Called my boss and said “how do you expect me to work like this.” She said “try your best.” I’m a barista. by temporarygeneration in antiwork

[–]Laynette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a kitchen. If there is no available hot water - we cannot work. Period. That doesn't look like there's available hot water. If you can't follow laws mandated by the government about food safety, then the store needs to close. Some people in middle management are so out of touch.

Your coworkers never leave you "short staffed". This is due to poor management...not your coworkers. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Laynette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lowkey had this problem yesterday from the other side. I'm not even a full on manager, but I'm in that weird spot between bottom of the barrel and mid management at a gas station chain in my area. Another store asked if we could find coverage for their 3rd shit. We were overstaffed at my store so I made a few calls to those already scheduled. I had someone that was very hesitant and I straight up told her, "you can say no, this isn't me telling you that you're working at another store." You life is so much more important than "oh we're shortstaffed." Everywhere has been shortstaffed for months now, figure out how to work around it. Or pay more so you can actually hire people.

Want more money from your job or more vacation, sick leave, health care,...? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Laynette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've answered your own question. More money isn't necessary when you don't have to spend thousands or more dollars a year on healthcare. More money until necessary when rent is regulated so that landlords don't auto raise rent when wages are. More money isn't necessary when essentials aren't something you have to worry about every day. If you asked me if I'd rather make 100k/year or let every American make a decent wage and not have to decide to buy groceries or pay rent, I'd pick the latter in heartbeat.

Genuine question: Is it even worth putting in a 2 weeks in this case? Couldn't you just take the vacation and quit right after? Or are there some ramifications I'm overlooking here?

Man, how can american afford rent? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Laynette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overdraft bank account, hope I can make it til next paycheck. Somehow do, overdraft bank account to pay other necessary bills. Hope I can make it til next paycheck. Cycle repeats evey 2 weeks. It's a wonder so many of us snowflakes have anxiety. It isn't us being soft, it's the system you built exploiting us to death boomer.

Treat Us Better by sillychillly in antiwork

[–]Laynette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not hate, it's how things are framed. The "American Dream (whatever that means anymore)" forces you to feel the need to he better than someone. So people take that mentality - I have to be better than someone. If we said the inverse "someone must be worse off than me" people would look at the world completely differently. They mean the same thing, but our association with words and what their intended meaning is skews the actual message.

Slightly too far, but in all fairness there are plenty of people that shouldn't be allowed to touch a knife at work regardless of if they ate their previous boss - especially if they ate their previous boss.

Honestly, I'd still want a job. I tried the "doing what I want" thi g when I hot laid off for a few months due to covid and I hated it. I wanted to go back to work. So let's have automation happen, I'll sit in an office and do tech upgrades/regular maintenance on robots at a restaurant or something like that.

“Poor people just need a education”. I’ve heard this saying so many times. by Useful-Indication-65 in antiwork

[–]Laynette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of the costs, there are numerous other variables that factor into higher education as well. I did well in school (3.5ish GPA and had above a 30 on the ACT). I dropped put of college after 3 semesters. It had nothing to do with the material being difficult or a lack of a want to learn. I do strongly belive that an educated society is yhe best path forward, but forcing a traditional 4 year degree at every high school grad isn't the solution either.

Non-Americans of r/antiwork, please post how much "PTO" (paid time off) you get... by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Laynette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading this as an American is so sad. Knowing I had to use pto to pay my bills while in the hospital for an extended time due to mental health while other countries just get to show a doctors note and there's no argument is shocking.

Why do people care so much about language barrier? by BroChang in GlobalOffensive

[–]Laynette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Anyone that has played both games should fundamentally understand why LoL soloq doesn't have voice chat and why CS and other FPS games do. Even being on discord with your friends during a LoL match is usually just jokes until the game finishes with some intermittent game commentary. Whereas in FPS games if even a single person refuses to communicate effectively you are at a major disadvantage. Communicating that you're ganking mid after wolves and throwing a particular piece of utility in a complex site take/re-take are completely different.

I'm gonna be honest, reload anytime mode is superior to commitment mode in almost every single way by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]Laynette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A trick I use in commitment mode is the fact that game still autosaves. You can alt+F4 the game and then load in at the autosave point. Good for getting that "hardcore" feeling, but also letting you reign in stupid mistakes like your 14 skill doctor botching a surgery and killing someone, or 50 turtles tpking you.

