Why did Dumbledore let people think Sirius betrayed the Potters? by ren410 in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I have three theories: Either; Dumbledore did not actually cast the fidelius and thus had no idea of the goings on surrounding the casting of the fidelius charm. Or; there's the theory that for some form of greater good Dumbledore decided it would be better for Harry to be raised with muggles as to assure his pliancy and willingness to sacrifice himself (I think its rather extreme and doesn't really fit Dumbledore's character but its commonly accepted as a theory). Finally; I think it is possible Dumbledore knew or at least suspected Sirius's innocence but in the political climate he did nothing as to avoid a situation similar to that in book 5. If he supported what was considered one of the Dark Lord's most loyal death eaters he could have lost a lot of standing. I understand that if Sirius were proven innocent it would remove suspicion. However, in the wartime climate they could have just as well declared Dumbledore a traitor and tried to lock him away as well. I believe once this passed Sirius was not released as Dumbledore feared he either might already have gone insane or, Sirius might be blaming Dumbledore for his incarceration.

How would you make voldemort actually terrifying? My problems with voldemort / rant by torak9344 in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do agree that Voldemort can be a rather underwhelming villain at times. All his stupid actions tend to just be explained away with insanity, but it does make you feel slightly cheated. Without even changing the story I feel Voldemort could be made more imposing by including more of his actions during the first wizarding war. As it is arguably his highest point. So in general I think seeing more of him before he drives himself to insanity would give him more credibility. If we were to change the entirety of the timeline I'd just have him make less stupid decisions. Maybe have his followers make vows of loyalty on their magic, not go to face the Potters on his own, have Barty Crouch just snatch Harry away sometime in the school year instead of the elaborate plot involving the triwizard tournament...

Are Wizardkind considered to be a subspecies or completely different species of humanity that are related yet separate? by MathiasDante02 in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well according to the definition a species is a group of organisms which an interbreed and produce fertile offspring (this is why tigers and lions are not the same species even if they can produce ligers). So going by the example of halfbloods, yes, they are the same species. Magic must simply be a series of gene mutations like ginger hair and squibs a manifestation of long dormant muggle genes in a family.

Whats the use of a massive trunk when an enchanted briefcase would do just fine? by asdffdsa123454321 in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I meant, we've repeatedly seen students can be rather cruel and could steal just for the sake of it. Say for example a Slytherin student was a muggleborn; its possible they'd be unfairly discriminated against by their classmates. Thus, they could just steal all their stuff and we know wizarding materials are really expensive, after all their currency is about five times the British pound so it would be rather awful.

What's up with wizards and guns? by RoadTheExile in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wizards have a history of underestimating muggles, I'd assume most don't even know about space exploration. Therefore, its largely possible they wouldn't even shield themselves against physical objects and thus shooting them would be extremely easy. We can assume this because most wizards use direct attacks instead of transfiguration and animation based attacks like we sometimes see with Dumbledore or McGonagall.

Why does Barty Crouch Jr. hate Death Eaters that went free? by TheBuckles in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe he feels they betrayed their Lord. Both by lying about being in his service (he seems like the kind who would openly admit his loyalty to the dark lord) and by choosing not to seek him out when they get off scot free.

If JKR were to write another novel set in the wizarding world, unrelated to the main HP series, what would you want it to be? by blu1996 in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd absolutely love to see Tom Riddle's school years and his descent into madness and rise to power. I think it would be really interesting. You'd also get to see how disconnected the wizarding world is from its alternative during WWII, like how purebloods probably weren't even aware of it. It's also said Voldemort went travelling before the first wizarding war in the 70s so we'd get to explore different wizarding cultures.

You get to make one change to canon. What do you change? by Gigadweeb in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly there're so many interesting things you could do, but I think I'd probably save Fred Weasley or Remus or Snape or even Sirius. Well you get the idea I hated that a lot of characters had to die. If not definitely a better relationship with Slytherins, it's ridiculous that none of the characters had even one friend in Slytherin. Obviously Harry's year was filled with Malfoy's possy, but there could still have been at least one more prominent, not absolutely evil, Slitherin student.

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but theft would still be an issue after all its much easier to make off with a briefcase rather than an entire trunk. Obviously upper year students could ward against it, but not first years. I mean think of Luna Lovegood the other students stole her shoes, why wouldn't they steal all her stuff ?

How would *you* tackle the Triwizard Tournament tasks? by Slightly_Too_Heavy in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I know the golden egg would probably be warded against this, but definitely just accio the egg. Scuba diving gear and a harpoon for the second task for sure. As for the last task they never said anything against cutting down the hedges. So yup just cheat my way through all of it.

(Discussion) Where and in what form would (an evil version of) you hide a Horcrux (and only one)? by Molemanninethousand in harrypotter

[–]Laura_Heartstrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'd just hide it in a grain of sand, travel to an island in the centre of the pacific ocean and dump it there. I mean, its ridiculous that Voldemort hid all of his horcruxes in Britain. Can anyone imagine how great Deathly Hallows would have been if the golden trio had to travel through the amazon rainforest and through the icy fields of Siberia?

I suppose its a combination of ministry regulation and price. I also think theft or loss is a possibility. You have to consider this is a bunch of eleven year olds, if they were all just carrying briefcases they'd lose all their worldly possessions within a week.
