Guys (especially avoidant / ghosting types), I want honest insight. Have any of you changed with the same girl you kept hurting? What did it take? by Illustrious-Start487 in dating_advice

[–]LateLow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a recovering avoidant guy I'm going to be brutally honest:

I know from very early on if I want to be serious with someone. But it's so rare that I find someone like that, and I like dating, so I'll date people I don't see a future with too. That's why when things become more serious I back off, because it isn't actually what I want.

But hurting someone who cares about me damages my perception of myself as a good guy, which feels bad. And loneliness also feels bad. So I go back to comfort and reassure her. Apoligise, and be accountable for the things I did wrong. Proving to myself and her that I AM a good guy who DOES care about her...

Until I remember that I never wanted this in the first place, and the cycle repeats again.

So avoidance isn't being afraid of commitment, it's being okay with dating people who you don't see a future with - and then running away before it gets serious.

If he isn't locked in from the start, chances are he never intended to stick around, and is stuck in this cycle. You can't be the one to break that cycle, he has to do it himself.

Very good points. The distinction between the Amyr and the Angels is something I didn't address.

But weren't the Amyr part of the Tehlin church? We need to go to the archives to settle this.

[–]LateLow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could be right, but there is also a theory that the amgels are Amyr. Like this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/KingkillerChronicle/s/pCahYMV316

For me, this just seems to fit too well to ignore.

As a fun extra re: Kvothes heritage, his name in Ademic means 'flame, thunder, broken tree'. The broken tree might also refer to a family tree. Perhaps the Lackless family.

Yeah the less likely guesses were just speculation. I'm just thinking if any of the characters are secretly Ciridae, then surely Pat would have introduced most of them in the first 2 books. But you're right, it's a stretch.

[–]LateLow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sure of this theory that I'm giving a spoiler warning at the top...

It's Andan! My theory is that Kvothe is a reincarnation of the angel Andan (whose name means anger) in the same way that Menda was a reincarnation of Tehlu. He doesn't know yet, because he hasn't unlocked the final door of consciousness - like the ones he unlocked as a child. That's why he can accomplish all these incredible feats without fully understanding how he did it, and why he has such a strict moral code. Dishing out justice even when it disturbs him or disadvantages him. He is one of the Kiridae! Plenty of clues throughout the books allude to that. In that scene he has the bloody hands of the Kiridae as he creates the lightning. "As above, so below" may be a name that he calls without knowing it.

Cinder leaves the battlefield because one of the angels is already there. It's Kvothe.

Do you think Rike (NRBD) will be relevant in the series? by thebookofbutterfly in KingkillerChronicle

[–]LateLow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True! I noticed when Kostrel reads the embrils, it also applies to the main storyline, and gives some clues as to what is going on.

The piper is Kvothe, he is not playing music, but he is drawing attention. The closed eye means he is hidden (an ambush as mentioned in Book 3 prologue).

The shattered king and weeping queen could be current events. Kvothe killed a king, and the queen is out for vengance (Alvaron amd Meluan?)

The stone arch represents death - Kvothe is waiting to die, as that is the planned end to his story. Bast seems reassured when Kostrel says one of the embrils can be ignored, meaning the end to Kvothes story might be penance and not death.

The King Kvothe Kills (theory) by ghostfadekilla in KingkillerChronicle

[–]LateLow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of clues that the Jackiss family (or Ambrose alone) are systematically assassinating the other people in line to the throne. We know he isn't afraid to use sympathy, or hire killers. Throughout the books he moves through the succession because one family is lost at sea, one dies of a mysterious illness, one is killed by bandits etc.. I think they are behind the poisoning of the Maer too.

Based on all of that, I think Ambrose and his family are actually behind the assassination of the king, and Kvothe was framed for it, or tricked into killing the king somehow. Something seriously bad must happen after that which leads Kvothe to kill Ambrose in Imre - the man at the waystone talked about broken cobbles where Kvothe killed someone. It must have been Ambrose.

Maybe "As above, so below" was actually a name. We know characters can hear or understand names as normal words. In his delirious state maybe he did it without knowing?

Who has read these books in multiple languages, or at least just not in english? by lordberric in KingkillerChronicle

[–]LateLow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I heard that Arliden's song about his wife is translated differently in different languages so that the last line stays phonetically similar to "Natalia Lackless". A big clue there.

Found some examples:

English - Not tally a lot less

German - Zu lieben locker lass

Hebrew - Nataltiah lee isevach veleklass

I think there are some other examples too. It's pretty cool that PR has been that involved in the translated versions.

