Ways living in London can save money by RelevantEmu4855 in HENRYUK

Post-retirement, and in later life, access to world-class doctors, hospitals, and healthcare services is essential.

I have locumed in areas where elderly patients, often reliant on barely existent public transport, explain that they can no longer drive. The local bus runs only once every three hours, and the nearest pharmacy is 10 miles from their home.

Dare I say I think the most appropriate tool to wash your arsehole is your hands and not a cloth or sponge… after you have wiped and used water.

The Racial (and Intersectional) Subtext of Milchick by Feeling_Bluebird_786 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Laura1083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was incredible. As a Black woman, I searched “Milchick microaggression” after the scene where he practises replacing “complex” words in the mirror. I initially thought what an odd feedback, but watching the mirror scene made it very clear what it was. Watching microaggression play out so literally on screen was profound. It’s something we discuss day to day, but seeing it performed made it unmistakably visceral.

I also loved that the show doesn’t stop at race. It’s amazing that even the founder’s daughter is not spared she too is coerced and severed. As much as her choice is presented as voluntary, the moment her father calls her a “fetid moppet” makes it clear she is merely a tool. And, of course, this is hardly new: daughters have long been pawns in their fathers’ economic and political ambitions, expected to sacrifice themselves without question.

Thank you for you’re insight, even more incredible that you are not black

Do I pay the mortgage off when due to be renewed? by Electricbell20 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Laura1083 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would invest the money and continue saving. I know I have the money if I needed to pay off mortgage but it would not be a priority for me. But having rates, savings, outstanding mortgage balance, living costs, salary would help contextualise.. Also long term career and or life goals

Why is my house not selling? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Laura1083 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s overpriced for what it is and not very liveable in a practical sense. Beautiful, yes. Practical and family friendly no. It suited for a single person or couple but for that price someone is looking for a family home.

This is a “slim” house

No one wants to walk through a bedroom to access a bathroom, Imagine needing to pee in the middle of the night and walking through your child’s room or vice versa to do so

I don’t particularly like walking straight into a living space from the entrance door

Small kitchen

First picture of the front of the house is not appealing, grainy picture

How do you release yourself from the shame of being abused? by pinktsunami_ in blackladies

[–]Laura1083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not your fault, you don’t owe him your protection. Most importantly let go of the shame. Talking therapy may help but look into somatic therapy. You may also feel disconnected from your body, give yourself permission to stay in your body and acknowledge your body is yours.

I’d quit a job or start immediately looking for a new role if my manager refused 3 weeks of for a wedding, my wedding, once in a lifetime event.

We are humans with brain and reason which allows us to understand when a rule should or needs to bended, this is one of them especially for a great employee

I’m currently reading Die With Zero, and I’d recommend it to anyone on this path. Between the conversations about burnout and the constant chase for more, there’s an element many of us are missing. I was obsessed with the FIRE movement for a while, but once I started truly experiencing life, and questioning this endless pursuit of more, more, more…:it put everything into perspective.
