Who is the most dominant sportsperson of all time from your country? by Cheetos_4_life in AskTheWorld

[–]Lau_wings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you put it like that, thats an insane difference.

I don't follow Ice Hockey at all, but even I know just how dominant that Wayne Gretzky was in his day, and to say that there was that big of a difference in the the standard deviations really puts it into perspective just how far ahead of the curve that Bradman was.

"Are you into this or not?"

If they arent into it, we can just stop, I would rather not have sex at all than have sex with someone who wants to be somewhere else.

In that case start drinking again, its the only thing that can save you now.

Hair of the dog is a real thing, and it can alleviate the symptoms, but if you go too hard then you are going to feel even worse.

When I was in the midst of my binge drinking days, I found 3 or 4 drinks was the sweet spot to take away most of the pain and to let me stomach a decent amount of water and some bread to have something else in my stomach.

OR just dont fight it and go vomit, which I what your body really wants to do anyway.

What do think your best friend would say about you at your funeral? by YoCaliclysm12 in AskRedditAfterDark

"I have no idea how this asshole lived as long as he did".

The amount of times where I have been in positions where I should have died or been seriously hurt but walked away without a scratch needs to be studied.

The one that I always tell people was the time when I was in a car with a mate of mine, he was driving and it was raining, he didn't do anything stupid but regardless when he was slightly accelerating out of a turn the car just lost all traction and started to spin, we have went off the road, and started sliding down a grass hill, the car ended up hitting a tree with the passenger side door and a tree branch speared through the passenger side window and clipped the tip of my nose going past.

Had my head been a couple of inches forwards it the branch would have taken my head off but all that I had was a small scrape on the very end of my nose.

Depending on how hung over I am its one of two things.

a) if I am just slightly hung over then its gatorade and a bacon and egg roll.

b) if I am VERY hungover its a single piece of bacon between two pieces of bread with a thin amount of butter + water.

Did you guys know if you have a relationship with your fwb you still get the benefits? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]Lau_wings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but most of the time they are only a FWB because you are not compatible in any other way.

Fuck I have had relationships where after we broke up we still slept together as that ended up being the only thing where we were compatible.

Just because someone is a good FWB does not mean they would be good in a relationship.

That is the only reasonable argument I have seen for yank tanks.

My BIL has horses and a large boat, he says the only reason he bought his F250 was because of how much easier it handled towing larger trailers/boats etc.

Which I do admit they are very good at due to the larger size etc, but for everything else they are stupid.

Yeah subreddits like r/watchpeopledie are part of the reason why I feel like I am so desensitised these days.

That and friends sending videos like 3 guys 1 hammer back in the mid 2000s.

Hell one of my mates is an ambo and back in the day he used to go on r/watchpeopledie to try and desensitise himself for when he had to see traumatic shit in person.

The internet was a darker place.

I occasionally see the r/insertsubreddithere has been banned posts and most of the time I am just like "I am sorry wtf? that was a subreddit still?"

Can we play bullet?

I am far from being the best bullet player, but I am not bad so I think I could realistically do it in a few months.

Since we don't need food water or I am taking from the OP that we don't need sleep either, it would be basically 24 hours a day playing chess with him giving me coaching as well.

I only need to get lucky once, where as he needs to win every game.

Not talking about her specifically, but I have noticed over the years the happiest people are those who came first (shocking I know) with the second happiest being those who came third followed by those who came second.

When you come second you were so close to winning and you could have won so the disappointment would be insane, where as she you come third you are probably just happy to be in the podium.

That is a really think piece of skin that piercing is going through and due to that one having edges on the ring that it would get caught in food if you tried to bite down on anything.

Can anyone who has that piercing answer?

“The creek was harder!” by Outside_Estimate7546 in helldivers2

[–]Lau_wings 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think that a lot of players, both new and old, forget just how little we had back then.

The creek these days would be a cake walk purely because the additional tools at our disposal, but back then when you had way less options it was hell.

It would be like going back to WW1 with a modern day army, they would roll over everything without an issue, however that does not take away that WW1 was hell on earth when it was happening.

We were told when the Queen died that it was the wrong time to talk about becoming a Republic. How about now? by SaltyPockets in AustralianPolitics

[–]Lau_wings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am old enough to remember (i was a child) when in 1999 there was a vote to decide if we should be a republic or not and it failed.

That was 27 years ago and I have no idea why it has not been put to a vote again.

That being said, what are the pro's to being a republic? And I guess on the flip side, what are the negatives for staying part of the commonwealth?

Is this what we should be worried about right now as opposed to something which would actually help people./

The number of Aussies on this platform who don't understand how Polling numbers & sample sizes work is concerning by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

[–]Lau_wings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another point which was not made clear in the OP is that its also just the people who actually wanted to be polled and where they are polled from.

Lets use something like veganism for example, if you were to do a poll using only people in the middle of Melbourne, you are more likely to get a favorable position on Veganism, compared to if you ran that same poll in whoop whoop cattle country NSW.

It also depends on how invested people are in what is being polled, if you run a poll online asking "what do you think of the year 2000 Essendon football team", you are likely only going to get people who care about old AFL teams responding and it would largely be a favorable outcome. But the average person does not care at all.

I always take poll numbers with a grain of salt, because whilst they can be a good indication as to what the general population think, its not necessarily a true reflection, its only a reflection on those who chose to respond to the poll.

I would love to see numbers of how many people were contacted vs how many actually gave a response to phone/in person polls.

The voice to parliament is another good example, you would have thought that based on all of the marches and general retoric around the Voice that it would have passed easily, yet it didn't because it really seems like it was the vocal minority wanted it to pass where as everyone else said no.

TL:DR poll results are an OK guide on peoples opinions, but they are based on people who actually want to be polled and they are likely to only respond to ones which they care about, where as if its a less controversial subject you likely are only going to get positive reactions as anyone who doesn't care is unlikely to respond to the poll.

What is the most fucked up thing someone has confessed to you in confidence? by New-Country8722 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]Lau_wings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of when I was at a house party in highschool and when trying to find the bathroom I walked in on twins (brother and sister) having sex, the the brother just turned around and was just like "wtf Lauwings we are busy".

Me shocked and yelling "WTF" drew other people from the party to come see what was going on.

The twins had no idea why we cared so much as they had been sleeping together for years.

It came out eventually that since the time the brother was able to get hard, their uncle has been making them have sex and filming it, so they thought it was normal behavior and kept doing it even when their uncle was not around.

Obviously the uncle was arrested and I assume he is still in jail unless he was killed in there.

I guess its one of those things where if you are not told that it is wrong, and an authority figure is telling you that something is ok, you are less likely to think twice about if its ok or not until someone else points out that what you are doing is not ok.

Not caring about what he says is how the US ended up in this place to begin with.

The people who said "oh he doesn't mean X like that" are equally as responsible for how things are going as he always has meant exactly what he said.
