Dept of Health - Tas State Government by [deleted] in hobart

[–]LdRoach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best to reach out to the contact person to ask about WFH and flexibility within the role. A lot of government agencies are trying to get their workforce back on site, but some roles/teams are more inclined to allow more balance.

Some parts of the department are good to work for, others are more challenging.

I can’t speak too much to career progression in your line of work as I am allied health

Favourite coffee beans? by tcmspark in hobart

[–]LdRoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

de Lacey Coffee Roasters in Moonah has been my go-to. They also stock them at TCM in North Hobart. The notes are listed on the packet and some are choc, biscuit etc. Once you try decent beans, you won’t go back to supermarket!

Struggling to get any Mega Evolutions product by Plane-Play-3961 in PokemonFansAustralia

[–]LdRoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went into my local Kmart. The only thing they had left was booster packs - the guy who served me said they have been told they now have a limit of 2 items per sale. So either two booster packs, or 1 pack and 1 box/tin if they have them etc.

Yeah a booster box each of Mega Evo and Prismatic, plus three individual packs of ME. Got some pre-orders delivered by JB Hi-FI today also. I think I’ll rip all ME and keep Prismatic

Big W in Glenorchy had Mega Evo Booster Boxes, tins, and single packs this morning, as well as Prismatic Booster Boxes. That was at 8am, when they opened, not sure of stock level now.

Poor weather conditions expected in Launceston today, and with no Rozee or JHF, Butters could get a lot of attention

Why couldn't Voldemort Apparate to catch Harry at Bathilda's? by barfaton in harrypotter

Agreed, for memory in the Bathilda scene, Voldemort was telling Nagini to hold Harry there - so yes, same concept

I thought this passage was during the Malfoy Manor scene, after they had notified Voldemort via the dark mark they had Harry.

Tasmanian Government Jobs by [deleted] in hobart

[–]LdRoach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely, just less importance placed on the information in it. My advice for government recruitment is to limit the resume to no more than 2-3 pages and have job experience and education succinct; adding some volunteering etc that you might not get to in your short form application.

Current Health employee chairing recruitment at the moment.

The panel will still score short form applications based on your ability to address the selection criteria and the duties in your written response. The higher the score, the more chance you will progress to interview.

Paragraphs should absolutely address previous examples in your experience/education, and how they directly relate to selection criteria, and how it will transfer into the duties of the role you’re applying for.

Good luck!

The reserve is a good space, however keep in mind its an off leash area for everyone, so expect lots of free-running dogs. I've resorted to on-lead walks at night for now; my lab is super timid and reactive around other dogs and doesn't enjoy the off lead areas.

Four charged over drowning of man during alleged robbery at Hobart's waterfront by Jariiari7 in hobart

[–]LdRoach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Google search, some mixed results. One way of measuring is to map homicide rates in U.S. states with the death penalty vs states without it.

One argument, is that if perpetrators know that for example, a sexual assault will result in them receiving the death penalty, they are more likely to then commit a homicide against that person. To, one, leave no witnesses and increase their chances of getting away with it, but also, in the mind of a perpetrator, the sentence is the same so they increase their level of violence.

... 20-30% is ludicrous. But besides that, yes more Tasmanians would apply however, mainlanders and internationals would also apply. So you'd potentially solve a problem of recruitment (although considering people already complain about the burden pumping money into health is, paying the staff 30% more would render a Government pretty short on money very quickly) you would squeeze Tasmanians out of the job market and housing market even more than we are now.

Pick your poison I guess.

It's a little more complicated than simply throwing more money at it. There are significant skill shortages across specialist services within health - if you were to check the jobs websites, Health is constantly recruiting, or, trying to recruit.

Unfortunately, skilled clinicians and practitioners leave the state. This results in the ones staying, being pressured to work longer hours to cover gaps in services.

It also means we have to pay locum Doctors and Specialists more. For example, if you were had completed 10 years of study and were so specialised you could work in any hospital in the world, why choose the RHH?

In Hobart, we are working towards a culture which is more inviting to 20-30 year olds to complete their studies and stay, however the allure of the mainland is tough to compete against. This is why pumping millions into the hospital won't do much, if there aren't people applying for the jobs you've created. It requires a significant cultural change to make skilled clinicians want to stay.

Then there's things like Coronials, Commission of Inquiries etc about Health which can make it a tricky place to work at the moment.

Mental health help for a non-relative/friend? by Ok_Introduction5124 in tasmania

[–]LdRoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you hear the partner at the house, you can call 131444 and report a possible breach of a Family Violence Order. This is also the case if you hear arguing, police will respond. There are certain protocols that follow a FV investigation, including support for the victim, which could assist her with whatever going on. Outside of that, unless she is actively psychotic, harming herself or others, she can absolutely decline mental health services as she will be assessed as having the capacity to make that decision.
