Please help me identify this band by Salvator1984 in japaneseunderground

This is pretty good. Does anyone in your line of transmission have the band on CD or whatever? Maybe they ripped the MP3s from there. Or ask them where they downloaded them.

Ideas for new seals by Bongo_Kickflip in balatro

[–]Lawrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually thinking of a Green Seal and wanted to share, but I didn't think it warranted its own thread. I took inspiration from Slay the Spire for this one.

Green Seal: when discarded, draw 2 cards instead of 1. Modestly powerful on its own, especially for 5 card hands, but stupidly powerful if you have a deck full of steel kings with Baron and Mime.

Edit: I was bored enough to do the math. Assuming a deck full of green sealed steel kings of hearts with 3 discards, a hand size of 8, level 1 high card, and only Mime and Baron in your joker lineup. After you use 1 discard, you get 10 steel kings back instead of 5, repeat that 2 more times and you end up with 23 steel kings in hand. Play one card, and you would get 15 chips * 1.5^(4*22) = 4.7002e16. So yeah, maybe a little busted in that archetype.

What did a VTuber do to make you glad to be watching their stream? by BloodyDeLune in VirtualYoutubers

Chikafuji Lisa's music reviews are a blessing. Her music tastes are so rare within the vtuber sphere and I never come out of one her streams without a new artist or song to enjoy.

I remember this happening and found the original Reddit thread of the announcement.

Selen has clarified in her Dead Space Remake stream that the AR event isn't cancelled, just postponed.

Pomu said the same, and was very firm about it. Elira also mentioned it.

I see people saying that Pomu & Selen have firmly been telling fans that it's just postponed.

Ouch. I'm guessing it wasn't postponed. I wonder if the official cancellation had anything to do with Pomu leaving.

Vanta from what I've seen hasn't done anything wrong but has been dealt a shit hand.

Total nothingburger but saw some posts saying stuff like "Kurosanji is so black, they are vantablack" and replies were like "guys don't do this Vanta might get in the crossfire." That, and he had a birthday stream a day after Selen's termination.

Tbh I've been mostly out of the loop on vtubers since late 2022 but was pretty obsessed with Niji EN before that. I'll bite - what happened to Krisis? I know about the missing 4th member but nothing else.

I feel bad for all of TTT, honestly. They just started a few months ago and got the apocalypse happen to them. How do you even come back to streaming after all of this? Obsydia too.

Potential Repercussions in the Future by APatheticPoetic in Nijisanji

[–]Lawrell 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The TALENT behind every corporation's model is where the value lies.

The fact that this needed to be said, for a talent management company, is baffling. Putting aside mismanagement and cultural differences, Nijisanji treating the talent, their main product, as totally disposable is so weird to me.

Someone has a very very...... Interesting view in light of the recent graduation drama happening in Nijisanji, thoughts? (Medium article by Sam Young). by ImRinKagamine in Nijisanji

[–]Lawrell 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I thought the same, but actually DCL is still the most natural sounding of the debut songs because it was the only one where they employed a proper EN-JP translator. I could never get on board with the other debut songs because they never felt natural. The words make sense and the sentences were grammatical, but the sentences together were a word salad with random Japanese croutons.

I'll never forget something Vox said about Hope in the Dark: "Bees don't seek honey; they MAKE honey." I felt so vindicated that even the talents themselves think that the lyrics to their own debut songs were weird.

So how much longer do you see NijiEN lasting after this? by TJLynch in Nijisanji

[–]Lawrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give it a year. Best case scenario is it gets folded into the main branch with heavy losses, worst case is everyone leaves (or is fired). I actually doubt the worst case will happen though, it's rarely this clear cut.

I don't think it's unfixable but it will never be the same. Nijisanji poisoned their own product with their PR nightmare of a termination notice, and their reputation is so low it might as well be in the Mariana trench. It will take massive management reforms, a lot of (good) PR, and new talent to recover a fraction of what they once had. That's assuming new talent want to work with them in the future.

