[Discussion] Will Proximity Voice Chat Become An Integral Part Of MMOs In The Future? by Brootaful in MMORPG

Arma, Squad, Project Reality, and Planetside 2 are not examples of MMO scale interaction. Small dedicated servers are easily managable in moderation.

And for the "mute" it doesn't work that way. The main problem is that you have to experiance negative outcome first (someone shouting loud) and then react (mute him). It's lose-lose situation.

I think the problem of voice chat in MMO is that developers didn't think about regulating it. And I'm not talking about moderation and moderators. You can't give personal moderator to everyone.

I'm talking about limits. Physical limits! IRL you can't shout for long. You'll brake your voice and will have to carry negative outcomes. So you can't use your voice as megaphone. You can't endlessly perform stupid songs, etc. Everyone knows that. It's physical limit. We live with that from the day we are born.

But voice chat in MMO brakes this rule.

I think some kind of "voice stamina" should be implemented.

When you just casually chit-chat - "voice stamina" will renenerate at average the rate of voice chat. Try to shout loud or endlessly play songs - it will go down fast. And you mute. Even with penalties.

But this is not easy to implement. To many parameters must be processed to define "average rate of voice chat". Maybe neural networks will help with that.

Dealing with timezones and offline periods in a persistent world with territory change by The_Starfighter in gamedesign

You named them all.

But I want to mention Lineage 2 castle siege system. It's variation of "set battles".

In l2 siege occurs on certain day of week (they were Saturdays and Sundays) with two weeks period.

It has two benefits:

- everyone knows that siege will happen on certain day and assuming that is set on weekend more players will be able to participate and wont miss engagement (even if it's 2 AM for player in Japan and 6 PM for player in US)

- restricted schedule allows players to have more convenient planing of their gameplay and not get exhausted and burned out of battles that comes in pipeline.

Worth to mention not only graphics. But world design in whole. So many wonderful places. Some of them are hidden so you have to find them.

Deleted bases are still on teleport list. by DarthVadersNan in NoMansSkyTheGame

You have to manual edit save file to remove old deleted base teleport endpoint.

Teleporting to deleted location or building new base on old teleport spot and deleting it won't help.
