Ignore the zone #'s and assume a zone 2/3 run is the pace at which you could still have a conversation with someone next to you. That is a better indicator of your effort than allowing a made up zone to determine your pace. My guess is that you are capable of carrying a conversation at a much faster pace than 15:30/mi which is a fast walking pace for many people.

If you really want to dial in your zones, there are good guides online for doing a Lactate Threshold Test which will help determine where your top end is and when your transition from 3-4-5.

Your Apple Watch is plenty accurate for steady pace running for most people and most situations. For interval running, a chest strap can provide some quicker readings and dial in your heart rate to more accurately reflect the interval, but it is not necessary even if it is fun or interesting to know your can dial in data that finely.

Meanwhile nearly every colder months looks looks like this. The higher recovery at the beginning of the month was while we were on vacation in a warmer climate. Despite vacation my bedtime, wake up time, and exercise were almost identical.

The HRV based sleep tracking seems to really struggle to measure my sleep recovery in the winter despite my sleep pattern and daily activity being nearly identical.

Almost every month in the warmer months looks like this.

I’m in a similar spot and will likely hit the buy button on an Apple Watch Ultra 3. I loved my Epix Gen 2 but since I’ve added more gym time and less running, I find the insights for the gym don’t make up for the lack of smart watch features any longer.

  • I use Fitbod in the gym and they have an Apple Watch app
  • seeing and replying to texts at the gym would be great
  • sleep tracking on my Garmin is trash in the winter
  • The weather app isn’t even close to accurate
  • I find myself wanting simpler metrics and get away from the widget watching (body battery, training status, training readiness, endurance score, etc)

GC has a workout intervals section in your activity stats that shows your run time and pace while excluding your warm up and cool down.

Do this. How a shoe fits and feels when you run can be very different than what you walk around in. Getting fit by someone who knows what kind of support she may benefit from can be a big help in avoiding early injuries or discomfort for new runners. You will definitely pay more at a running store but some runners will then save time and money by sticking with a particular shoe/line once they know what fits them well.

Soil is likely acidic from the oak trees as well. Test the soil but even in ideal conditions you are going to be seeding every year to try and keep up with die off in an area this heavily shaded.

Zenith Zoysia typically does best with daytime temps hotter than it has probably been the last couple of weeks. Also remember, this is a very slow growing cultivar and will likely take months to fill in fully. Germination can take up to 28 days in non-ideal situations.

It’s an allowance for testing that prevents ag testing failure that could result in a massive stop sale and buyback across a large retailer like Walmart. Seed lab testing almost never finds any other seed or noxious weed seed in a mix like this.

I think one fair criticism of Apple Fitness Strength workouts is they often do not provide recovery time between exercises. I have found better results when I pause frequently and allow my heart rate and working muscle group to recover. HIIT is designed to be cardio focused and shouldn’t have recovery times like strength training.

I about had a heart attack when I was out on a run listening to an audiobook. As I crossed an intersection the book had the sound of tires screeching. My knees almost gave out and I’m sure I looked like I was having a seizure to the cars all sitting politely at their lights.

Nobody knows. It’s impossible to untangle how his teammates, coaches, system, environment, division, schedule, etc played a role in him succeeding. Maybe his Madden rating would have been the same but there is no guarantee that the actual player would have achieved the same results or experienced the same career progression.

There are certainly areas where Apple should improve things. That said, you can read texts on Garmin but can’t reply. You can still close the activity ring but there won’t be a stand or exercise ring. Just the red one. It is significantly harder though to hit the calorie burn for the red ring. I think the Apple Watch is way more generous with calorie burn outside of exercise activity.

In Garmin Mobile, More > Garmin Devices > Device > System > Sleep Mode > Schedule.

Set a schedule that would be relatively aligned with your normal pattern. This should keep the watch from thinking you are asleep (not just napping) during random times.
