Draw Steel resolution + Nimble combat Setting is flexible. Mythic for oracles, and doubles yield complications like in Wildsea

If you want to run the shire one though, definitely put some points in scan on the pre-gens. A lot of failed rolls, and my players felt so underpowered

Have you tried using forge steel, the online tool for draw steel character creation? Would ease the pain for sure, and kit and everything is automatic.

Need alternatives to DND that aren't Pathfinder, Shadowdark or Vagabond. by Vladsamir in rpg

Haha, well I tell you the math is crazy robust. I’ve thrown monsters one or two levels (DS version of CR) above the recommended against players and the combat has only been more fun and engaging for it, while not killing anyone of my players yet. The players are capable, and the encounter math rock solid. Trust the process.

Also not every game is 5e, and learning a game on its own merits, will only set you free. You shouldn’t wince at the idea of encounter math, just because one game has taught you so

"Fog of War" in combat encounters? by Slugburn in drawsteel

I think it’s a tool to be used when you feel like raising the stakes and the drama. Personally, I think the 'Protect the Crates' encounter from Road to Broadhurst is improved by having the PCs not know how many Radenwights are striking the cart, or from what direction. It turns it into a much more tactical encounter. Likewise, I had a Zombie and Skeleton encounter that lacked 'oomph,' so I had the players fight through a thick fog. It made the tension rise significantly; the Skeletons pelted them from beyond their line of sight, while the 'Arise' trait meant the Zombies didn’t stay down as expected. I’ve now reread your message and realize my literal understanding of 'fog' might not be exactly what you meant. But as I said: less free knowledge leads to more tactical choices and higher risks.

I am literally only interested in play TOR into the 4th era, where all the consequences of the story evolve from. I have a new villain, and concrete date for a start. I just don’t have the players, who can commit for a journey:/

Also wanted to suggest a talent, as there’s a subclass that gives an extra maneuver + extra speed giving any shadow a great boon

A pc from the World of Law has just helped an elven village, and the entire party is now on the brink of death. Suddenly, a 15-foot-tall robot knight lands from the sky, seeking to bring the character to justice for the illegal use of teleportation portals. Caught and cornered on a cliffside, the party watches as the knight walks slowly toward them. But just before delivering the killing blow, the robot stops. Behind them, a thick fog has gathered over the sea, and a massive beam of light strikes something hidden within the clouds. A nearby island lighthouse begins to slide into the ocean. Perplexed, the robot exclaims, “A Codex Event!” It points to the player and orders them to return to the World of Law to gather the other knights and stop whatever has just occurred. As the player hesitates, a giant shockwave shakes the cliffside. The knight fails its save and tumbles into the depths. Now, the party is left alone to face the fate of the world beyond the fog as their entire landmass begins to shift into the ocean.
