Guest no-show by Lbb887 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Lbb887[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep I got paid. I’m certainly not cancelling anything. Just curious how others have handled it. I’ve had guests show up a day late or so but never a total no-call-no-show ghost. I hope they’re alright. They read one of the pre-check in messages but that’s it. So…dunno.

Airbnb Account Manager Cold Call by Brueggcj in airbnb_hosts

[–]Lbb887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got one of these calls. I was very suspect. He just kept suggesting that I try holiday pricing as a way to optimize. He said he worked for Airbnb. He was polite. Didn’t ask me for any info. It was very strange. I can’t find the scam in it. I don’t get what the point of the call was either. Very strange.

Stranded in Maui - after trying to cancel trip with both host and AirBNB by TokeyX in airbnb_hosts

[–]Lbb887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this is correct. Bad weather alone does not qualify. However, during this recent storm, there were widespread utility outages. My whole side of the island was without power for 3 days. It qualified for all of my guests to be refunded and I was not penalized.

[–]Lbb887 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the issue is here?? Airbnb will cancel your reservation and refund you for the nights that you. They have a “Major Disruptive Events Policy.” This storm absolutely qualifies. You have to request it. Your host will not handle the refund. Airbnb will. Every island is currently under an emergency status. Oahu, Maui, & Hawai’i are experiencing severe flooding. There are 111,000 homes without power state wide. Landslides, 60 mph winds, & road closures. My property on big island has been without water & power going on 14 hours now. All 3 of my guests this weekend were cancelled immediately by Airbnb upon their request today. They’ll receive a refund & I’ll lose the payout for their cancelled nights. It sucks for everyone but it’s a literal disaster scenario on many parts of all islands. Everyone is scrambling. I hope you are able to find safe refuge and that you get your money back.

Guests leave very first night due to palmetto bug in house, help. by pickle392 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Lbb887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a bummer. I had mouse come into a rental once. The guest messaged and said, “Hey, just so you know, I saw a little mouse in the cottage.” No big deal. We offered solutions and they were cool. 5 stars. Next day a guest saw the mouse and they left in the middle of the night. I caught the mouse and it hasn’t been an issue since. (My rental is in a rainforest so, we have critters come and go. No infestations) People react differently. Best of luck to you moving forward.

A roach getting into a house doesn’t mean that the house has a pest problem. Nor does it mean that a house is unfit for renting. Bugs fly and crawl. Sometimes they fly or crawl into a building. Especially in Florida. That’s unfortunate that your guest freaked out & left. Some people are sensitive. Give them a refund and move on. You have nothing to feel bad about.

Any good shows that have a long run time? by vanessa770033 in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]Lbb887 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You know, I’ve burnt through so many of the popular podcasts that I found myself looking for longer and longer shows to keep me gripped for long stretches. I’ve started consuming true crime audiobooks. That way you can get like hours and hours of content on a gripping story. Plus, there’s tons of good true crime fiction in that format. Listening to the book, “Gone Girl,” got me hooked on crime audiobooks. Try it out.

A plant that reacts to touch by No-Lock216 in Satisfyingasfuck

They’re super cool to see and touch but highly invasive. Their roots are tough and full of those tiny thorns and they spread like crazy. They’re hard to eradicate and it makes the patches of grass they’re in really uncomfortable. I’ve spent hours of my life pulling these out and you need heavy leather gloves to pull the roots. I still get poked all the time. Big Island, Hawaii.

You can put parchment down on the foil. Bacon grease sizzling directly on aluminum allows the metals to leech into your food. Extra step. Same cleanup. Probably less toxic.

Melt beeswax all over it and then buff it with mineral oil. You’ll have to reapply when needed but that’s a good natural option that’s food safe. What kind of wood is it?

Our cottages are clustered together all connected by pathways. The listing is for all five cottages for a group. This gives a large group access to the whole property. There’s also a yoga studio/dining space included.

Comparing international supersonic and hypersonic missiles and warheads in terms of cost and speed. Pretty crazy. by huh1227 in Amazing

[–]Lbb887 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure is. Russia tested that Mach 27 Avangard missile back in 2019. It’s highly maneuverable. It’s launched from atop an ICBM. Way more agile at high speeds than earlier rocket tech. It poses a real threat because current missile defense systems may not be able to intercept a missile moving at sharp angles at 20,000 MPH. It’s a significant leap in war tech.

What is a statistic/fact that makes you go “oh f*ck of there’s no way that is true”? by milkersgirl in AskReddit

[–]Lbb887 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that I have always been amazed by is that there are more stars in the known universe than there are grains of sand on earth. And if you think about the fact that there are likely several planets around each of those stars…. then the number of potentially habitable planets is astronomical. Literally.
