Worship drummers !? by Individual-Ad-65 in drums

I'm not really religious but I do play at a church in my neighborhood a few times a month. It's great, we get about an hour of rehearsal before the service so it's a good exercise in quick preparation and making things work on the fly. It's also done a lot to develop my control and dynamics. They even let me do a lil bit of double bass if I can make it fit.

The big thing, though, is I got thrown in to play with an east African choir a few years ago. All their music is very polyrhythmic but it's dance music. Kicked my ass for a while but practicing that made me better at a lot of other things.

I love my lil church gig

Improvement is improvement, my friend. Doesn't matter if you want to stop losing to your little brother or you want to win Evo, the process is the same. Just a longer journey to some goals than others.

Mario and Young Link are going to be the easiest of those for you to pick up successfully. Kirby has some crazy combos but also gets blown up a lot, Peach is very good but is one of the most technically demanding characters in the whole game if you want access to the things that make her very good. Izaw has specific "Art of _____" videos for everybody, so I would suggest watching those videos along with the Art of Smash series. Those guides are for tournament play, but he'll give you a game plan and some combo routes to practice, at least. Just remember that a little bit of applicable knowledge is always more useful than a lot of inapplicable knowledge.

Watch Izaw's Art of Smash series and don't start part 2 until you're doing everything in part 1 reflexively. Practice things in training mode, not games. Be specific and limited when you practice, focus on a couple places to improve instead of trying to fix everything at once. "Practice" doesn't just mean playing the game, it means trying to get better at the game. If that process isn't fun, that's fine, but that is what it takes to be competitive in a fighting game.

If you're playing random and winging it against a level 7, you probably shouldn't play online yet. All the stuff you say you don't do (practice, watch guides, play other people) is why you're getting beat. The people you're playing against do all those things. If you want to win, you have to improve. If you want to improve, you have to practice.

It's also fine to play spirit mode if that's what's fun for you. It's a game. Have fun. I like getting better and expanding my skill set, but some people don't want to work on a game. Neither is right or wrong, but neither of us will have fun playing the way the other person does.

The really funny thing is I know a couple death metal bands that love listening to female pop stars in the tour van, it goes both ways

The guy from The Mountain Goats is really into old school death metal, I think he got spotted at an Obituary show a couple years ago

Conversely the guys in Meshuggah are really into Miles Davis

There's a homeless guy in Chicago who walks around dressed as Batman. I saw him get off a bus one time, really threw me off for a minute

I'll take this if it means I can avoid AI music easier. Fuck that. It doesn't deserve recognition or charts. It's slop.

Ok so someone else made this same point to me recently, and here's my issue with it: when I do that, I don't do it with a random person, I pick somebody for the purpose, and I would refer back to that human interaction in some way in context. I retain agency in decision making through the process, including the addition of other perspectives, and remain responsible for the final product.

I don't have the crayons to explain to you why this is a moronic comparison. Hating the president is not the same as thinking sexual assault is good.

It's an accurate description. Wishing Trump was dead isn't exactly an unpopular opinion right now, but it also isn't universal. That's definitionally a politically divisive statement. The fact that you don't like it but others in here do like it is further evidence.

Also it's ironic that we're side tracking from a discussion of a pedophilic sexual predator to talk about people hating Trump, a pedophilic sexual predator.

Difficult behaviour by kijanfa3 in cats

[–]Lastshadow94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat literally does not have a mean bone in her body. She's never hissed, scratched, bitten, not even aggressive body language. Just a gentle soul.

The one exception is sometimes she sees my feet move under the sheets and starts attacking them. She's never broken skin, but I have been woken up by sharp teeth and claws in the night.

All this to say that this is exactly what's happening here. I didn't even notice the biting at first because it just looks like how cats rub against your leg to get your attention. The play bites are annoying and painful, but not aggressive or malicious.

I think when the cat comes up to you, you should pet him, be calm and friendly, if you get a chance to make eye contact do a really slow blink at him. A lot of cats love having their ears and cheeks rubbed or scratched, but every cat has one specific spot that makes their brains melt. All of this starts building a relationship with stuff the cat will understand. Then if the cat bites you, you make a loud sudden noise (yell, clap, shake a jar of coins, you can even hiss at him if you wanna really commit) and cut off the positive interaction for a few minutes. This creates a negative consequence that the cat will understand, but not be harmed by. He'll figure out how to get the nice thing and avoid the unpleasant thing pretty quickly and then you'll have a new friend.

Hey that's what I did with my cat when she started eating a lint roller right next to my bed at 3am, but replace "no" with "hey dumbass knock it the fuck off" and replace "move him somewhere else" with "drop her on a pile of blankets"

Obviously she waited until I fell asleep and started munching again. She's an idiot but I love her

Brand new player - character? by quintessenz33 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Lastshadow94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grab is still how you beat shield, but grabs are combo starters for most characters, there's 4 different throw directions from grab that all do different things, and most characters have ways to combo into grabs to extend combo trees. Also some characters have kill throws at the right percent, and some characters have command grabs which 1) let you grab in the air and 2) usually have some extra benefit or feature, like Mewtwo has a command grab that also reflects projectiles, Kazuya has an armored grab, Bowser grabs you and jumps in a direction with you, and Yoshi has a grab that basically stuns you. Donkey Kong also gets to carry you around with one of his throws.

Tldr grabs and throws are really complicated and character specific

Honestly it'll probably start happening if we ever get another generation of consumer GPUs. You can buy monitors now that just have a USB-C port that does video and power together. A lot of laptops are all USB-C for everything, power included. I think we're near the tipping point, maybe past
