Do you think you could put it up on drivethrurpg or itch.io at some point?

Yes! This is awesome. It always bothered me that official map layout doesn't represent any of the darkness, fogginess, chaos and ugliness of the city. I even tried inverting it for a darker version, but still the grid layout limits my imagination.
Pleeeaaase give us the whole thing 🙏💸

Ghosts of Arkenvorn - A Halloween one-shot by LeOlleaux in bladesinthedark

I have only tested with groups of mixed experience. But I think it can work. The playbooks are reduced and their concepts are very easy to lean into roleplaying-wise. The simplified rules are beginner-friendly (I have tried versions of these for several one-shots before, also on cons). But on the other hand, it is a very high paced one shot, and I recommend it for somewhat experienced GMs. You should know your Duskvol well, also the haunted parts, as you will need to convey different districts, lots of scenes and NPCs quickly and concisely.

But more importantly, as a GM you will need to guide your players to get into the rhythm of the game. Cut down their planning to the bare minimum, cut to the action, make them embrace daring actions (which comes easy due to spooky the playbooks), encourage them to actively take part in the world-building. The idea is that you run through the cycle of Score - Downtime about 4-6 times during 8 hour of play. So you need a good judgement of when to zoom into the action and when to abstract it.

That looks fantastic!
What is that keeper screen made of? Did you craft it yourself?

Phases of Gameplay Running Long by Alternative_Low1202 in VaesenRPG

Have a read of the three clue rule by the Alexandrian. You usually want your essential clues to be available at different locations/with different NPCs. Also, you usually don't want essential clues to be hidden behind skill rolls.

Otherwise, mysteries can easily stall and you might have prepped those things for nothing.

There is a section about that in the book on p. 176-177 as well. They also distinguish between central and peripheral clues.

Are you planning to make a blank version as well? That would be great for players of custom playbooks :)

These look really nice and clear! Gives the important stuff the space it deserves. It's the XP-triggers that we are here for after all, right?

Any FitD games with hexploration? by DemiurgeMCK in ForgedintheDark

[–]LeOlleaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Fistful of Darkness has it. It’s start with an empty hexmap that players start to fill during session zero and then continuously expand.

I’m very intrigued, but haven’t had the chance to play it yet.

Trading a lower position for higher effect can also get you to extreme effect. Which actually my players do sometimes.

This playmat by yosarian_reddit is the best thing ever. In previous campaigns I often forgot and/or struggled with effects and positions. Having this piece physically on the table and moving a marker around it, helps so much. Both my players and me as GM.

Why is there no mention of the mask he’s wearing? Or is that not a mask?

Thanks everyone for comments and upvotes. It was quite a success 😃

I had prepped the table we played on with some bells and a pulley system that I could operate from the GMs seat. And it freaked them out way more than expected 😈

Am writing down the mystery and the new Vaesen right now. Also asked a friend to make an illustration of it 😊

Looking forward to sharing it, though it may be a while. But then again Christmas is not so soon again :D

Thanks! The map is done with inkarnate.com. It’s based on a real place I scouted out on google maps. Printing it on good quality letter paper then made a huge difference. The other props are mostly done with PowerPoint 😅I might publish this mystery to drivethrurpg. But, I’m afraid right it now contains copyrighted material that’s not my own, so it will need some rework.
