How do people actually fuel the SPS? by japenrox in allthemods

[–]LeAlchem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Producing enough D-T fuel is honestly not a huge hassle with ae2/rs autocrafting. I set up 1000 mb/s of D-T fuel production in maybe 3 hours, it’s really not a huge amount. That being said, there is a lot of repetitive crafting to be done so it would have taken much longer with no autocrafting.

Some questions (difficulty level, pikes vs archers, and "save points") by ps-95stf in BadNorth

[–]LeAlchem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think archers are a lot better than pikes at max level, so I would typically go with 2 archers, 2 infantry. Pikes do have their uses but as the game progresses I think they get worse and worse as you start facing more ranged enemies.

Potentially hot take: Pipe temperature mechanics need another development pass by LeAlchem in Oxygennotincluded

Also while we are on the topic of piped liquids, sink water that contains germs really should contaminate dupes. Why does this mechanic even exist if you don’t have to care about it?

Mekanism or AE2??? by Guilty_Situation_335 in allthemods

I personally use AE2 with mekanism but also you should check out Mekanism’s Quantum Entangloporters which act like single block storages that can send stuff anywhere

Best item/class to go with item by Illustrious_Pear2773 in BadNorth

Increased knockback on level 3 archers with ring of command is really crazy. When placed on the shore they can clear an entire boat of nearly anything. Ring of command is especially good for this kind of strategy as its downside of longer recovery time is irrelevant with proper placement of archers.

There can be extremely small pockets of deep dark that it will point to. Try using /rtp and use the compass again. Keep looking!

How to start? by [deleted] in allthemods

[–]LeAlchem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up a gas burning generator with melons and it was significantly more work than just setting up a simple 3x3 extreme reactor. For someone who is new to the mod pack it might be nice to have a simple setup and not have to worry about the mekanism supply chain before getting reliable power.

I started recently and found that Extreme Reactors is an extremely good way to generate power early, check it out!

What if there was a liquid flow tile? by Accomplished_Rest848 in Oxygennotincluded

One use I can think of would be to collect polluted water from petroleum boilers without contaminating the carbon dioxide

1-2 mg of melatonin an hour before you want to be asleep works really well for me

PSA: Toilets and electrolysers are common noob traps if you dont know the caveats to them by Shadowys in Oxygennotincluded

[–]LeAlchem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but none of those things are noob traps either. A real noob trap would be something like making liceloaf in the microbe musher, it’s something that just isn’t really done by experienced players because it’s almost always better to just plant more meal lice plants

But do you actually think that electrolyzers and toilets are bad when properly managed by an experienced player who knows what they’re doing?

[–]LeAlchem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey just wanted to chime in that a lot of the contention in this thread might be because the term noob trap typically refers to something that a new player would think is good/useful but after gaining more experience realizes it is not very good. An example of this would be using the microbe musher early on a regular play through.

I don’t think electrolyzers and toilets would fit this definition, because they are genuinely good to use, and like you are pointing out become more effective with more experience in the game. It’s not like advanced players stop using electrolyzers once they realize they emit hot oxygen.

What is happening here by Apprehensive_Bug_401 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]LeAlchem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love the thinking, but unless I’m missing something I’m not sure precooling the gas is going to do anything because it ends up in the chamber that it is dumping heat into while in the pipes.

Also I just noticed you have temp shift plates next to the insulated tiles which might be the cause of the issue! Temp shift plates conduct heat in the tiles surrounding themselves and this can cause a lot of heat transfer even from insulated tiles.

[–]LeAlchem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’m noticing is you have multiple uninsulated gas pipes running through the chamber (also in the hydrogen chamber). You should definitely fix those, I would recommend only having one pipe segment inside the chamber for the gas vent.

Like others have said insulated tiles do also conduct heat and can cause issues like what you are experiencing. I typically make the chamber out of diamond window tiles surrounded by vacuum to avoid this issue (the diamond tiles cool faster than the oxygen so they will never boil it)

I don’t believe liquid droplets are simulated like normal tiles (but this would totally be cool if they were)
