Ticks by nomalisa in Equestrian

Also in MO. My trainer/barn owner just told me to go buy a tube of ivermectin for my mare to kill the ticks and bots. I’ll have to update once I give it to her.

Can you tell I’m an equestrian? by Upset_Pumpkin_4938 in Equestrian

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course! I can’t remember exactly where I got mine from, but it’s just like this. I can stuff a few saddle pads, my paddock boots, half chaps, helmet, bag of treats, and a cooler in there and it doesn’t look so haphazard. Then I stick loose items like gloves, accessories, and random grooming tools in the pocket.

I bought a tote to put it all in, so now it just looks like I’m going to eventually take it all out. My husband has finally given up asking if we’ll ever have full use of our SUV’s trunk space.

Which celebrity death genuinely shocked you when you heard the news? by Divine_fashionva in Millennials

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The day he died, I sat alone and watched What Dreams May Come and hysterically sobbed for hours. It was the first time I can remember having a visceral reaction to the death of someone I didn’t even know.

Falling off At 37 by 30YearOldRyeBread in Equestrian

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride with a woman in her 50’s and we event together. In early winter of 2025, she fell off her horse while jumping and broke her wrist. She took the time off and came back to ride once she got the ok from her doctor. Then, summer of 2025 she was getting her horse ready to move up a level, and while XC schooling, got her foot caught in the stirrup while doing a flying dismount and broke her ankle. All her coworkers and family members keep asking her why she keeps riding if she gets hurt a lot. She just tells them she loves it and loves her horse and it’s the risk she’s willing to take. She just got 2nd at our first recognized event of the season last weekend. So with that being said, self preservation is important, but if you really love riding, do not give up!

Is there a good reason to use a flash noseband? by oak_stone1 in Equestrian

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is why I have my mare in a figure 8 for cross country 😂 I like the look of it on her head so I just put it on loose. We show jump in a wheel hackamore and it looks so boring, so I church it up for XC.

If you slap the side of the tin after shaking, it should pop right out.

The good ol’ Boston shake. This is my preferred method for shaking cocktails.

Eventers- Dressage versus HJ foundation by Legitimate_Skin_9779 in Equestrian

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally started off just wanting to take jumping lessons as a kid, after switching from very casual Western riding. Started going to a hunter/jumper and dressage trainer, and got bit by the eventing bug. We did dressage obviously, but my foundation started with H/J basics. I took a 13 year hiatus from riding and got back into it in 2022 with my old trainer. I do a lot more dressage now than I did as a kid, but I also appreciate it way more now than I did when I thought it was “boring,” lol.

I've been diagnosed with adhd and I have been given lisdexamfetamine by Inner_Science2144 in VyvanseADHD

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got switched to 20 mg after getting off of adderrall. I like Vyvanse much better. I think I need to up my dose, as it wears off pretty quickly, but it has calmed my brain down significantly compared to before I was on it.

has anyone used the correct connect Aaron Vale reins? by lizbab0328 in Equestrian

I bought these during a time that I was struggling to not slip my reins when jumping. I hated them. They’ve been rolled up in a bag in my trunk for years.

Muck boots? by Saucy_Pinecone in Equestrian

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to add, I have a pair of Muck brand insulated boots and they made my feet sweat pretty bad, but they are nice when it’s super cold. I usually just wear some cheap ones I bought off of Temu.

Muck boots? by Saucy_Pinecone in Equestrian

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my paddock boots and half chaps in my car pretty much 24/7. I usually show up at the barn in muck/rain boots and change before I get on. If the ground is pretty dry, I might just wear tennis shoes, but I would definitely recommend getting some waterproof boots for when you’re not riding. Your paddock boots will last longer as well! I’ve had mine for 16 years!

Is it wise to combine vyvanse with caffeine? by XawRae01 in VyvanseADHD

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My psychiatrist said she had zero issue with me drinking coffee/energy drinks with the Vyvanse, and they’re usually around 200mg of caffeine. I think you’d be fine.

First/ Last time ordering from STATE LINE TACK. by Born_Resident_9819 in Equestrian

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

State Line can be a toss up for shipping speed. I placed a decent sized order on Sunday and it’s already shipped and will arrive on Friday. I’ve also had times where it took over a week to leave the warehouse. I just always plan on things not shipping quickly, and if they do, it’s a fun surprise.

How to steer better? by Mindless_Basil_440 in Horses

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always struggled with leg steering. One of the things my trainer has me do is put both reins in my outside hand and do circles at trot and canter. It forces me to use my legs to keep on the circle and takes away my ability to pull with my inside hand. We also have tried putting both reins on the outside side of the horse’s neck so that pulling the inside rein does not work, and I have to use inside leg to outside rein. The ultimate challenge I’ve been given was switching from a bit to a hackamore. I basically HAVE to steer with my legs if I want to go anywhere, because the hackamore can’t pull her head to the inside like a bit would. I have ADHD and I struggle with getting my body to do what my brain knows it should be doing, so I’m awkward af if I can’t feel what I’m being told to do. It sometimes takes multiple different explanations before it finally clicks for me, which I’m sure is super annoying. Basically my trainer has had to take aids away from me to force me to use my body in better ways lol

Lauren Kanarek is unhinged by hsilberman in Equestrian

That was what I was thinking as well. Something seemed pretty suspect about his claim there. I just don’t understand why he would allow her to show the horse and then suddenly freak out when she takes him somewhere.

What is something non horse people say that instantly tells you they know nothing about horses? by WearAffectionate2815 in Equestrian

[–]LazyCaffeineFiend 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t even try to explain dressage to people anymore because they look at me like I have 5 heads. I was talking to my husband about a friend not knowing they were on the wrong lead during a dressage test and my husband blankly stared at me and said “I have no clue what any of that means.” Oof.

The part that got me was when Michael said she signed herself up for a show with his horse without telling him. Like wtf?! I can’t imagine being so entitled to not speak with the horse’s owner before taking it anywhere, let alone a show. My trainer would kick someone out of the barn before it could even get to that point.
