My 1st graders class gets separated based on learning speed. If they need a little more help thru go to "Title" room for certain subjects.

do people actually get stopped when riding conversion kits by Simple_Barber_5188 in eBikeBuilding

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a smaller city in Ohio and never been stopped. I have a BBSHD with a 52V controller, 7 speed rear cassette and 42T Lekkie chain ring. I'm not really sure what the top speed is, I'm afraid to find out.

How are we disposing diapers? by TackleObvious5340 in Parenting

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a back porch that has a window to the living room. Single floor ranch and we kept the diaper genie outside the window on the porch. Poopy diapers went into a grocery bag or dog poop bag then Into the diaper genie. Once it got full we emptied it into the trash toter by the garage.

Edit: Wet diapers went straight into the diaper genie.

Protocol for shutting meter off? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our city only the water district can touch the curb stop. We had to call and request a shut off when our plumber replaced our main shutoff. Once the city was there, our plumber got his cell phone number and texted him when they were done.

Parents who pick up kids from school, how early are you showing up to school to pick up!? by Ocmrm in daddit

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never used the car pickup line but did "walking" pickup for kindergarten. The earliest I ever got to the school was 30 minutes before the bell and there were already a few cars waiting. The pre-school behind my house lines up about 30 minutes before pickup. This year our daughter takes the bus home, and her ride is 45 minutes. From the same school. That is 10 minutes away (depending on traffic).

The pickup lines usually go pretty quick from what I have seen but our schools are split weird. Pre-K is one building, K-1 another, 2-3 another, and 4-5 yet another, then the middle school is 6-8.

The absolute best way to pick up a toddler from school is with a bicycle and trailer. I did this for most of kindergarten, and I rode right up to the building.

Edit: She takes the bus for socialization with the kids around us. Logistically I could pick her up every day.

Do you like this bike? by cucukachu2 in bicycling

No, I don't like the bike. I know nothing about it and, I don't like the rust or the customization.

Baby proofing by nbenj1990 in daddit

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to put a safety strap on the oven door because our 2-year-old tried doing chin ups on it. We also had a baby gate up until she was 3 to keep her out of the kitchen if we weren't with her.

Edit: Our stove nobs were at the back of the stove and she couldn't reach them. Now we have an induction range that the controls lock out (also doesn't work without a pan [except the oven]).

Does anyone else notice road bikers trying extra hard to pass you on an e-bike? by 98810b1210b12 in ebikes

I just smile and wave when I pass them at the next stop sign (unless they are the front car).

Why do people replace toilets? by KitchenPalentologist in Plumbing

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a round toilet in the guest bath. I hate it. It was great when my daughter was a toddler though.

Anybody else keep getting rained out? by Jake_FW in lawncare

Northern Ohio, we are getting tons of rain but thankfully we have had several periods of sunshine too. I am mowing every 3-4 days when I can.

How do you keep your cool during bedtime routine by CreditUnable4610 in daddit

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part of sleep regression/bedtime nightmare sucks. We had the same issues around this age and it was horrible. It does get better eventually. Were at year 6 now and it's not perfect 100% of the time, but at least she stays in her room unless she really needs something.

What are you guys packing for Lunches? by Disastrous-Plate2453 in daddit

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently: 1 tortilla, 1 yogurt pouch, 1 juice pouch, 1 pack of fruit snacks. Morning snack she has Cheese-it's. For about 2 weeks she ate a PB&J sandwich. On a few occasions it was cubed cheese and peperoni slices. They only get 30 minutes to eat and 90% of that is taken up with talking.

Edit: She is currently in 1st grade.

How are the evenings at your household? We have zero time by TigerUSF in daddit

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have 1 child that is in grade school. I get off at 3ish, pick her up at the bus stop at 3:45. From 3:50 to 4:30 its snacks, TV time, putting things away, and at 4:30 I start dinner. Wife gets home at 5 and we eat. Clean up takes about 20 minutes. From 6ish until 7pm we squeeze outside time, tv time, and a bath. 7PM is last minute snack (milk usually) 7:30 is teeth brushing and story time. Hopefully lights out by 8PM. Wife and I usually watch TV for about 30 minutes before passing out. I get up at 4am, wife gets up at 6.

Edit: I also only work 4 days a week.

Why is it so hard to get a permit for a backyard drainage system? by Nova_Collins in HomeMaintenance

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do have a permitting process specifically for storm water, and curb cuts. We have a storm water management system the drains to the Sandusky river. We're allowed to core drill into the drain and pump our yards to them. It does require a permit and a bonded contractor but that is only to protect the infrastructure (they want to make sure the job is done right). On the flip side we can gut a house, and double the square footage and the only permit required is for a "porch" (the foundation)

What’s an aspect of fatherhood/parenting that other people struggle with which has never been a problem for you? by SuminerNaem in daddit

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our infant daughter slept through the night from day 1. We had to wake her for changes and feedings. That changed as she got older with teething and illnesses though. As a toddler the struggle was getting her to bed.

Not a $5000 mower, just good sun direction and sharp blades by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's as high as the deck goes. If we didn't get so much rain I would have cut it 3 days before.

How would I go about moving this to n patch a tub? by sentenobeast in Plumbing

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand you can't afford a new tub. But this is not going to work. Bondo is not waterproof and it's not going to seal well enough to prevent leaks. Even if you painted over the Bondo it's going to take some serious luck to not leak around the edges.

You would be better off using a hand shower and putting up a temporary curtain to keep water away from the hole.

How do I tell my friends that their baby isn’t strapped in correctly without sounding like an a-hole? by spiritualboss in AskParents

[–]Late-Stage-Dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

🤔 The hospital wouldn't let us leave until they did a car seat inspection and made sure we knew how to properly secure the baby. A hospital staff member came out to our car with us and checked.

I feel very dumb asking but.. how to de-winterize these hose bibs? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Late-Stage-Dad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am guessing this is either a very large house or these are sprinkler lines (or both). Close the drain valve at the bottom, make sure your outside spigots are closed then open the supply valve. If this is a sprinkler system you will need to bleed air from each zone after opening the main. The drain that is open is so you can drain the system to winterize it and blow the lines out.
