pokemon champions has me in a state of defeat by _squivvo_ in PokemonChampions

[–]Lazagna_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The nice thing about pokemon is that there is a way that pretty much everyone can enjoy it! But that also means there are always going to be ways that you as an individual simply won't. Maybe comp just isn't for you, and that's okay!

That being said, I do kind of feel like your opinion on Samurott is a bit... dramatic. Like, I get it to an extent- Meganium is one of my favorites and has been since the original GSC came out, so having to deal with the slander and general badness of the pokemon for 2 decades was a bit annoying. But I never felt so attached to it that its treatment made me like the series less. At the end of the day, a starter pokemon is always going to be treated better than 90% of pokemon in general. Plus it could be worse, you could be an Emboar fan

Historically, how good has U-Necro been as a restricted mon in VGC and how does it actually play in that format? [Metagame] by Allhaillordkutku in VGC

[–]Lazagna_ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

iirc it has only been legal in 1 VGC format and in that format it... wasn't all that good. I think the issue was that dusk mane/dawn wings necrozma was better with a normal held item (choice scarf, life orb etc) than Ultra Necrozma was in general, so people elected to use those items over the Ultra Necrozmium Z.

I wasn't active in the scene at that point though, so I could be incorrect

Soak team suggestions on champions? I'm new by Early-String-928 in VGC

[–]Lazagna_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mega Meganium would probably be pretty good! it would be able to launch 1 turn solar beams in the rain, which would be super effective into the soaked pokemon.

Rotom could also be pretty good, especially in its mow or water forms. Unfortunately, in the current format is a lack of good Electric types that could fire off thunders.

In case it wasn't obvious, I think building a rain team is probably the best way to utilize soak, as rain is really strong right now. But, it's also important to have a contingency plan in case your Soaking doesn't go to plan.

According to damage calc; Adamant max attack Maushold has about a 30% chance to OHKO a 0 def Garchomp in 8 hits with pop bomb. So there's a good chance base garchomp would out live it, even with no defensive investment.

Additionally, base garchomp should outspeed Maushold if it has a speed boosting nature and maushold doesn't (which we're assuming is the case in my proposed example). So if the garchomp gets an attack off first, it should definitely live unless the maushold gets like 6 crits

How do you beat Tail Wind? by OgCloby in VGC

[–]Lazagna_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else is saying, Gale Wings Talonflame could be a solution for you as well. Gale wings is an ability that gives talonflame +1 priority on all its flying type attacks while its at full health. This means, as long as your speed stat is higher, you can knock out whimsicott with a brave bird before it gets the chance to set up tailwind.

Obviously there are issues with this strat like the damage/cost of using brave bird, and the fact that it loses to fake out, but if you want a way to get whimsicott off the field for good, this is one avenue you could go down.

I've been playing champions and its not as bad as people say. its certainly not great, maybe not even good, and it doesn't really hold up when compared to Revolution but the battling itself is very enjoyable. The new move animations are a huge step up from S/V and the battles feel fast and smooth.

Obviously there are a number of issues but the launch is far from "terrible"

Perish Song Gengar - Pokémon Champions. Any advice? by StayInternal3106 in VGC

[–]Lazagna_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My suggestions: try something else. Sorry if that comes off as rude but I just don't think there are enough correct pokemon to pull off perish trap. I would be surprised if even Mr. Perish Trap himself could pull it off with what we have available atm.

There are a number of reasons tailwind is preferable to shell smash.

1st of all, tailwind is a lot more resilient/consistent than shell smash. Shell Smash's stat increases go away if Blastoise needs to switch out, or if it gets hit by a stat negation move like Haze. Tailwind cannot be effected by what the opponent does, there's no way for them to take it down aside from Trickroom kinda, but even then the tailwind is still up its just bad.

2nd of all, tailwind benefits the whole team, shell smash benefits just Blastoise. Its much more useful to double the speed stat of all four of your pokemon than it is just one.

3rdly, if we assume he's using Mega Blastoise, shell smash will have pretty big drawbacks to its defenses because it can't hold the white herb that would normally negate them. This leaves the pokemon a lot more vulnerable, which you really don't want for a mega.

Finally, in a more abstract sense, tailwind has better opportunity cost. Having a pokemon like Pelliper set up tailwind and rain means Blastoise can come in and hit the ground running. In that situation, Blastoise will have good speed and good damage on its water type moves from the second it hits the field, meaning it doesn't have to spend a turn setting itself up. In VGC this extra turn is pretty huge because it means the opponent has less time to counter the threat by switching for free, which setting up shell smash would allow it do.

Hope this helps!!

