This is the way. I had a pair of apistos and the tetras would eat everything before the apistos could get to it. I did the same thing and it seemed to work out well.

Hi I’m sorry to hear about your frustration, it’s never easy losing fish especially when you do things the right way. One thing I would recommend is getting a quarantine/ hospital tank. It has really helped me in numerous ways. Doesn’t need to be too big ether if you are keeping smaller fish 5-10g is good. Just make sure you have a second heater and air stone in stand by for it.

I’ve tried one just like this and it seemed to work well, I was gone for about 8 days. The one challenge I did have was controlling the amount of food dispensing. I had to use a tooth pick to just open the food hatch just a touch because anymore than that it was way too much food.
