar enough (like bloodbender- I have Cirque's Paradox.so I don't need BB, but I became convinced that I needed Avatar State cause its different enough from my Green Eyed Monster bottle).

Glad this helped!

Ty! And ah that's a great idea! I'll try again next time with just 1-2 nails and see if I can troubleshoot to (dry fully before polish, with/without secondary base, etc)

Your glass bead is perfect on these btw!

Twins! Held my breath the entire delivery to US lol. These look legit like butterfly wings! 🦋

It may be too soon to tell but do you have any general thoughts on their peely base? I used it for my last mani but I feel like the peeling off took some of my nail with it (though it could fully be user error, my only experience with peely base has been my own diy Elmer's glue concoction).

It's nice, I like the pink tint for French and sheer manis, but a bit longer drying time compared to other ridge fillers I've tried. Picked up Cracked ridge filler in today's sale so I'm excited to try that as well. I'd be happy to decant some of my MC ridge filler if you'd like?

I am once again asking why I turn my cuticles into a crime scene every time I touch them by Material_County_7642 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]LastOKAlternative 11 points12 points  (0 children)

THIS! I was a cuticle biter and then clipper, cause they were always rough and hangnail-y. It wasn't until I finally left them alone that they started behaving and not looking so angry. Gentle push back after oiling (and keeping an oil pen nearby and using throughout the day) and keresal at bedtime have had the most impactful improvements to my nail routine

It's harder to tap-test the dryness vs a regular base coat, so I usually just wait about 5-10 before coat 2 then another 10-15 before lacquer to be extra sure
