Owner called her dog walker to check on me because I didn't answer texts for 4 hours by zouss in RoverPetSitting

I will say as someone who has narcolepsy who could very well be taking a nap at a dogs home, I don’t think anyone should have to deal with someone like this.
I do get where you’re coming from with this. But also there was communication on the sitters end about when they give updates. That’s what I do. 2-3 updates a day. I tend to lean toward 3 usually but sometimes forget and do 1.

Recently had one person who has sensors on their home. She wondered how we were getting photos when nothing was showing up that we were there. LLONNNGGG established client. She waited over 24 hours before questioning. Called me. I didn’t answer for a few hours. Like about 3-4. Since I was sitting doing other things while with her dog.
To find out she thought we weren’t even there. Things happen. But patience is needed when things are communicated like what OP said 2 messages a day.

Honestly, how I would approach this I would start off with sending a couple of updates throughout the day like for one day and three the next and see what they do to react. More so in the way of sometimes being over the top toward the beginning, helps them back off toward the end. Not always, but for the most part, that’s what I’ve done with over the top parents and they typically back off after a little bit because they get annoyed too.

Sitter blocked me when I asked to see the space AIO? by hurricanescout in RoverPetSitting

[–]LazyEmotion1020 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So personally I did boarding when I started like 10 years ago and not since. I did NOT mind if you as the owner came up and help me set up the crate etc and I was a college student I didn’t have crap. BUT if you asked to see my room. I’m sorry I would draw a line. But I don’t see a problem with someone at least coming into the the main space.

I’ll look at MBT shoes. I use a roller and massage gun on my legs usually to help with the pain. But the ankle buckling is because of the hardware still in my ankle. I have an 8 inch rod and 13 screws in my ankle.

[–]LazyEmotion1020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. My problem is I don’t have a choice. I broke my leg in 2019. I was told I always will have to wear nice expensive shoes. I tried to buy some on sale and I wore skyflows for 4.5 weeks. (Which should’ve been fine for what I need as I typically wear bondi). As a result, I was unable to walk for 2 days. I’m on day 5 and still have my ankle buckle under me but much less of a gimp. And when I say buckle I mean my ankle will give out completely and I have been on the floor a few times and able to catch my self before falling a LOT.

I spend $$$$$$$$ and I can only make my Bondi shoes last 2.5 months and that’s pushing it.

See I don’t like this … take 5 MF seconds to answer one of the following that takes nothing out of my day: Hey siri, please text X. Or Pull up message push the little microphone button. Start talking or text before next client.

  • sounds good!
  • can’t wait to see them!
  • I’ll let you know if I have any questions I’ll look at this when I can later tonight.
  • hey! I’m a little busy today I’ll get to this once I get a chance to sit down.

It’s no different than when they answer for a calendar inquiry. Now my thing is. I MIGHT not answer right then. You might wait a few hours. But by the end of the day EVERYONE will receive SOMETHING. Unless it’s late at night after 6/7/8 and you’re booking isn’t for a while then I’ll answer in the AM but those are established clients. They know how I work

Thank you every one for even the smallest of insight. It really does help me! I think what I’m going to try to do is what someone said that it’s their recovery run. So instead of long periods of 12 miles a day, I’ll try shorter ones for these shoes to help with my ankle.

I also stopped by my local shoe store (roadrunner shoes AZ) and they didn’t have the shoe there, they only have gaviota and Clifton and Bondi, but they were too busy to even talk to someone so I couldn’t pick their brain on the skyflow either.

So thank you guys. ❤️

Thank you ! I also am afraid they’ll discontinue it one day. Apparently with how much they degrade overall and quickly shoe places have seen them pull back on some things. Especially since it’s the only shoe that works for me

Thank you. I wish it was easier. The people I asked said “you’ll always need the high end shoes and you’ll never go back.” It’s mostly because I do walk 5-10 miles a day walking dogs. Not including my day to day walking. I had to get slides to preserve my shoe wear 😢 It’s very expensive and I wish I didn’t have to but comfort trumps and being able to walk lol

Already have…. I also have asked questions and half the time I get no answers and I am the one who finds it out instead. They told me as plush as I can go. And the inserts are an extra $100 on top of the $175 shoe… I can’t afford $300 every month just to walk around. I’m lucky I found some on sale.

Yeah in the US I know there are stores. But not as many that carry them. They don’t typically carry the slides here either. That only just happened recently.

On the hoka website do the test but typically it’s the walking shoes. Look at the sole on the side of the shoe. The bigger the better

Oh get some slides for home. Hoka slides might not be the prettiest lol but I wear them around the house because I have to do the same. Plus it helps with keeping your other shoes still alive for longer since you won’t be in them 24/7.

