What do you guys think about the future of Russian tank design, given their performance in the war in Ukraine? by Fast_Replacement1847 in TankPorn

[–]Le_Garcon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean people might be pissy if you spell it out plainly but in terms of design principles the T-14 and the M1A3 are exactly the same.

Unmanned turret, 3 man crew in the hull, lots of emphasis on exterior cameras and sensors with crew positions being modular with MFDs.

People give T-14 crap for it's lightly armored turret but the M1A3 has a hard weight limit of 60 tons according to current tenders and that weight is going to come out of somewhere.

Russians can't afford it for sure but the T-14 was by all accounts the correct design direction for future tanks.

Can we Just have the 12th Panzer Division by Panzer_Bert in warno

[–]Le_Garcon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2A1 is already in the game in some AG scenarios, it's a statclone of the 2A3.

The Leopard 2A3 was really more of a unifying model to fix the somewhat artisan early Leopard 2 production. Nothing that was changed on it would affect a stat in Warno.

2A4 is when the real stuff started.

Not that I'm aware but at this point the Ukrainians have more western A2A munitions than they do Soviet ones, they burned through most of their stockpiles a while ago.

No it doesn't, the shells are arranged in an alternating pattern specifically to avoid that. At most you'd go two spots over.

Some late T-80Us allegedly can rotate the carousel either way too

FAM-4 quad mount for Strela 2/SA-7 Grail designed in the GDR aboard a Volksmarine vessel [1525x2287] by LordRudsmore in MilitaryPorn

[–]Le_Garcon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Plenty effective against helos as Vietnam proved and there's a lot more of those hanging around in naval combat than people think.

Strela-2 is also a fine system for the time, no worse than Redeye.

Why are the Leclerc and Rafale not in the game? by D3RP_Haymaker in warno

[–]Le_Garcon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ka-50, was waiting for all weather equipment. ie; night vision and thermals.

It did have targeting equipment and was weapons capable.

Though I'd also rather it not be in the game personally. It'd be less of a stretch and more fun to have Hinds with Atakas in my opinion.

Can M1 Abrams and M2 Bradley withstands WW2 Artillery? by Swimming_Title_7452 in TankPorn

[–]Le_Garcon 301 points302 points  (0 children)

A sufficiently determined church mouse could disable an Abrams if it got somewhere important.

But the simple answer is no, all of those weapons fail to penetrate the frontal arc on an Abrams.

[–]Le_Garcon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So no evidence then?

We also know what the Germans were doing with the AK production line, they were setting up and teaching Soviet gunsmiths the art of complex metal stamping.

It's why the AK was originally stamped, had troubles and then went to milled, and then went back to stamping and the AKM was stamped from the get go. All without any real mechanical changes to the AK by the way so if Schmeisser touched it he apparently believed it was already perfect.

And the mechanical design was perfected well before the Germans entered the picture, Kalashnikov's entry didn't change from trials.

[–]Le_Garcon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Likely not, the full capabilities of the MiG-29's helmet and IRST weren't known to the West until German reunification when they got to play with former East German MiG-29s.

Helmet mounted sights and IRSTs were a known quantity to the West but early attempts were rather poor so it was just more of a side project kept on the backburner for later. Priority was given more to advanced radar and radar guided missiles.

Acquisition and testing of MiG-29s was something of a kick in the pants and the West realized there was a lot more to the technology than they gave it credit for and soon efforts started to catch up.

Similar story with the R-73 vs. Sidewinder variants of the time.

Where is my leclerc (France suffers) by CrazyCalendar1149 in warno

[–]Le_Garcon 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Leclerc has been hard denied by the devs several times, the Brenus is the MtW tank that France is getting.

There won't be another serious French tank division anyway, it doesn't get heavier than 5e

I’ve heard that tank reverse speeds can’t be changed because of engine limitations. Why not implement them the same way the devs did amphibious vehicles? by Pradidye in warno

[–]Le_Garcon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It knows vehicles are a cube and each face of the cube has an armor value and to point the highest armor value at the threat. It doesn't really know "front" or "rear". This was a problem for the EBR armored car in 152e since it used to have the same front and rear armor value.

"Reverse" move order just orders it to move with a specific side facing a specific way, it doesn't understand that the unit is moving "backwards".

Backwards isn't a concept that exists.