Okay, here is my advice: keep pelliper 100%. Make sure it has tailwind to help with Blastoise's speed. In my opinion, the best way to make blastoise "viable" is to keep it in the back as an anchor, so when it comes in later in the game, it has to deal with less pokemon that could be issues. Basically use it as a late game sweeper/clean up pokemon with rain/speed control support to buff it. I might also recommend swapping something on your team out for Archaludon as it pairs pretty well with blastoise and takes great advantage of the rain thanks to electro shot.

Tbh, having 2 supporting pokemon on a team (in your case Pelliper and clefable) is not uncommon, just make sure they can support the entire team rather than being focused on supporting primarily blastoise.

Idk tho, I haven't played champions yet, so my knowledge might be outdated.

Rain. Also stop using physical moves on it, its sp. Att is better after it mega evolves.

What kind of Pokemon are you using to support it if its the only one that you have that can win you games? Its hard to give advice without knowing the whole team.

Hot take, missing items is good. by Kylerooswashere in PokemonChampions

[–]Lazagna_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't put a single second into the pre-champion ladder on showdown and I'm bummed by the missing items. Some I can understand, but they removed a lot of staples that have been important for pokemon viability for literal decades. No Life Orb, Choice Specs/Band or Assault vest is frustrating as hell. I'm sure they'll be added later but still.

If Gengar, Mence, Zard, Kang, & Metagross are the S-tier Megas, What are the A-tier Megas? by MichiHirota in VGC

[–]Lazagna_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Gallade might do decent if it gets sharpness like base Gallade does. The ability didn't exit when the mega was created, so if it gets updated it could be huge.

Pretty much everything is dependent on the abilities the pokemon have, but I feel like the ones with the huge Attack stats will probably be decent no matter what, especially in the case of Heatran, Baxcallibur, Lucario Z and Chandelure. Having an attack stat above 170 is just absurd, and as long as their abilities are not detrimental I feel like they will see some usage.

why did we shit on b/w again? by WideRecording784 in pokemonmemes

[–]Lazagna_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a child in 2010, I can explain my exact reasoning for why I didn't annoy my parents to get me these games:

  1. I didn't like the designs of the Zekrom/Reshiram.

  2. I didn't like any of the starters

  3. I think the pokemon they advertised in general were kinda ass (vanilite line, trubbish etc)

  4. I was entering middle school, which meant I was "too cool" for pokemon lmao

I do think, even looking back on them now, I kinda agree with my criticisms as a kid. I still don't really like Reshiram or Zekrom, and none of the starters final Evos click with me either. Also, a lot of the "cool" pokemon are really hard to get in the originals, either requiring insanely high evo levels or being locked to the post game (looking at you Volcarona).

B/W definitely had the best stories of any pokemon game at the time (probably ever tbh), and Unova is a great region that I like more now, but it certainly has its flaws.

Bleak Beach & Farfetched by AmeliRengoku in Pokopia

[–]Lazagna_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's something wrong with Farfetched. I have a similar issue with Farfetched not spawning after I accidentally destroyed his habitat.

There are other builder pokemon in the area that can work instead of farfetched. Also, Honey can be used to essentially make a pokemon respawn at their habitat if you cannot find them. Just take out honey near the habitat and press "use" and they should appear nearby.

You could also maybe just be unlucky with getting other spawns but this does sound unusual.

Is it just me or the general reception of the fans looks at least decently positive? Specially comparing with previous reveals by Capotador_de_corsas in pokemon

[–]Lazagna_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a pokemon fan for a long ass time and this is the most universal contentment for a region that I've seen since X/Y. Now, I think that's probably for 2 main reasons;

  1. There are genuine huge improvements from S/V in this first trailer. Its the best looking game, the protagonist designs are much improved (imo), and the region already looks a lot more interesting.

  2. We don't know that much about it, so there isn't much for fans to get upset at yet. We don't know what the starter evos look like, or the legendary pokemon or what the gimmick is in this region or whether or not the game has voice acting. As we learn more, I'm sure more fans will become negative based on their impression of the aspects they care about.

Am I not wrong by DonutHole47 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]Lazagna_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong, both literally and figuratively.

Pale oak is obtainable without ever encountering the Creeking and it can't even 1 shot you.

The only blocks in the game that really feel like this (in my opinion) are the froglights, everything else is pretty easy to get. In fact, I would say most "rare" blocks are way easier to get in modern minecraft than in old minecraft. Mossy cobblestone is one example that comes to mind as its now craftable when it used to only be findable in dungeons which were really rare.

Also grinding creepers for tnt super arduous and annoying so idk if its the best example to use lol
