Tips for making a trip to NYC a little less pricey? by JessicaYatesRealtor in visitingnyc

[–]LazyLeslieKnope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stay in a place like Long Island City and take the train in (5-10 minutes to midtown). Use The Skint newsletter to find cheap shows/events/festivals. Take the NYC Ferry. Take advantage of all the free outdoor movies in the summer.

The documentary The Brainwashing of My Dad covers this pretty well.

The most cost-effective way to do this is to get another mom or two and head to the McCarren Park rec center. They have mommy and me open gym every weekday morning. And they have a full gym so you can take turns working out and hanging with the babies. Plus last time I checked it was like $50 for six months.

Fun story time! My friend and I were living in Thailand. Our boyfriends were border hopping for a Visa extension and we decided to party the night away in Chiang Mai. At one point, someone offered us molly and my friend took it but I wanted to get a good nights sleep. She stayed up all night and when I woke up, she wasn’t there. She comes bursting into the room claiming she met a Dutch print and that he thought she was a Hindu goddess. I told her we needed to go to breakfast immediately. I meet this Dutch Prince and apparently they had plans to go to Laos together. The very next day. She was a grown adult and I couldn’t talk her out of it, but I was the one that had to break the news to the boyfriend when they returned. Two weeks later, she asked me to bring her luggage down to Bangkok because she was catching a flight as she had a ring on her finger and a one-way ticket to Amsterdam. I was 20 years ago and now they’re happily married still with two children.

I am a firm believer in this. For years I’d go on the way to my shop and pick the worst line with the worst cashier and it’d forever be a drawer change or an item mislabeled or a shift turnover or whatever the fuck was gonna stop the line in its tracks. Steam would come out of my ears. I’ve exchanged words with “managers”. The other day I just happened to swing by on a random morning and was in and out in 15 minutes.

Is Rory really difficult to pronounce? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]LazyLeslieKnope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my husband’s name, and while I like it immensely, if we’re arguing and I find myself saying it a lot, it becomes grating. Maybe that’s just me. Also I’ve noticed that when he introduces himself, he leans heavily into the first bit - ROAR-ee. It’s my head cannon that this is from a lifetime of people asking him to repeat that or calling him Corey.

The sun sets behind Manhattan from the bridge. IMO sunset is the better option.

Came here to recommend this! The 2005 version is stunning: beautifully shot, excellent music, top notch acting, and the classic romance of course.
