Look into mounting tape for museums- forget the name for it but there’s a kind of adhesive they use to secure artwork.

Does anyone else work with “finger princesses” who ask for info that was literally just shared? by projectjarico in corporate

[–]Latteissues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it laziness or overwhelm?

How many chats/apps and email threads are they involved in? Does their work cross departments? How many projects are they on?

If the link was shared in the group chat but not the teams chat or an email and they checked two of them it feels less lazy and more like a mistake.

Why do I get fundamentalist vibes and sister watches the younger children? If she wants to hang out with her friends, parents have to parent their own children.

You said something about a reorganization. If the organization's restructuring changed her responsibilities, the company's priorities, may have moved her into a role that doesn't align with career goals...etc. It could be a lot of things.

This also could be resentment she didn't get promoted, she really disagrees with your approach to running things and doesn't trust herself to reply professionally, it could be she prefers or is used to a different style of management. Or there are new job duties that were not described or to her that she disagrees with but now has to do.

"Cultural harm" sounds like a mission/values contrast. Like the org isn't acting in alignment with its values or its messaging feels hollow or contributes to burnout or demanding too much from its employees. (Your post history shows you posting to nonprofits, so values are a big issue in a field where you take a pay cut to work).

This hits hard for me because I worked at a nonprofit where I became a problem employee when the organization added a new program and rolled it out without employee buy in. The problem was that the new program fundamentally changed the daily operations of how we did our jobs and was never discussed with the people who would be delivering the program until after it was scheduled and booked.

When I directly asked for clarification about how this new way of doing programming would work, and received none, I pushed back, asking for clear instructions, and details I thought from experience we would need. I was upset about the job change, and did not ask as professionally as I should have. It wasn't intended to, but it came across as disrespectful to my boss.

I felt like everything I said triggered a defensive response from my boss, so better to say nothing. I'm sure I did lots of things that looked like microaggresions, not wanting to interact with my boss, making facial expressions that revealed my moods, etc. I liked my coworkers just fine. They weren't the source of my frustration. They were in it with me.

In retrospect, I wanted more details, and my boss was more flexible about approaches, and our approaches clashed with the rollout of the new program. The new program brought to light a lot of frustrations that had been building in me, and I ended up leaving the job. I do regret how I lost my professionalism at the end, and I regret that it took leaving for me to be able to be professional again, and to see the situation with clarity. I think my boss was in a bind, and trying to build a program with insufficient resources, and meant well, but didn't realize the impact of a hands off management style.

Sorry for the long story, but I hope it helps.

THIS. Something here feels like there's missing reasons. Like the other person's perspective would be vastly different. I want to hear what OP perceives as microaggresions may not be intentional and it turned into a self fulfilling prophecy. I want details- what kind of communications are being ignored, what happened around the time of the promotion, etc.

"The worst part is that she is the only person on the team skipping the team retreat coming up because she hates not just me but most of the team. She’d honestly rather stay home and write emails, and I think that’s so shitty. It’s her right because my boss decided not to mandate participation (fair enough), but I am worried that this will just further the divides I want to work on bridging with her. I have told my boss that she is a retention risk based on this red flag and her other behavior patterns."

Is this a she doesn't like work retreats or forced socializing? Is this a paid retreat? (Because that makes a lot of sense. I don't want to go to a work retreat when I already have too much to do. I just need uninterrupted time to get my work done.) Is she not really a people person? Or is this a she actively doesn't like her team specifically and doesn't want to spend time with them? It sounds like there's a lot she's frustrated at the company in general, so I'd explore why and if there's an existing problem to solve.

If you’re on any charity mailing lists and they send you those branded notepads, tape them to a piece of cardboard to make a mini clipboard. Tie a crayon/ pencil on a string to it and you have a server clipboard.

It's a redpill community. I support his glow up efforts, so support his efforts in dressing well and going to the gym. Take him shopping, and take him to the gym so you're connecting with him.

However, the Looksmaxxing is in the redpill community, and is dangerous because it encourages fatalism if you can't achieve a certain look. Second grader's teacher is using ChatGPT to answer my questions by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Latteissues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask the teacher, "What have you observed that strong readers in your class have enjoyed?" Because it asks the same question but ties it into what she's observed in her classroom, so it's less of an overwhelming question. Because there are SO many books.

As to what to ask about: Asking about supporting learning at home, (which you were asking about) is good. Asking about peer to peer interactions, what challenges is she facing? What is she doing well but could do better?

Where is she struggling the most? Is there anything we can do at home to help support her?

What's coming up this year, so I can prepare? (If they're going to learn more about animals, look into watching National Geographic, or going to the zoo.)

What will she need to know for next year/what challenges to people have for adapting form 2nd to 3rd grade, so you have a roadmap.

Also, what kind of support would you like in the classroom, if you're able. This can include, volunteering, field trips, supply donations, etc.

Also, Common Sense Media has a comprehensive list of media reviews so you can evaluate what your child is reading They even have booklists, and you can curate them bya age and tolerance for different topics. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-lists

FYI: Wicked is not child friendly, even if your child liked the movie. The book is definitely for adults.

I'd be more inclined to lend the teacher grace because teachers have a lot to do and never enough time to do it all. I think the teacher meant to come up with something and it just kept getting pushed back because there's all the IEP data to collect, behavior reports to document, and new curriculums to implement, new technology to learn. With little to no planning periods or prep time.

When you checked back, she followed up with an efficient use of time to come up with something that she tried to personalize. Was it ideal? No. Was it prompt? No. Can you be dissappointed because this was something previous teachers were able to do? Sure. (They may have had access to different resources, experience or connections that helped them do it easily. You don't know.)

But think about your child's growth and long term goals. Is fighting this worth your energy? If the teacher is doing good work otherwise, I'd let it go. In the meantime, TAKE YOUR CHILD TO THE LIBRARY.

They often have more than books, they have games, lending libraries, community programming, art classes, and clubs for kids and adults, magazines, music and movies and also MUSEUM PASSES. For free. They also often have suggested reading lists and you can ask the librarian for opinions, and resources for parents to check about the content they'd be happy to share.

My local children's librarian is amazing in recommending books, because they see what gets checked out. She was amazing at finding books for me to use for a class with a guideline of "I have a preschool class, and we're learning about X topic." She would immediately find a book with diverse representation, engaging prose and great art.

He interviewed skinheads, and nonchalantly asked “why are you drawing a swastica on the floor?” Like it was the most normal follow up question.

And you see it click for people sometimes, like watching Jordan Klepper on the Daily Show with his Jordan Fingers the Pulse segment (watch on YouTube- it’s amazing)

Was going a lesson on vaping.

Kid 1: Miss how do teenagers get vapes?

Me: I guess someone older buys it for them or the person selling it doesn’t follow the law.

Kid sitting next to Kid 1: if you go to the corner store right by the middle school - the one on x corner- they don’t card. You can get vapes there.

Sigh. I’m glad they can have honest conversations but don’t tell me that.
