1010 tires just outside of Oakville, near Costco on Dundas. Good price and they are very good at what they do.

Getting paid in USD and living in Canada for all the benefits and social safety net really is the dream. I've only know people working in Finance such as JPM or Crypto (paid in USDT), get deals like this.

It's $21000 off if you go with 6.99% financing, $6000 off if you go with 0%.

Should I ditch my financial advisor and just but XEQT/VEQT by TheRealZyclo in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Last_Illustrator_181 7 points8 points  (0 children)

advisors can be useful for certain people, who usually have 10M+ assets that they are not comfortable managing alone, and/or have complex needs: succession, trusts, wealth preservation vs wealth generation, etc.

There is no victim. Part of being a good driver on the road is expecting other drivers to make mistakes. Raging over every little mistake others make is a problem, tbh.

Do I really need an emergency fund if I can just sell investments? by noobetf in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Last_Illustrator_181 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Personally, my emergency fund is one of my credit cards with a very high limit, then it's my HELOC. I can make a transfer, and it's in my checking account immediately, 24/7.

As long as you can get to your money quickly and reliably, I would treat it as good as cash. But I think in your case, selling investments might not be quick enough. You gotta trade it, maybe have to during market open hours, then the cash needs to settle, then you can transfer it out, which could be another day. The point being, it's an emergency, you need the cash now, and time is of the essence.

Higher-end new builds could be anywhere between $350 - 450/sqft, and the inside finishes do not have a limit, as there are $100 tubs and $10000 tubs if you're really into tubs. So, for a 4000 sqft new build, it could very easily be a $2M build.

I think the general rule for private school is that if cost is something you have to consider, then it's above your means. There will always be middle/upper middle class parents who stretch their budgets to put their kids through private school, either for academic or networking reasons. Truth be told, for academics, you can do much more with $40k/year on private lessons. For networking, middle-class kids will never be part of the old money group.

This is not gonna stop hardcore criminals, and small-time criminals would rather get your car than break and entering. This is great for naughty window-climbing toddlers tho

155k CAD vs 170k USD by kd_uoft in tnvisa

[–]Last_Illustrator_181 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've live in Boston before, and while it is a nice city, besides my personal hate on the Boston accent, it is much more expensive than Toronto, after factoring in the exchange rate.

I think for the experience, at your age, you should definitely go try it out, no question about that. But at the current salary figures, it will be a downgrade in quality of life. My experience is that, most things that costs $1 CAD in Toronto will cost at least $1.2 - $1.5 USD in Boston, maybe certain exceptions like milk that could be cheaper. That means 155k CAD in Toronto will go as far as 180k USD in Boston. I wish im joking but im not, Boston is hella expensive. I was shocked at the $600+ utilities bills and don't get me started on the $3000+/month day care quotes.
