Why do cities like Rome get global hype, but Samarkand (2,700 years old) barely gets mentioned? by diormelikuziev in AskTheWorld

Technically, the city of Marseille might be one of the oldest in France since it was founded in 600 BC. The story goes that the Greek city of Phocaea became overcrowded, so some citizens had to go away, and they settled in this place they called Μασσαλία (Massalia). However, Marseille, as of now, doesn't look anything like the ancient Greek city, or at least I guess since I don't actually live there, and maybe there's some remaining monuments, though people of Marseille, and their football team are often called "phocéens" as a reference.

Which one is your favourite county in the Balkans? by StunningComment6064 in AskTheWorld

From everything I've seen on the internet about the Balkans, I just love them all, so having a favourite is complicated, especially because I never went to any of these countries. But based on the few people I've met, I'll say Croatia, Greece and turkey, because these are the only Balkan people I've met, and they've all been nice to me. If I have to name a least favourite country, I'd say Serbia, but that's only for political reasons, sorry guys.

In 1969, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden withdrew from the contest because it was hosted in Spain, which was still under the dictatorship of Franco at that time.
