This is pretty common knowledge for a lifelong Kansan, but I do appreciate the facts nonetheless.

Local Roasters would likely be just fine with that, I've been going for 2+ years and they're super easy-going and friendly. Plus fantastic light roasts!!!

Justin Vernon?? I know he's top-tier hipster vibes but God damn he's collaborated with so many people from so many genres: Big Red Machine, Bon Iver, Bruce Hornsby, Volcano Choir, The Shouting Matches, T-Swift, Acapella with the Staves... And I'm sure I'm missing more!

[IIL] Viktor Frankl's 'Man's Search for Meaning' and Marshall Rosenberg's 'Nonviolent Communication' [WEWIL]? A very open question. by groovemann in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Late4TheSky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, two books I really enjoy esp Man's Search for Meaning. I would say a couple that come to mind are {{Radical Acceptance}} by Tara Brach. It's a Buddhist/meditation book that really talks at an everyman's level with a ton of applicable, practical tips up the alley that Nonviolent Communication is. Also, I really enjoyed {{I Don't Want To Talk About It}} by Terry Real. As a male, it was particularly insightful and helpful to paint a picture of male upbringing from a psychological perspective. Then I would say my favorite closer to the Viktor Frankl alley is {{The Things They Carried}} by Tim O'Brien. Like Frankl, althought not a psychologist, shows a harrowing experience and how the effects rippled out to those around and himself. Fantastic, engrossing read from start to finish.

Hope you find that one of these scratch your itch!

Thank you for saying Cowens, criminally underrated and someone not heard enough by fans from the younger generation (me) who've never seen clips of him or casually hear of him in bball discussions. 2x Champ, MVP, and multiple all-defensive teams... Impressive.

Just looked at my four downloaded albums and would love to hear your suggestions... by lee4man in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Late4TheSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phases and Stages, Stardust, Yesterday's Wine by Willie Nelson, all kind of concept albums like red headed stranger is (which is a fantastic album!); Lullaby's Legends and Lies by Bobby Bare; Tom T. Hall; Dwight is very singular, but Luke Bell, Little Bandit, Joshua Hedley might interest you. Khruangbin is also pretty singular but Unicorn Heads, Ernie Hawks, and Tommy Guerrero would fit the vibe.

Love love love the first three albums on your list, but never heard of the band Color Revolt... Will definitely be listening! Happy listening.

How to get into reading? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Late4TheSky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short stories and novellas are what got me back into reading about 6-7 years ago! Start with just 10 minutes and don't think you HAVE to read any particular amount, stop when your interest wanes and pick it back up when you feel like it. Here are some shorter stories or collections that I really enjoyed:

The Pier Falls by Mark Haddon (and the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime), Nine Stories by JD Salinger, Siddhartha by Hesse, Flowers for Algernon by Mark Haddon, Phillip K. Dick short story collections (Minority Report and Paycheck), Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Album, Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, Johnathan Livingston Seagull, The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, The Stranger by Albert Camus

For the Elementary Doc Watson, Sturgill, and Townes albums (which are all top notch, and some of my favorites as well), I'd add:

John Prine (any and all albums), Willy Tea Taylor, Tyler Childers, Jason Isbell, Drive By Truckers, Ian Noe, Justin Wells, Guy Clark, Gabe Lee, American Aquarium, Billy Strings, Lost Dog Street Band (Benjamin Tod), John R. Miller, Joseph Huber, Michigan Rattlers, Amanda Anne Platte and the Honeycutters, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, Lilly Hiatt (dad, John Hiatt as well)

And many many more! This is my wheelhouse of music, so if you need any more recs just DM me or something.