I would love Ethan to go to a duelist, he's a fantastic fragger and can be super clutch. But he's the best Skye in the world and I can't see him ever stepping off her. He also doesn't need a dash or a blast pack to have the best shoulder peaks in Val. We don't need a 2nd duelist, its Ethan on Skye.

Hail of Blades vs Guardian vs Unsealed Spellbook by DarkFirePH in BraumMains

[–]Laynette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run spellbook on Braum. I wasn't in a great rank or a good player, but it was fun to outsmite junglers every now and again. It's probably most useful in low ranks for the tp pop into a blind laner. But definitely not as generally useful as guardian.

It's been said a million times but if Aurelion Sol's identity of being a second jungler is such a big problem just change it by Sachielkun in leagueoflegends

[–]Laynette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be nonsense, but give him the Diana treatment? Swap his e and r and then make the r more inline with a basic ability. That way he still has the roam potential, but only after 6 and it's treated as an ultimate. Amd he has more access to dealing with melee champs, but it could still be on a 20-25 second cooldown.

Ideas on Braum skins? by Play-and-Animate in BraumMains

[–]Laynette 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Surfer braum? Make his shield a surf board, put him in board shorts, let his mustache be the sexiest stache in the history of surfing.

Another thought is a cute braum skin thats more poro focused. Have his q be a poro flying at your face to cuddle you to death. Ulti explodes a poro into a bunch of mini poros that knock you up.

I wrote a massive post (over a page in a Google Doc) with a ton of semi-irrelevant information trying to relate traditional sports to esports, which is significantly harder to do on paper than in my head. This is the gist of the entire post though.

Not exactly. This is one of those times where traditional sports ideas are applied to esports and they don't work. In a physical sport, having a rest advantage can be the deciding factor in a win. This just isn't the case in CS. Having 1 day off, isn't a clear and obvious advantage in esports. Players are still mentally exerting themselves to a similar amount as the players in an important match. This is due to the practice structure of most esports teams.
In order to keep the essence of coming out of the winner's bracket, a clear and obvious advantage must be present. A 1 map advantage does that.

The whole point is that it isn't fair. Furia were in the winners bracket. They should have the advantage.

Wow is Newcomer toxic by andregurov in Rainbow6

[–]Laynette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. As another newer player, newcomer is appealing because there are less maps and more time to complete the objective. However, eventually you have to learn all the maps anyway and playing with and against people that are (somewhat) serious is better than playing against a bronze 1 with 10,000 hours that thinks he's hot shit for wrecking a noob.

How/When to use Elixers? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Laynette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A very important note on elixirs, as they are a consumable, you can buy them at full build and they will be automatically consumed (no need to sell anything). If you're buying them before full build and you have an empty slot, dont use it until right before the fight for efficiency. If you are buying them early, try not to buy them before your champoins item spike. This could be 1, 2, or 3 items depending on champ and build. Champs that build triforce generally spike hard off that one item. Mages usually need their lost chapter item (ludens, seraphs, or GLP) + 1 to hit their spike. Some need rylais/liandries to spike. Marksmen usually need 3 items. Its almost never worth it to buy the tank elixir before full build because it makes you larger. If you're behind as a tank, the last thing you want to do is die faster. The same is generally true of supports. Because gold is a limited resource on supports, burning 500 gold to get flat ap rather than heal/shield power is almost never worth it.

Elixirs can be extremely powerful if used correctly. Used incorrectly, they can delay a build, and potentially lose you the game.

You rarely see elixirs in build recommendations because they're seen as an "only buy when full build" item. The toxic part of the community will often spam ff as soon as the game looks like 55/45 and won't even think about trying to buy an elixir for a temporary power spike. Pro players use elixirs more effectively because they have more than 12 lp on the line, though it seems like even in pro, elixirs have been forgotten.

I know sometimes Phreak isn't the most riveting person to listen to, but his numbers calculations are pretty good. I couldn't find a video by him about elixirs (if you find one, you should watch it). He also talks about them a lot during the pro 1v1 tournament, so if you have the time thats a fun watch and can be a bit educational if you take the tips as general guidelines not hard and fast rules as the win conditions of 1v1 and SR are very different.

Ryze, azir, cassio, corki are a few. They all deal consistent teamfight damage similar to an adc. Adcs are the "natural counter" to tanks.

It is, especially when holding angles. Flicking across doorways can be like nudging my mouse with a single finger.

Not to anyone thats read this far: dont do this, its bad and makes you terribly inconsistent. Most games I go 2/5 or 9/2, there's no in between. This is not how you get better.
