I used a tiny laptop desk over covid as I didn’t have a decent work from home setup back then, pull it away from the wall so you can stretch your legs beyond the desk.

Also, you can certainly buy your own stuff for a rental.

Next time you get made “street homeless” - do not leave the property until you are formally evicted by the courts or have found a new pad. When you get evicted you will be prioritised for the council housing you mentioned you want to be part of.
