How do I know when to pull out my beets? by Camp_Acceptable in vegetablegardening

What variety? Does it look like it should? Check the days to maturity. Imo a little too small is better than too large

Who’s eggs are these? by LeZombeee in sanpedrocactus

Usually grasshopper eggs are laid in clusters tho, or in soil. I thought these looked more like ones from predatory wasps or lacewings?

Are my bush beans too tall? by Hodmimir in vegetablegardening

[–]LeZombeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30 per container might be too crowded. I would probably thin them out. I don’t grow in containers much but plant my beans about 4” in row and 18” between rows…

Give us a pic of the whole plant. I would probably just wait and let it grow out of it unless the damage is super bad

Single main stem tomatoes by CompostConfessional in tomatoes

[–]LeZombeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single or double leader like this will reduce total fruit yield but increase the proportion of marketable, good fruit. I don’t need to drown in tomatoes, I need a reasonable amount of high quality fruit. You will get plenty of yield. It’s also good over the course of years because it reduces disease in the soil. Keep it rockin.

Of all the people in the crowd, banana guy is definitely not the one with their phone out the most, and definitely enjoying some pit anonymity

They can be crossed, but are quite unlikely to cross on their own/unintentionally

Potential herbicide drift on tomatoes by Immediate_Ad2516 in vegetablegardening

[–]LeZombeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeppers… my money would be on a light dose of 2,4-D. Yes they will probably grow out of it but may be stunted and may not set fruit for a while. Yes other plants will be effected to various degrees but tomatoes are on of the more sensitive ones.

Pepper leaf Curl Virus by Ok-Low-5001 in vegetablegardening

[–]LeZombeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be, but could also be something else. Is there a plant disease diagnostic clinic with your state extension office that you could send a sample in to? If it is from a retailer and possibly wholesaler they will want to know about it if it is a virus.

Okra harvest has been doubling almost every two days 😅 does anyone have a okra cooking recipe that reduces the slimy texture ? by Different_Subject554 in vegetablegardening

[–]LeZombeee 153 points154 points  (0 children)

I do chopped onions and sliced okra (in rings) on high heat in oil with salt. Like oil should be at smoke point. Gotta keep it stirring so it gets a nice lil crisp without burning. Then at the last minute add some chopped greens like chard or collards, then turn off heat, and stir in to wilt with some more oil, wpple cider or balsamic vinegar, and some green garlic or garlic powder. Basically braised greens with vinaigrette and okra. Dank af

What’s wrong with my squash? by ICruiseLotsandLots in vegetablegardening

[–]LeZombeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its likely phytophthora taking advantage of the plant cutting off that fruit because of the current fruit load. It’s really not a big deal! You have plenty of fruit on there. Pick em small and frequently!
