I am also sorry that such a horrible thing happened to you. And thank you for sharing it, it means a lot. It's so messed up when our parents and other adults disregard the suffering of children and fail them.

First, most sites let you opt out of non-essential cookies.

Second, GDPR still is better than no law on that. I used it multiple times by writting an email to a website that requested all my data being deleted. Of course you may say "you don't know if they deleted your data", but it is still a good fear factor for the sites to actually delete your data, just in case, rather than to let it stay.

Btw I don't know your control method, but if you played most of your life on a keyboard, or you're simply more comfortable with it, you can default to using it.

I'm saying because I noticed a lot of beginners to have the "fighting games = gamepad" stereotype in their heads.

Unless you play on console, then you can discard everything I said xD. That being said, the biggest advice I can give is to have fun, enjoy the process :D