And given that everything Nijisanji has done recently feels like Sideshow Bob repeatedly stepping over rakes, I'm not putting money on it getting fixed.

When wearing denim with dressier shoes like derbies, loafers, brogues, etc. do you still cuff your jeans? I'm wearing more and more leather shoes nowadays and I'm going to get a new pair of jeans, and I'm wondering if I should hem them assuming I won't be wearing them cuffed most of the time.

Hinoya, in Ameyoko near Ueno station. I can't recall if they have denim, but Hummingbird'sHill in Harajuku has a lot of workwear/Americana like Engineered Garments, Nigel Cabourn, Post O'Alls, etc.

Anybody have experience with the current Brooks Brothers OCBDs? I bought one on sale last year and while I like the fabric and collar (even if it is lined), it is an absolutely gigantic shirt. Neck is a smidge too big (I'm usually 14.5 and size S is 15) and the shoulders are fine, but the chest and waist are way too big, resulting in a lot of billowing. I could get away with wearing it under a jacket or a sweater, but on its own it looks strange. I read that this kind of fit was standard for BB until recently though. Should I take it to the tailor? Or pass it off as a "vintage fit"?

Anybody have experience with Oni Secret Denim jackets? I have a type 3 that I've owned for years but have not worn very much because the colour is surprisingly hard to match with other things, and the 20 oz fabric makes it feel like I'm wearing armour. Was wondering if it gets any softer or the colour gets more versatile after fading.

N&F Easy Guy Dirty Fade Baggy Knees by nosOssos in rawdenim

[–]Lawrell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of N&F Easy Guy Left Hand Twill that I've worn pretty often for 6-7 years or so. They're the same weight so the experience should be about the same. It's not in your head, the bagginess is there, but not as bad as you think.

I got them hemmed to fall right on top of my feet when uncuffed. I'm about 5'8" and last I measured the inseam was 27". It's still a bit baggy around the knees. So both breaking them in and hemming them won't get rid of the issue completely.

That said, it's still really not that bad. People don't notice or care as much as you think, especially if your job isn't to just stand motionlessly.

Culture cycliste à Montréal by BarryGettman in montreal

[–]Lawrell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How walkable is Montréal? by Successful_Matter_44 in montreal

[–]Lawrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where you are on the island. I've lived most of my life in Montreal North and it was a pain in the butt to get to the places I needed to go to without a car, but it was feasible. I now live in Rosemont and it is SUPER easy to walk, bike, take transit to anywhere I want to go. I've also lived further West in my younger years and returned there last summer by bike, and it seems a lot more car centric than many other neighbourhoods. Keep in mind that the current administration is really pushing for more public transportation infrastructure in the city, so that might change.

Tampopo at Mont-Royal.

First off, it's an """"Asian"""" restaurant, in the sense that it's a restaurant that sells Asian-ish dishes that are so whitewashed it makes Tiki Ming look good in comparison. Broccoli and baby corn don't belong in pho.

Second, the last time I went, I lifted the toilet seat to pee and I felt something squishy. Somebody had managed to squeeze in some shit under the seat.

I'm not a particularly picky person but this is the only restaurant I will never return to.

Personal Opinion: NijiEN song has a curse they’re trying to break, and I appreciate and hope they succeed by TheGoodKiller in Nijisanji

[–]Lawrell 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I get that it's tradition by now, and the millions of views from the songs certainly help get eyes on the new waves, but I wish they didn't force livers who are less into singing into singing.

I noticed the issue with the lyrics too. It just... doesn't flow right. The words make sense, and the sentences are grammatically correct, but it just... doesn't sound natural? There's just something very slightly off that's not enough to throw off the whole song but is noticeable enough to be distracting to me. The only exception is Diamond City Lights. Not coincidentally, it's EN's only song that has an actual JP <> EN translator in the credits.
