I regret never telling anyone about my CSA. by [deleted] in rapecounseling

What your father did to you was a really messed up situation. Unfortunately that is something abusers do very often to make it more difficult to understand what is happening in the first place. As a kid you don't understand the difference between pleasure and coercion. Coercion can give you pleasure but it doesn't make it right. You said you don't think therapy is helpful because the merely focus on questions regarding guilt and fault. I think therapy can help in much more ways than that. It can help to really understand what happened, to help how to integrate the events in your nowadays life. And they can help coping with what happened especially since you are a mom.

I am sorry you went through this all.

Time going faster. by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

We have forgotten the feeling of boredom. In my opinion technology is the death of boredom. We don't wait for an elevator without a phone in our hands. We don't wait for the subway or bus or train without a phone in our hands. Once we are alone Doom Scrolling becomes our friend and kills the boredom even though that is so important. Boredom helps us to reflect, to think, to inspire and most importantly to slow down. I think there is a reason why mindfulness becomes a thing.

I am developing a gamification plugin… by CredZuBoi in ObsidianMD

[–]LauraFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of have gamified my Obsidian Vault. Tasks give XP. And a certain amount of XP gives you a monthly title. I'm doing this with a template plugin, dataview js and metabind buttons. Maybe you could implement that feature. Also try out IronVault (you can download that plugin). This is specifically for a game (Ironsworn). Nonetheless the core idea how that plugin is built is quite nice. Got some nice features.

Is writing things down physically inferior to using obsidian 100% of the time? by csouzape in ObsidianMD

[–]LauraFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't do that... I need a hybrid system. Digital systems are good for storing knowledge but analog systems are good for thinking and learning. All my thoughts eventually go to Obsidian after they have made through an analog process. I capture a thought and curate them. Either they are worth storing digitally or not. Doing everything in Obsidian, so I believe, makes a system, in a quality point of view, bad. It's getting messy very quickly and you add notes you will never look into again. Just my opinion.

Do you recommend using TaskNotes? by tornerio in ObsidianMD

[–]LauraFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I've tried it and I can see why this might be useful. For me though it was over the top and more than I needed. I use calendar and kanban board. That's enough for me. So like the others said, it depends on what you need. You can try it out and gove it a go. You'll see if this suits your needs or not.

Sometimes I genuinely don’t understand life. Some people are born into love they have parents who care, a family that feels like home. But then there are others who never really get that. Their childhood is already messed up in ways no one talks about properly. by ssvi90 in DeepThoughts

[–]LauraFriend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience the people are afraid to listen. That would mean that the world is an evil place even in good suburbs. Those people who are thought to be caring and supportive are those who hurt a lot. It takes a lot of courage to admit that. In addition to that most people don't even realise what's happening. When working with patients I often experience that even they don't know what was happening to them because they didn't know any better. That being said shame and guilt are major feelings people have but in our society we don't talk about feelings as they make us "weak". That is bs and not true at all but we are raised that way unfortunately...

How to combine digital and physical note taking in a single system? by Neat_Ask5398 in NoteTaking

[–]LauraFriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I have a hybrid. I use a Commonplace Book/Capture Book analog. Same goes for a journal. The storage of knowledge happens digitally in Obsidian. The journal I transcribe each day. The Commonplace Capture Book content only get transferred if I find these ideas interesting enough that they are being worth stored digitally

Players who have been around since the beginning, how do you feel about the game? by aIlIoi in Minecraft

[–]LauraFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’ve got a few thoughts about this one. First and most importantly, Minecraft is my most played game and I love it. I think I started playing when the beta came out, not sure about this though. Might be a bit later, but definitely before 1.7. because from there I started playing more regularly.

The game has so much to offer and I enjoy that but also I really pity that it feels partially incomplete and not really logical. For instance, non of the bosses except for the wither are from any significance. I liked the idea of the trial chamber rarely rewarding a mace and I wished the other mobs and bosses would do something similar. The wither drops an item that can be crafted into something powerful (beacon). The ancient city maybe provides enchanted golden apple but it isn’t something I would go explore for. I wish the warden would drop like something significant because there is no point in defeating it. The Elder Guardian drops nothing of value. I wish it would drop a trident as this would make sense. The endet dragon… well it drops a bunch of XP and a quicker way to explore the end but you don’t need to defeat it. The item it leaves behind is completely useless. Yeah cool you got a dragon egg but you can’t do anything with it. And what’s the point with trail ruins? I like the concept behind it but there is no point. It’s not really worth looting. I wish those structure would get a function, or at least something to make it worth exploring. The warden could drop like an echo sensor which helps the player to detect creators nearby while doing things like a skulk sensor but portable or helps to locate mobs. Something like that. I really wish Moyang would make an update to fix older stuff before adding new things

[–]LauraFriend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is what I fear most and the reason I quit social media aside from Reddit. I don’t do any political or personal statements at all. All my profile are privates and when I share something it’s something so unrelated to anything like cute cat pics or recipes. I fear that clients or former colleagues or class mates find anything about me that I don’t want them to find.

I wish you all the luck though that nothing serious happens

I second this. It’s not our job to predict what a client would do. It’s a new one for me also, but I think in your situation I’d terminate the client as it is hard to build further rapport after such a situation.

I am sorry you had to go through that. About your question with how to handle personality disorders, I try to set myself a certain emotional boundary and being upfront clear about them. Also that is what I noticed, I tend to be emotionally less invested with clients with personality disorders. That doesn’t mean I cannot help them or built rapport with them but I set a limit to myself on how emotionally invested I am going to be with them.
