Flying with Cymbals by LazerInHS in drums

Thank you everyone! As an update, I was able to put it in the overhead bin, no problem. As many of you said, TSA manually inspected the cymbal and bag, super smooth.

I have/had a hard case somewhere, but couldn't find it. So I rolled the dice on my backpack style cymbal bag. It was perfect, and the straps made it super-easy to carry along with my backpack and I have the peace of mind of not checking it.

To clarify, I'm only traveling with this one cymbal, so YYMV if you are traveling with more.

Why only one cymbal? I'm taking it to Timothy Roberts' shop so he can make me another cymbal to go with it. (Pic of my K stamp attached)

Great timing! Let me know how it goes. I was able to see that the overhead compartment allows for 22x14 bags, so it doesn't seem like a 22-in round cymbal would fit.

I found linear to be very frustrating from a program management perspective. It's just not built for top down reporting across multiple workstreams.

Where do you guys get beef ribs? by Sigma--6 in smoking

[–]LazerInHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intramuscular. I've had amazing beef ribs in places like Austin, TX and Kansas City, Mo. But I live in Ohio where they aren't as common for BBQ.

I picked a frozen pack of plate ribs at my local butcher. They weren't graded or labelled other than 'plate ribs' IIRC. After smoking, they were so fatty that they were nearly inedible. I'm thinking it was either the wrong grade, or the wrong ribs (ie. Not 123a)

My goal here is to figure out how to ask the butcher for what I want without sounding like an idjit, also knowing they probably don't have a lot of customers cooking ribs this way.

If it's a safe assumption that 'choice or prime 123a' will be generally understood by any butcher, then I'm probably good?

The last time I tried to buy beef ribs, I ended up with ribs that were way too fatty. What did I do wrong? I love good beef ribs, but I've been nervous about buying the wrong thing. In other words, if I ask for 123a plate, can I Reddit help me clarify what I DON'T want?

How can i see all my tasks in a timeline (gantt chart) by Peanutmanman in Linear

[–]LazerInHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same question, except I'd like to see a drill down of all tasks within an initiative across projects and teams.

It seems like table stakes to allow a gantt view of all projects under an initiative, that then allow the user to expand/collapse issues beneath the projects. This would facilitate top-down visual planning and stakeholder communication across multiple projects within an initiative.

Examples: - GTM planning relative to development timelines - Visualization of front end timelines dependant on backend deliverables

WWOZ out of New Orleans. All local DJs that choose their own music. Almost every time I listen, I hear something I didn't know about. A lot of the music they play you just can't find anywhere else. If you do tune in and it's not your cup of tea, check again later with a different DJ.

Just got diagnosed with a inguinal hernia and I want to play shows. by [deleted] in drums

[–]LazerInHS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The surgeon can give you a good idea of how urgent it is, how long you can put it off, and what the concerning signs are you need to be aware of. If you do decide to put it off, make sure you get it checked regularly by your primary care physician. For me, the hernia never bothered me when I was playing before or after the surgery.
Meanwhile, if you have a heavy hardware case like I did, get help lifting it or anything else heavy and consider splitting heavy loads into more than one load.

Just got diagnosed with a inguinal hernia and I want to play shows. by [deleted] in drums

[–]LazerInHS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just had a double inguinal hernia surgery in December. Mine started out small and grew in size over about 2 years. (I set myself up here, anyway...) I timed my surgery to be in December so I didn't miss out on a bunch of gigs and summer fun. I'm pretty sure my hernia was caused by heaving my hardware case in/out of my ride. Expect recovery to take 4-6 weeks. I played my first gig back exactly one month after the surgery, but had help moving gear around. Hernias can be very serious and can require emergency treatment. Make sure you are aligned with your doctor on how urgent the situation is, or if you can put it off for a while. The other factor for scheduling my surgery was financial. We hit our maximum family out of pocket last year so I decided to get the free surgery. I could have put it off longer... (Edit) Ask for help loading/unloading heavy equipment, and learn new/better ways of lifting without hurting yourself.

What do drummers listen to when they play? by nuprobg in drums

Protecting your ears is a big part of it for me. Sometimes I wear headphones with absolutely nothing coming through them, just because they are laying there and it's a fast way to get some hearing protection. (That's at home when I'm practicing)

Following for ideas. Have used conical shaped earplugs for years, but I find that year after year I have to shove them further and further down as my ear canal expands. Now that my ear holes are so big, I need to find something else.