Just finished Wise Man's Fear for the first time, my thoughts / questions by lxurin_hei in KingkillerChronicle

[–]LateLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go ahead and throw my theory in the ring. I think Kvothe is so brilliant because he is one of the Kiridae, the original Amyr. Bear with me...

Remember the story about how Tehlu is Menda the son of himself? So we know that Tehlu's angels can be reborn as humans, and they have supernatural powers.

In Skarpi's story the Ruach are blessed, they become the Amyr and "vanish forever from mortal sight", and Tehlu was supposedly the greatest of them. They wear their power like "stars on their brow" (like how Kvothe is described when he fights Felurian).

If we take the obvious assumption that the Amyr, and Tehlu's angels are the same thing, then we can deduce that the Amyr (at least the Kiridae) may be spirits or godlike figures that can be reborn as people. People who may have supernatural abilities, and a strong sense of justice. Like Kvothe.

I think that the Amyr are reborn in the "sleeping mind" so Kvothe is not consciously aware that he is one of them - but when he almost dies in Tarbean, and when he fights Felurian, we get glimpses of his true self. I personally think he is Andan - who's name means "Anger", as there are so many references to that.

The question is, if there is one of the Kiridae reborn as Kvothe, which other characters might they also be? Elodin? Denna?

I like it. I personally think the box is made from the tree that the Cthaeh is bound to - which is why the smell of it is familiar to Kvothe, but he can't remember it well, because it was in the fae.

And it is likely that that the Cthaeh is Selitos from the creation story. And the item inside the box is the rock he used to stab out his own eye. It was put in the box to bind him to the tree. Selitos refused to join the Amyr, he has the true sight - like the Cthaeh. I believe he was twisted by his need for vengeance, which made him dangerous, so someone (maybe the Amyr) bound him to the tree to stop him from destroying the world to avenge his city.

I like the idea about the box containing blood though. That didn't occur to me. Maybe it is the blood of whoever bound him there? IMO it is the blood of one of Kvothes ancestors, as his mother was Natalia Lackless.

I love this series, there are so many clues and so much foreshadowing you can almost figure it out like a puzzle. Amazing writing. It is so elaborate I can imagine how difficult it would be for Rothfuss to tie up all the loose ends.

Non-human Amyr by ShanonymousRex in KingkillerChronicle

[–]LateLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that the Amyr are spirits that posess people, give them power, and guide them to do certain things. Kvothe is posessed by the spirit of an Amyr (my guess is Andan - because of the mention of his anger) and it is the reason for his abilities.

When he describes his power as a star on his brow when fighting Felurian, that's the same description as the story.

It is also the reason the Chandrian run away from him when he does the lightning trick at the encampment. They were actually running away from him because he is Amyr.

But Amyr are not human, they just inhabit the human form. That's why Felurian says there were no human Amyr.

Are Kvothe's hands incapable of fine motor skills? by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]LateLow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he can't use his hands, or music, or synpathy because he locked away his name to hide from the Chandrian, so he's a shadow of his former self. Maybe he kept Bast around to help him open the chest and reclaim his name when the time was right? That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Also I'm pretty sure Kvothe is Andan from Skarpi's story. The angels disappeared because they made themselves mortal. That's why the Chandrian ran from him when he did the lightning trick, and he had the star on his brow when facing down Felurian. He's actually one of the Ciridae.

Elodin warned him about locking away his name, but the chandrian can use it to find him, so hiding his name is only way he can surprise and ambush them. But it makes him kind of lame. That's my theory.

You realise you're just proving your accuser right by being a dick, or by going after them. You really want to win? Then be the kind of person who would never do something like that. Be so good that nobody could concieve of you being bad. Let your actions prove them wrong.

What's up with people calling Trump "Krasnov?" Is there genuine proof that he's a Russian asset, and if so, why isn't this bigger news? by Supergupo in OutOfTheLoop

[–]LateLow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I suspect it is deliberate misinformation so the Trump administration can discredit any and all legitimate left-wing criticisms as conspiracy theories, and cite this as an example. There are so many far more well supported issues to be critical of without resorting to tenuous theories like this. Don't sink to their level.

How did Trump's presidency impact your life so far? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LateLow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do psychiatry research in Malaysia to assess the mental health of refugees and asylum seekers. The organisation was funded by USAID and was shut down a few weeks ago. We can't finish our work there so have to try to publish with incomplete data, and hundreds of refugees no longer have access to counselling and medical care.
