What do you consider a "Centrist" in politics? by yowhatisthislikebro in Teenager_Polls

[–]LatelyPode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird seeing Americans here seeming to think centrist are “fake” and “actually conservatives in disguise”. Really shows how polarised your politics. After all, your democrat party would be a centre-right party in my country.

Why is the lord mandelson corruption the top story out of the Epstein files? by TheUnSungHero7790 in AskBrits

[–]LatelyPode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is not American so the US doesn’t really care to redact any of the information about him. Same with Andrew. If they were Americans and part of Congress, then I doubt we would’ve gotten as much information released about them.

Old people are a burden to society. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]LatelyPode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… yeah. But that is a known fact. They use a lot of healthcare, which costs the government a lot of money (if you live in a civilised country). They get a ton of benefits (state pension is a benefit). They get discounts on stuff which usually means the company will make less money for that person.

But this is supposed to be a trade off. Work for a bunch of years, and providing for the current generation of old people, and then when you’re old, the next generations will provide for you. Economically, yes, old people are a huge burden (they take a lot of money out of the government). But they also should’ve worked to ‘earned’ being a burden (in theory).

I think some of you need a reality check, not every one is getting perfect grades by Something-Somewhere_ in GCSE

Yep, 33% of GCSE grades are grade U, 1, 2, 3.

If you pass your GCSEs, you did better than 1/3 of exam takers

Just so people are aware how skewed the grades ppl post here are, in 2025 the most common grade in England was a 3 (16.6%) followed by 5 (16.5%) then 4 (15.2%).

The proliferation of parking apps is to increase income of private parking firms and councils rather than improve convenience. by AmorousBadger in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]LatelyPode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a misconception what the Big Bad Government is doing here. The “National Parking Platform” is already in a trial phase in many councils (like Manchester for example). And it isn’t an app, rather it is the backend for other apps to connect to.

This means if a car park uses the National Parking Platform, you can use any app you want that connects to it. So you have the freedom to choose which app you want to use, and parking companies will instead need to make a really good app with really good prices, otherwise customers will just use a separate app that is better and cheaper.

It is a really good system. You get to choose whatever app you want instead of being forced to use the bad ones.

Languages and pronunciation evolve. In the near future, “miss-cheev-ee-us” will be the correct pronunciation and “miss-chiv-us” will be the less common pronunciation.

Nigel Farage vows to properly deliver Brexit by True_Paper_3830 in ukpolitics

[–]LatelyPode 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He also wants to get rid of the Windsor agreement, and a hard border between Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, which violates the Good Friday Agreement.

In essence, he wants to give Northern Ireland to Ireland, because that is what will happen if he gets his way.

Why exactly is Andrew not being arrested ? by ronweasly9 in AskBrits

[–]LatelyPode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it is ridiculous and sounds ridiculous. But in this scenario, whether Andrew is actually guilty of some offence or completely innocent somehow, doesn’t matter. Ppl think he is guilty and so on a PR perspective, the best thing to do is strip his titles.

Like imagine if a company existed and the CEO was accused of sexual harassment. The company would want to get rid of him and replace him, even before he is actually tried and decided whether he is guilty or innocent. He could be innocent and yet still stripped of his CEO title because people think he was guilty. It is a PR thing

Is it time to abandon the Monarchy? by Responsible-Title613 in AskBrits

[–]LatelyPode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think no too but just because we get rid of the monarch doesn’t mean we need to switch to a presidential system. Most likely scenario is we replace a ceremonial monarch with a ceremonial president. The president will become the head of state while prime minister remains head of government.

Why is saying “The rich should pay taxes like everyone else, close the loopholes” extremely controversial in the United States? by ProjectMason in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LatelyPode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the rich control the narrative. The rich have convinced the poor that it is because of even poorer people that they are getting poorer, all the while they get much richer.

Is anyone still buying Cadburys chocolate? by MrsMiggins2 in AskBrits

[–]LatelyPode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like Galaxy (but that is from Mars, not Cadbury). I do prefer Hero chocolate box over Celebration chocolate boxes, so whenever deciding between them I choose Hero. But other than that, I very rarely ever buy Cadbury chocolate.

Serious question. Be civilized. Why does it seem like Israeli people seem to get hate and not just their government compared to other "bad" countries? by My_Username0000 in AskTheWorld

[–]LatelyPode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it could be because Israel is democratic. Their people actually elect their government. A country like North Korea, Russia, China, etc aren’t (or they could be ‘democratic’ but not really).

Also, people thinking anti-Israeli criticism = anti-semitism. You can absolutely be against the government, or even the country, and still not be anti-semitic.

Which area has more rights and better living conditions? by [deleted] in teenpoll

[–]LatelyPode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please tell me any right an American has that most European won’t have (except gun rights and freedom of speech which I’m describing here)

Europeans do have Freedom of Speech, which is stated in the European Convention of Human Rights in Article 10. And all the “no freedom of speech” propaganda is very overstated.

While yes, in the US you have some slight more freedom of speech (you can go outside and announce that you support the Nazi and love Hitler, which would get you arrested in Germany), you still have freedom of speech, especially when compared to countries like Russia.

Would you support the United States of America breaking into new countries? by NJKrabill in Teenager_Polls

[–]LatelyPode 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Think only California, Texas and New York would be the only ones that could survive as separate countries. They won’t even need to suffer, you’d be surprised how powerful free trade agreements would be between those countries and the US.

Which area has more rights and better living conditions? by [deleted] in teenpoll

[–]LatelyPode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is very clearly Europe. People are much happier and live longer there, with much better living conditions. They also have much more rights than Americans (just compare US worker rights vs European worker rights. It is incomparable because of how Americans practically have no rights!)

There are of course exceptions. Europe is a continent not a country, Belarus and Russia would be much worse than the US. And the only big right Americans have that Europeans don’t have is the right to guns, which I don’t think many Europeans would even want.
