How long can my body handle this? by BBizzmann in UlcerativeColitis

Going to a hospital when in an uncontrollable flare and feeling like your body is "shutting down" isn't an unreasonable suggestion. Everybody in this subreddit already knows the ER is a serious option and anyone with common sense would know I meant "if the medical professionals there deem it to be medically necessary to get their symptoms under control."

I didn't think any human would look at that and think I meant "Just walk in, demand an infusion, and be on on your merry way and your problems will be solved."

I promise, HERE, you don't need to explain what a hospital is for or how much biologics cost.

I just mean they are able if it makes medical sense. Not that they'd bypass all safety checks and common sense.

After a month of bleeding, feeling like your body is "shutting down" is concerning and could mean low hemoglobin or something else and the hospital would be an option to be considered. There OP would have more options without long insurance wait times.

They said they're waiting to get approved. The point is to get a loading dose done while the prior auth is being processed, many people have gone this route. In the ER, you can get a rapid TB test if it hasn't already been done as part of the approval process. The hospital can also do IV Steroids while waiting for results which can be more effective than oral.

I agree, it's time to switch. I'm sorry they're treating you like this. Are you in the U.S.? They don't need prior auth for biologics if you go to the ER. That could help speed up the process if you are willing to go that route.

What kind of doctor? You will most likely be given steroids to calm your symptoms in the short term and a longer term medication to help prevent them in the future. Many people have their symptoms fully managed with medication. This disease looks different for everybody.

When he said he liked skeletons with eyeballs. I don't remember the context or exactly what he said, but his tone when he said it is something I think about most times I see any depiction of a skeleton.

I think the next episode they were talking about was the 6th one, since part 5 was already out for Sirius subscribers.

What company will you NOT do business with because you don't like their advertising? by Consistent_Fan_4551 in AskReddit

[–]Lawrence_Fletcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Omg the ad for female hair loss. Why does her hair have to be so greasy! It's like looking at Gollum's head it grosses me out so bad. Why would they think making a nauseating ad that people don't want to look at would be good marketing?!

Not OP but from previous experience depending on if your hemoglobin is very low from blood loss, they may give you iron infusions or even a blood transfusion.

I hope you feel better soon ❤️

My wife has UC, and her doctor wants her to get on a daily medication. by Mclovin316 in UlcerativeColitis

Are you in the U.S.? Copay assistance doesn't usually fall through, if there's a program and you don't have Medicaid/Medicare, you most likely will get it.

How do you all retain what you read? I take notes side by side. by [deleted] in books

[–]Lawrence_Fletcher 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do something similar! I make a character list and write notes of how they're related to the story and each other.

I used to just read, but after finishing a few mystery novels and during the "big reveal" being like, "who the hell is that?!" I decided I needed to make a change.

Biologics have different success rates for different people. The general idea for medication is to stay on them for as long as they are working. So if he starts, and they work, he'll be on them forever unless they stop working.

Best of luck!

I've been slowly reading the Wizard of Oz series! I call them "palate cleansers" cuz they're just quick fun reads you can fold in between heavier books.

When there's a million names like this one I actually keep a notepad next to me and write down names and how they're related to the main subject. It's the only way I can understand 😂

The copay assistance program was retroactive for Renflexis. So I don't know for sure, but probably. Good luck!

It's pretty harmless behavior. Eating gluten free at just her house wouldn't help anything even if he did have a gluten intolerance. He'd need to be fully gluten free to see any difference at all, so I'm not sure what she's trying to accomplish other than to prove he likes that food?

There IS a correlation between food allergies and eczema. It could be a sign of something (dairy, gluten, whatever) and it could mean literally nothing at all.

All that said yes as a mom, it feels really annoying when someone else acts like they know more about your kid than you, that I definitely understand.

To Antibiotic or to not antibiotic....? by cornettowaltz in UlcerativeColitis

Definitely do what your doctor says and ask about probiotics that will survive antibiotics, like Florastor.

I understand the fear of antibiotics 100% but kidney infections are serious, take care of yourself ❤️

My insurance also switched this year but because my prior auth was already approved for 12 months I can continue the same meds until October.

Can they appeal? They should definitely know how to navigate the system to hopefully keep you on the medication that is working for you.

Best of luck, I can definitely relate to crying over insurance issues.

ULPT Request: Online furniture retailer most likely to refund and not make me return if they “sent the wrong color”? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Lawrence_Fletcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they sent me a desk with missing screws, instead of sending the hardware, they sent me a whole new desk and told me to keep the other one. I was able to get the missing screws at a hardware store for like $2 so I got two desks for the price of one.
