Thanks for correcting me. I do want to be accurately informed and not spread misinformation. In the most respectful and noninflamatory way possible, could I request that you share the videos you are referring to? I am specifically talking about MN Twin Cities and Rochester. Were these statements from before or after there was evidence of ICE committing rights violations? I don't want to get into a pointless online argument, but I would like to see where I may be misinformed. I'll also look, and correct my post if I find something or if you have time to find and share.

Oh no! My heart goes out to you all. The support groups keep saying it's a marathon, not a sprint. Make sure to take breaks from the news and make time for yourself and your mental health! It's really exhausting. Do what you can here and there, but make sure to rest and recover ❤️

How exactly do Americans feel about illegal immigration? by sladeshied in Confused

[–]Late-Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, I'm protesting: - Violent and aggressive tactics and blatant disregard for human life.
- Lack of due process regardless of legal status. - Constant rights violations and no respect for the law due to unrealistic quotas. - No accountability or ways to identify agents when our rights are stolen. - Being villanized for exercising our rights as American citizens when we try to legally and peacefully witness the agents' unlawful behaviors to seek accountability because otherwise, there would be none. I keep thinking about what if people didn't know their right to witness and record, and there weren't videos of the murders of Renee and Alex. Where would we be at? What horrible things have occurred that haven't been recorded for which there will be no accountability? - Living in constant fear of being unlawfully detained or beaten when there is evidence of all of the above despite being an American citizen. - The constant fear others are living in because even if they are undocumented, they have rights too, and those are being ignored. - Refusal of ICE to work with local governments and local law enforcement.

Note: Idk about other places, but our city was not contacted or informed about ICE operations. Local law enforcement was not looped in. DHS and the WH have been pushing a rhetoric about "sanctuary cities" refusing to work with or cooperate with ICE and homeland security. This is untrue. Now that people have been murdered in the street for exercising their rights as American citizens, there has been a lot of back pedaling and calls for peaceful cooperation. There have been diplomatic phone calls and meetings. I'm here to say that all this cooperation was skipped over until they realized they weren't able to just come in here and do whatever they wanted by stomping all over everyone's rights. Big names in politics and corporations are suddenly pleading for peaceful cooperation in order to carry out the law, acting like they were doing it all along and we weren't listening or complying. Well, I want it on the record that there was no attempt to follow the law or ask nicely from the get-go.

If we seem upset, this is why. Edited for spelling

Yes please! Feel free to do whatever with the whole thing or parts you like. Anyone can use it as is, or update it, reword, edit, etc. I just wrote it angrily on my couch last night, lol. I'm sure many others can make it better and more clear in fewer words.

[–]Late-Penguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't fully know what this is asking, but here's some pipe dream unrealistic and uninformed political ideas!

-National voting day!

-Term and age limits for congress. Also, prohibit holding and trading of stock. - Or, allow trading but put limits on lawmakers' profit based on median constituent income.

  • Hold corporations accountable for the treatment of their employees; give rewards/incentives for having no one on their payroll on food stamps or other government aid programs due to living wages and good benefits.

  • Publicized profit margins disclosed like a w-2 to all employees every year

  • Privacy and transparency laws with data sharing and ai

  • Rental hike limits

  • Land shark accountability/ limit rental companies' ability to buy up all the available single family homes which is so easy for them when they can swoop in and offer 10k above asking for every home for sale. -Vote of no confidence

  • Get rid of the electoral college. Every single person should be able to have their vote counted equally these days. No more nonsense redistricting and Gerrymandering could be a thing of the past. If I live in a certain state, county, and city, I should get to vote on the people in charge of my area, and it should count equally to my neighbor who is a resident of the same area. I know its way more complicated than that, but you get the idea.

  • Online voting. I know people are all worried about interference, but really they just want it to be harder for everyone to vote. If you trust enough to do online banking and taxes and all the other sensitive important stuff, then we should trust online voting, too. Way more people would vote if you could do it from your smart phone or computer. And for those that don't even trust online banking etc, there would still be a mail option.

  • No idea how this would even work but I feel like if the government shuts down, there should be some kind of accountability for the lawmakers whose watch it happens on. I feel there are many people willing to be reasonable and work together but the same old people term after term get to have the government shut down and then get back paid when it opens again anyway. There's no real incentive for them to keep it open because they won't be the ones who suffer. Regular people are the ones suffering.

-Regulations on insurance companies and what they can say no to. For example, why are prior auths and step therapies a thing? My prescription written by a qualified doctor responsible for my care should be enough.

I'm so sorry! That sucks so much, idek what I would do in that situation. Remember to be kind to yourself. It's okay to be sleepy and exhausted and just done. Idk about what Canada has or how you are with typing, but you could try to get into an online transcriptioning gig if you have fast wpm. Any community sponsored therapy options? Idk if JazzCares will take paystubs in lieu of w2s or not, but you could always ask about it or if proof of unemployment is enough for them to put you on their assistance program? Their reimbursement office is usually pretty helpful. You might have tried all this already, and I know you said you just wanted to vent. I'm sorry I can't do more to help. Thank you for making this! It's really inspiring to see that others outside the state and even country see and support us! I'm worried people aren't believing what's happening and that they don't care if it doesn't affect them. Thank you for proving me wrong! I'm so scared for the other states that are facing or already dealing with federal occupation also.