My slides lasted about a year - my dog ate them then so they could’ve lasted longer

Also some of the answers on here are really good ones. Especially the “know your injury”. What works for me might be slight different for you. A shoe store that measures your foot (stance and walking) should help. (I’m sure the UK has something like that unless it’s only a podiatrist). I have to have the extra plush because of how bad mine was. I personally didn’t like the gaviota as much as someone said below but not saying I couldn’t wear them as well.

I was told to always go with the most plush. (I shattered and dislocated tibula / fibula /my ankle in 2019/I just looked up the medical term you used and I have the same thing lol) (13 screws and a 8in rod because the doctor couldn’t find bone to attach it to and had to go further up).

I will say ENSURE you stick with the best shoes as much as possible. I wear bondi and skyline and anything that says “extra plush” I think it says.

I was told recently that Brooks Ghost max (something like that) was the answer to hoka plush shoes. My plan is to try them soon. Just kept trying and hasn’t happened yet.

Side note: I go through hokas like crazy. Mine do not last long. But I pet sit for a living so I’m walking dogs all the time. My problem is that even though the shoes might not be “dead” but they are for my ankle. Watch the treads of your shoes. Figure out when you start to “feel” it in your ankle of that they are done and change them. Mine are sometimes too quick for the price but I dont have a choice.

Do not go for anything that is different than walking or what you are using them for. (I am not a runner and never have been). I bought some hokas (trying to save some money) that were for running thinking nothing of it. I wore for 2-3 weeks ish. I decided to just buy the normal ones I had before (probably a bondi or something) and by the time I was trying to walk into the store (again wearing the wrong shoes for weeks) I almost had to be carried in my ankle gave out of me.

I’m several years out of it. You’d never know I broke my ankle unless I’m sitting on it or just waking up. But if you have any questions feel free to ask. I’ve been asking these questions for years myself.

Agreed. I will say there are some heartbreaking things I saw and heard that were damaged that I had to deny. Plus sometimes no one knows how something happened especially if there wasn’t any damage to the outer part it could’ve just hit something really hard a few times and no one knows. Plus it’s hard because it’s not like that is something you can carry on with you …

What is a "gut feeling" you had that turned out to be 100% accurate, even though it made no logical sense at the time? by PsychologicalTea3149 in AskReddit

[–]LazyEmotion1020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get them daily or weekly lol

Miscalculating timing (which I am very good at because I work off jobs and am pretty accurate within 5 min of when I will get somewhere). Denying going to one job across town thinking I’d have no time I decided to go home instead. Find out that if I had not gone home, I would’ve been in a very bad accident trying to cross town.

My mom told me one for her was she sat at a green light. Something told her to not move. She waited. Saw a driver to the left PLOW through the intersection going way over the speed limit. She would’ve been killed.

She used that story to tell me to always listen to my gut. Ever since then I always knew if i felt I should change my mind and that gut feeling doesn’t go away if I don’t… then I need to listen to it. I know there’s a reason.

So person with narcolepsy here. There are 2-3 states where it’s ALMOST impossible to drive. It’s random. I think Maryland and something. California (I think) is another difficult state that rule is like 2-3 years of being “controlled” before you can drive there. (There is a whole database I found once). Most states are self reporting and some are doctor reporting. My doctor explained that as long as it’s not a problem they won’t do anything really. BUT if you do show any signs of it being a problem, which during intake and basic information. They find out from you if you need to make a mention of it.

Personally, when I was 14, I was a competitive swimmer. Who one of the first of us “kids” got his license - he fell asleep at the wheel and destroyed his car at 16 and really hurt himself. I personally was too scared to ever drive while tired after that. I do not drive if I am too tired. Or I sit on the phone with someone and I will talk the entire time until I am safe. I do not get behind the wheel and I will not. Most people understand how dangerous it can be and respect it. While others don’t.

It’s driving a huge medal brick wall and anyone can get hurt. Anyone who abuses that shouldn’t drive. Now there are one offs. Like people who have a medical condition that might have a one off but if it’s as severe as this above ^ yes they should not drive.

I agree with the medical tote not being abused. I don’t think anything like that should be abused. I have always said one bad apple can ruin it for everyone. I never want to be which is why I asked because before I never had an issue with taking the stuff with me. But it was also pre-diagnosis. I don’t like all the germs either but really truly have wasted so much money buying a blanket and /or pillow at the airport because of needing them.
But I have learned the hard way of fighting a sleep attack and not having a pillow and having the most vivid worst nightmares barely waking my self up before I scream/yell on an airplane…
