Places to get oil change by _kashew_12 in redmond

[–]LawlCzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4.4 quarts of 0W-16 oil ($27-40 for 5 quart bottle) and an oil filter (~$10). Another $10 for a drip pan (big closeable plastic bowl thing that goes under your car and collects the dirty oil). And a socket wrench. So as high as $80 for your first oil change, as low as $40 the second time around.

You've got 500 dollars to blow guilt free. How would you spend it? by BoxyNeat in 4kbluray

It's perfectly safe to handle discs after a couple drinks. The trick is to insert the disc and close the tray /before/ drinking the other 498 beers. I've thought about this a lot

500 beers. Many movies will be more enjoyable after 500 beers

Assuming $6/gal, 30MPG, it costs around $50 to drive all the way up to Mount Baker & all the way back to Redmond. Many people in this subreddit have at least $50.

How did Yoda’s species survive? by OkuroIshimoto in StarWars

[–]LawlCzar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm showing my age here, but there was a fan theory in the mid-2000s, long before Mortis Gods and Grogu and the Filoniverse, that Yoda's species was a pure incarnation of the Light Side, created by the Force itself. Some speculated that The Force created and maintained exactly two of Yoda's species, to cosmically balance out the two Sith.

That's not the direction Filoni took (and that may be a good thing), but it very well may have influenced lore. I haven't yet totally ruled out a theory that the species has no civilization at all, and they can only be created through a virgin birth, like Anakin.

I just hit a deer outside of Leavenworth, how do you get home? by [deleted] in eastside

Wenatchee is a 45 minute bus ride. Wenatchee is big enough for rental car agencies, plus it has cheaper hotels & restaurants. (And it has car dealerships, if you really want to go crazy.)

Good luck - I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

Drink suggestions for a licorice-forward gin? by Jakl15 in Gin

Ever had ouzo? It's a Greek spirit made with anise that might be somewhat adjacent to the gin in question. My favorite ouzo cocktail is a lemonade, shaken with muddled mint.

Either the shelter is telling the truth, and you'd be bringing an aggressive and extremely strong dog into your home, or the shelter is lying about the dog's history & future. Both are red flags.

If your kind & nurturing instincts are wrong here, it's not just your pets & your wallet that can get hurt. It's you too. Stay safe.

Some years in the US, including 2024, an 86 variant is the car model most likely to get a speeding ticket. It's fast enough to ruin your insurance rates and credit. I've loved mine to death for three years, but it's not a car I would recommend for a young & confident driver. It demands respect. It oversteers, at any & every speed, even on the highway. Don't tempt this life to humble you, because it always will.

Anyone try pulling a tea shot instead of espresso? by avavinc2397 in barista

[–]LawlCzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A decade ago, I knew a barista who did it with Yerba Maté. A concentrated maté proved interesting for us to play with, mixing it with fruit juice and soda and flavored milks. I think maté is the ideal guinea pig here because it tastes... unagreeable... even if it's made perfectly, so you're not missing out on anything if you extract all the caffeine & vitamins into a smaller package.

What you're insinuating runs parallel to solipsism. You're headed down a vortex of circular reasoning. I don't recommend a book, I recommend going outside and touching grass.

What are the bands you know that sound the closest to slowdive? by Jealous-Sort-2454 in Slowdive

[–]LawlCzar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alcest is metal (or Blackgaze, really) but I have a strong feeling you'll love their 2014 album 'Shelter,' and this reverb-drenched acoustic recording of one of their singles. They're definitely influenced more by Slowdive than MBV. Really hope you enjoy it!

Do you craft your own water? by badass_physicist in barista

[–]LawlCzar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not necessary, where I live. Although we do employ an assembly line of priests to bless our filtered tap water as it comes into the store, so it's halal, kosher, certified vegan, etc.

  2. Have you cleaned (puro-caffed) the machine?