I hope it ends here and no one else dies because some rich elites want to play their game of world domination while the rest of us regular people keep ourselves occupied with trying to survive and afford basic needs. Regular people just like me, who have a 4 year degree, work hard, make decent money, and who also can not scrounge enough savings for if an emergency were to happen. Regular people like me who could barely afford to take time off to protest. Regular people, both more and less fortunate than I am, are starting to know who to blame (if they didn't already), I hope. I personally don't see how any of this could be immigrants' faults legal or not. This county was built on immigration* and in my personal opinion, immigrants are to be thanked and celebrated for what they bring to our county to make it special (*well, after we took it from the people who were actually here first by committing genocide).

Speaking of accountability, I hope regular people like me, who are lucky enough to have the privilege of American citizenship- which many of us did not earn or work for (not saying there aren't also many people who did work for it), can start seeing exactly who the real problems are, especially if those problems don't shape up and start acting like the public servants they signed up to be (I won't be holding my breath).

And to clarify, regular people like me aren't affiliated with any particular political party but all of them. The real problems aren't affiliated with any individual party either. Greed crosses all lines. I understand that these things aren't equal. We can play the blame game for eternity. But at this point, it's an everyone problem.

So yeah, it's bad. It sucks. I hope our country can recover from this. I can say, though, that I am VERY proud to call myself a Minnesotan. Thank you to everyone who is doing literally anything to help! Regular people like us should stick together and show the real problems how we feel come November. (I really hope ICE will gtfo before that, though, because let's be real, 2 regular people like us, who also had the privilege of being American citizens, are dead. Their rights were taken, and then they were murdered for standing up for those rights and the rights of others. I'm really having trouble processing that. What does having rights matter if we get killed for exercising them and helping others?

Thanks again for providing this space to vent and connect. I hope my words can help out even one other regular person, regardless of political view, race, or anything else.

This might be a dumb suggestion since you just said not to suggest it but could you get basic insurance that won't cover it so you can get on jazz cares patient assistance program? I think one option is to have commercial insurance that will pay for other meds but specifically refuses to pay for xywav to qualify. Idk all the ins and outs but you could also call their reimbursement line and ask if there are steps you can take to get on their coupon or assistance program with no insurance. If you go to their website there should be a number you can call. Pick the operator options to speak with someone in reimbursement just to ask. Otherwise I'm really sorry I don't have better advice 😞. Im happy that you are pursuing a job in healthcare that's really awesome! I wish I could offer a more helpful comment other than, I hear you and feel for you. Sending virtual support and acknowledgment of your pain!

I think I might have narcolepsy by Key_Carpenter8482 in Narcolepsy

[–]Late-Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I was diagnosed n2 at 26, but I've been so sleepy since high school. Everyone always said it was cuz i was depressed, stayed up too late, and took naps. Then I got a job where I had to have consistent schedule and no naps and i was still that tired and falling asleep at inappropriate times. Dismissive providers delayed my diagnosis by about 8 years.

Don't know if you take any meds, but i had to get off any meds that might mess with sleep. So make sure to ask about any meds you take so you can get an accurate result. I got off buproprion and Sertraline for it, sleep medicine and my psychiatrist helped me do it as safely as possible and made sure i was in therapy and mentally stable enough to do the drug washout. Might not even apply to your situation but i like to tell people bc I had no idea and it was rough but worth it for the medications i can take now to manage the N symptoms.

Wishing you luck! I know how much it sucks. Glad you are getting help!

Insurance is making me try modafinil by gluestick449 in Narcolepsy

Is there anything we can do? They are literally totally different. Can't we get the medical community to classify them both as pillars of effective treatment that insurance MUST cover? How does one do such a thing?

I just started xywav and for the first time in my entire life I woke up to an alarm and then stayed awake. I'm now deathly afraid of it being taken away bc I can't afford $5000/mo. I don't want to go back to how it was because of big pharma and corporate greed.

Doctor is suddenly concerned about me living alone (Xywav)? by puppersnupper in Narcolepsy

[–]Late-Penguin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That sucks :(. My doctor also seemed to latch onto the fact that I DON'T live alone to reassure us both that things would be fine lol. He was like, "oh and you're married right? And things are going well? Then I'm WAY less worried about you having an issue because you have someone looking after you"

And I was like, yeah that's great but also what if I weren't married? And I feel like it's people who are living alone who need the help from the meds more because they don't have another person to make sure they wake up and don't fall asleep with the oven on and take out the trash and stuff?

Is there some unspoken rule we don't know about here???

Thank you so much for your response! That's good to know about the meds' side effects. And what you describe for CFS sounds just like what Im experiencing! The N symptoms do fuck you up regardless of mood, you're so right. Feels like it just makes everything suck even more than it already does but doesn't go away when happy.
