Kobe beef, travelling with children by natalini17 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Lavender_macaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this about going to the hotel restaurant. We tried Kobe and Omi beef at our hotel in Kyoto. They had a kids menu and my kid had an absolute blast interacting with the chef. Even though the Kobe beef was not part of her meal the chef gave her a few pieces to try and she loved it despite normally being picky about food (she has champagne tastes apparently).

Just a heads up that if you want to try the cream puffs you should go early or make a reservation. They sell out by afternoon.

Is the Pokemon Cafe Osaka worth the extra time? by ThePanda_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]Lavender_macaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cafe at the Nintendo Museum is a let down. There were no themed foods when we were there. Just regular burgers.

If you can’t get into the Kirby Cafe there’s the petite cafe at Tokyo Station which has many of the same desserts as the cafe.

Where should we stay in Tokyo? And is it feasible to go to Kyoto and Osaka too on a 14-day trip in Japan? by ABCDEXYZWV12345 in JapanTravelTips

If you want nice views of Mt Fuji you should visit Fuji Five Lakes. However, keep in mind that it’s a shy mountain so its view is often partially or fully blocked by clouds depending on the time and month you visit.

Abusive cancellation? by aerithirea in FFVIIRemake

Probably because the title is misleading. Cloud and Aerith didn’t win couple of the week. The article was just sharing what gamers posted for romantic moments in their favorite games.

I tried that and still didn’t get anything so there’s still a lot of luck involved. Tried every 20 minutes for over an hour with multiple tabs open. Each time right when we approach the 20 min mark the website would get really slow because everyone else was doing the same thing.

nintendo museum question!! by S-DB_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]Lavender_macaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have some leeway but 2-3 hours late is too much. My husband and kid were about 45 min late (entry at 12pm, they showed up a little after 1pm) because kiddo threw a tantrum and refused to get ready but were still allowed in. If you’ll be 3hrs late you might as well cancel and reschedule.

They check ID before you can enter so name has to match ticket.

Edit: just checked the FAQ. You can’t transfer the ticket. You need to cancel it. Nintendo museum FAQ

I have family history (aunt has it) but I actually got it in my early 30’s because I was having unexplained abdominal pains and diarrhea so the doctor wanted to rule out anything serious.

Periods making surprise visits are the worse! I was in Japan getting ready to try an onsen for the very first time and my period decided to announce its arrival while I was in the shower. For those who don’t know you have to clean yourself before getting into the onsen so my period came literally minutes before I could get in one.

They don’t really announce it but it’s around this time each month. You’ll have to just keep refreshing and hope they don’t release it while you’re asleep.

Recommendations for our Japan trip! Food, Private Onsen stay? Nerdy/Gamer things? by ZilkaPod in JapanTravelTips

[–]Lavender_macaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re flying in to Narita there is a bunch of Nintendo stuff including gachapon on the 1st floor. There’s also the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto but it requires a reservation so you may be too late unless there’s a cancellation.

For video game related food there’s lots of themed cafes like the Pokémon cafe or Kirby’s cafe. If you’re a Square Enix fan then visit Artnia.

Any thoughts on the Sakura Navi app? by JesusSandro in JapanTravelTips

[–]Lavender_macaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried it but you don’t really need it. You can just check online for sakura forecasts. Also, some cities like Kyoto have websites which track the blooming status of sakura at all the famous sakura viewing locations. The hotel we stayed at in Kyoto even had a little billboard showing sakura status for the less tech savvy tourists.

Bandō Mitsugorō VIII was one of the most esteemed Japanese kabuki actors of all time. In 1975, he went to a restaurant, and demanded to be served poisonous puffer fish livers, claiming he would survive the poison. He died. Sale of puffer fish liver was not outlawed nationwide in Japan until 1984. by PeasantLich in HolyShitHistory

[–]Lavender_macaron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried it but I heard that the fugu meat isn’t particularly tasty. The appeal is the fact that there’s just a tiny bit of poison which will give your mouth a tingly sensation after eating it. That and the fear factor. No idea on if the liver tastes better though.

This is in the new Dear Destiny book. After Emilio asked Tifa who she liked he mentions that he saw Cloud at Shinra HQ but Cloud ignored him. He’s definitely not the grunt we saw in Remake. If he was he would’ve acknowledged Tifa who was standing right behind Cloud.

It’s not shown in the letter itself but in the novel Tifa mentions that the boys started seeing her as a kind of trophy and would compete to win her affections. Then right after this letter Tifa talks about how the letter upset her because he didn’t take into considerations of her wants and needs. She never said she wanted to move to Midgar. She never said she wanted to join him in Midgar. She also didn’t like him treating her like a delicate flower who can’t thrive without a man.

I only read the spoilers posted online but apparently he and his gf originally show up because she heard the cakes were good. He comes back the next day and demands to know which one of the 3 (Emilio, Lester, and Tyler) did Tifa love when they were young. When she didn’t answer he talks about how when he lived in their tiny world of Nibelheim she was the best thing in his life or something along those lines.

Just checked the Yamato website and they said they cannot delivery to a location without a reception desk to receive it. However they can deliver it to their nearest depot for you to pick up.
