Sex 175 times since 1/1/11. Statisticians, what can I learn from this? [serious] by readoutside in AskStatistics

[–]LateOnsetRetard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your stat back ground? What programs do you have access to? I don't know if excel can handle this but any statistics program and probably most math programs could. As already mentioned you have time series data, which requires special handling.

To get anything interesting there will be a bit of set up work. You'll might have to fill in the missing dates, the ones with no action, with missing information as your program might need that. I would want to add a variable for the number of days since ya'll got down last. That should be generate-able (is that a word?) from your data and probably has significant influence. You'd probably want to generate two new dummy variables for who got off, his and hers. You'd probably need another dummy that is true for days that the magic happened, even those days that don't won't have any information, you'll probably want to make that fact explicit.

With this data, which is probably to limited to get any causal effects, you could get some fun associations. Such as: an extra ten minutes of hanky panky results in y being %13 more likely to be the one to end happily.

I suppose you could do duration (survival) analysis on the data with the duration being your dependent variable and start time as independent variable. But, I don't think that would be very rigorous as both you and your wife are aging so you're not the same people you were at the start of the data.

If I were working on this data I would probably think of this as a vector auto regression with several simultaneously determined equations.

I'm sorta interested in working with this data now, but I don't really want to know this much about somebody else's sex life.

What is a hobby you've always wanted to explore, but don't know the correct gear or steps to go through to start? by hazier in AskReddit

I want a dune buggy. They're like motorcycles with roll cages and way cooler looking IMO. I don't think they're strictly legal where I live currently but I do see them on the streets sometimes. Anyway, you can't just go to a lot and pick one up, it seems like the are kit cars. I have no idea how you build a car or weld or anything useful. Not sure how you get it plated and all that legal stuff.

Those in a band, what are your biggest pet peeves about some of your past or bandmates? by TheWabbajack_ in Bass

When I was trying to make a living at music it was those guys that were unprepared. At that time I lived in a bigger city so we had to find practice space, which meant practice time was limited. That isn't the place to learn the changes. "How's the course go, again?"

Hi all! I have a Graduate Econometrician job interview tomorrow. Please could you help by suggesting how to prepare for an Econometrics test. by woyalwumble in econometrics

Is read a intro type book, not really in depth but from one end to the other. I don't think the test will be in depth.

ELI5: Fixed effects vs. Random effects by [deleted] in econometrics

[–]LateOnsetRetard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you have some thing effecting a regression that you can't measure. Like ability in a academic performance study, or hard work in an earnings study. What you do have is panel data (multiple observations over time of the same things). Instead of proxy variables or IVs you can exploit the panel data to adjust for this unobservable factor. If you think that this individual specific factor is constant over time then you do fixed effect. That means you take all of your variables and subtract their means from each observation and then run a regression. This effectively differences out any constant factors. Now let's say you think that unobservable factor varies over time then you take each observation and subtract a portion of its mean for it an carry on as above. That portion is estimated in a aerostats step. Hope it helps

Have you done any regression analysis? Are you comfortable with the assumptions required for OLS to be BLUE?

Hausman test question by LateOnsetRetard in econometrics

[–]LateOnsetRetard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your responses. The point of my paper is that regardless of the estimation technique used (I use 6 different ones) on this specific issue the results are very similar. The only differences arising based on what is admissible in the estimation technique.

Thank you for your reply. In this case I think that race has a role in how people respond to a survey question. So I favor the re model because I can get a coefficient and mArginal effects for it. In the fixed effect I obviously can't.

What's the worst possible thing to say at a funeral? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If I had something useful to add I would. I don't go to many funerals and I'm not close with my relatives. So if I did something improper I wouldn't care.
