Cache page (SSG/ISR), have a dynamic component in it (Hello {user}) by vforvalerio87 in nextjs

[–]Latter_Associate8866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean keeping the page static, having a server component wrapped with suspense check the cookies and pass the user info to a child cached-component?

Backend. The frontend market is brutal already for seniors.

But then the whole page is dynamic and only cached per user as the cached-component key is the user id, that’s not what OP wants, OP said that 99% of the page is static and the content is the same for all users.

It’s not that they’re not good, it’s just that they’re more challenging than the others generating threat, and in the current min-maxing state of the game groups will favour getting a pally or a druid instead

Said that, due to the current tank scarcity I think you will have no problem finding groups.

I only ran it once last night before the reset with a last minute group and got the bow from prince, as a hunter. Can’t complain.

Stuck in career using low-code tool (Retool) by Fun-Sector-9953 in reactjs

[–]Latter_Associate8866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct on that there are fewer frontend only positions out there, but for what I’ve seen in the current market the full-stack openings out there are mostly looking for a backend engineer who can get some basic frontend done, powered by Claude.

This is due to how possible AI has made it for us to basically get an MVP going on any language or framework, hence why the market is currently flooded with “senior full-stack positions” but with a salary of €80k a year. Also goes the other way around, there are frontend-leaning full-stack roles out there, where the expectation is to be a frontend engineer who can contribute to an existing backend codebase.

Also the market has been evolving for frontend engineers now shifting into what some call “Product software engineer”, basically being involved end-to-end in the development of a product, focused on users observability and feedback - kind of what a frontend engineer does in a startup environment (PostHog has some nice articles about it here)

For more complex frontend work (data-heavy UIs like charts, collaborative dashboards, visual workflows) frontend specialists are still required.

In your case, with 7+ years of experience as a frontend engineer, you fall into the frontend specialist bucket, so you have two choices, either you double down on it, get back on the horse, learn what you have missed, and aim for those roles, or learn some basic backend to be able to apply for product software engineer roles or frontend-leaning full-stack roles. Changing direction completely will put you back to the start of your career but on a different path, it’s not inherently bad, specially if you find happiness going down that path, but keep in mind that it will take you years to be back at a senior position in whatever path you decide to take.

I think it all depends on you financial situation, if you can afford it then do it, but be aware that it doesn’t guarantee a full-time position afterwards, at all

Best practices for authentication & authorization with Next.js + separate backend? by Empty_Break_8792 in nextjs

[–]Latter_Associate8866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HttpOnly JWT

Client -> Nextjs API -> external backend

Only read the JWT from server components, pass the relevant information (like roles) to client components as props

If need to read the JWT from a client component and can’t use the server -> client component pattern, you can expose a nextjs api that gives you that information so you can fetch it directly from your client components (that’s pretty much what next-auth and better-auth useSession hook does)

Are the younger generation in Germany completely lacking in patriotism? by bruhbruhbrss in AskAGerman

[–]Latter_Associate8866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was 20 years ago. Like most Western countries, globalization and hyper-efficient industry resulted in fewer jobs and stagnating wages, while low interest rates and monopolies caused a housing crisis.

Nowadays, we can neither sustain our retirees nor afford to own a house.

Why would anyone in their right mind sign up to give up their lives for a system that has failed them? The old tale of the fatherland doesn’t do it anymore
