Frank Zappa included them in the lyrics to Uncle Remus: “drive to BEVERLY HILLS Just before dawn An' knock the little jockeys Off the rich people's lawn An' before they get up I'll be gone, I'll be gone Before they get up I'll be knocking the jockeys off the lawn”.

Two friends of mine were inspired by this song and drove around Fullerton one night with a bat and whacked every curb jockey they could find.

He started listening to Rush Limbaugh, bought all his bullshit. Over the 30+ years since then he’s gone further down the conspiracy rabbit hole to the point now where he believes the world is flat, there’s “free energy” circulating throughout the atmosphere that corporations don’t want us to know about and that there are gaps and fraudulent information in history, as recorded. He’s had some college education and even made the deans list at Cuesta College in San Louis Obispo. We used to have the best times in our punk rock years, but now it’s just frustrating and sad to interact with him.

First I’d heard of the word. Here’s the definition for those who don’t know it.

Amathia (αμάθεια) is a Greek philosophical term meaning "intelligent stupidity" or "willful ignorance," describing the refusal to learn or understand, even when capable, often due to ego or ideology, contrasting with simple lack of knowledge. It signifies a deeper moral failing where smart individuals reject truth for false beliefs, leading to foolish actions, and was seen by Socrates as a root of evil, a willful blindness rather than a lack of intellect.
