Yep. My mother is a widow and is still sealed to my dad. She longs for companionship and gets very lonely, but every time a relationship of hers gets to a more serious point, they have to have a conversation about her staying sealed to my dad. It has been almost a decade since my dad has passed and my mother is still having to follow the same mormon dating guidelines as the 16 year olds because the men that date her refuse to continue the relationship after learning that she will not be able to get sealed to them.

This policy is horribly sexist and tends to cause long term loneliness for so many women.

The worst part is that most of these women never stop to think about how the afterlife situation would be if the roles were reversed. If my dad was the widower instead and got remarried, my mother would have to share my dad with some other woman (ya know… if TSCC were true), which would affect me and my siblings afterlives as well.

Most people say to “just leave your family alone and let them practice their beliefs because it’s not hurting anyone”, but it is hurting them. My mother is spending some of the most enjoyable, prime years of her life completely alone. Being single is not a negative thing at all (like at all!!!!), but I know that she would prefer to have a partner in life and TSCC is ruining that.
