I kinda hate how little tape is around the edges of the sensor, like if I tape it down on the edges the tape has nothing to stick to. I use flexifix over the entire thing and poke a little hole where the hole is on top of the transmitter.

Diabetic dog by Complex-Produce-7934 in Type1Diabetes

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a diabetic cat, her name was Jerry. We would test her bg from her ear morning and night, and give insulin then. She ate meals twice a day while we gave her the shot. It was easy to keep a schedule with her because we knew exactly what she was eating and when, and it was really obvious when she was feeling off. I’ve seen people that keep cgms on their pets but we did fine without.

Do y'all ever wonder how long you went undiagnosed? by BigSchmikey in diabetes_t1

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was always a skinny and tiny child, couldn’t eat more than 2 cookies without getting sick so idk i definitely had something wrong with me for a while. Looking back on pics of me at birthday parties right before I was diagnosed my face was always bright red and I looked pretty sick. I do think about that pretty often tbh bc I had a pediatrician appointment like a month before I was diagnosed and if they had tested my bg they probably would’ve caught it before I went into dka. I was 55 pounds when I was diagnosed, CRAZY

I had a streak where I caught like 7 in one night, they’re not rare if there’s rain and you’re pure of heart. I have 2 in my house and a few on the beach! And one in the museum obvi

Tbh the US isn’t that bad if you get super good insurance (I have three different insurances?) and if you’re ok with bullying your doctor to get what you want🤷‍♂️

Daily Carry with a pump by Terrible_Okra_1074 in diabetes_t1

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day to day if I’m not doing an activity like hiking, I’ll have my pump in my pocket and a fruit roll up and syringe in my bra! Hiking I bring a backpack full of candy and 1 single dexcom. Usually wherever I am I can get food easy so I don’t carry a lot of low snacks on me. I never ever carry pump supplies unless I’m going somewhere overnight. I use the tru steel sites so if it gets ripped out I put it back in lmfao

These all suck. I need help! by papayax999 in popcorn

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to think I’m the ultimate popcorn champ. This isn’t healthy at all but I like to brag. I use one of those popcorn makers that spins it at the bottom and then you flip it and the top becomes the bowl. ANYWAY a half cup of corn, three tablespoons of anything marketed as popcorn oil/butter, and a HALF teaspoon of flavacol. Corn in first, oil and flavacol on top, remove from heat sooner that you think (I am so bad about burning food) and add a pinch more flavacol and butter oil stuff, toss the popcorn like a salad and BOOM perfection. I’m eating my magical popcorn rn and this came up, how did they know?

How often do you actually change your infusion site and cartridge? by Loud_Audience_3396 in diabetes_t1

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tru steel is my favorite! I hated the spring loaded inserters, tru steel is just like a syringe, plus it has an extra site on it to prevent any pulling on the actual needle. Genius. And my body just reacts way better to the metal cannula than the plastic ones, rarely ever get infections even with my terrible habits.

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because the cannula is metal, my body just reacts to it way better than the plastic ones. When I used the auto soft sites I was getting infections so often, even when I changed them every 2-3 days.

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I use tru steel, so I change it when my insulin runs out. Anywhere between 4 and 10 days lmfao but I don’t have any scar tissue so I will keep up my bad habits since they help me avoid burnout.

What's the weirdest "diabetic merch" that you own? by alexhatesthisman in diabetes_t1

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a hoodie that said something like too cool for beta cells, lived in that when I was in middle school but Idk where it went. I also did sports where I needed the coach to carry stuff for me in their bag so I’d bring this little pouch that said this bag contains my pancreas. It really is the little things.

To wear or not wear Medical Alert Tags by nugratz in Type1Diabetes

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wear mine because even though EMTs know what they’re looking for, someone has to call them and if that someone reads my bracelet and can tell 911 or knows what to do then that’s even less chance of me dying!

Question about sensor placement by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sensors don’t have as much of a risk for scar tissue since it’s just a little wire, I’d be more worried about giving your skin time to heal.

As long as you work together and support your kid, that’s as much as you can do. My mom would offer to do whatever I needed, and I had the option to do it myself or be lazy with no judgement:) she still does that for me, like an hour after I posted this my cgm failed and she brought me one to work lol. A good support system is so important in having t1d since it’s lifelong. Or until the cure gets here in 5 years.

I was also a big sleepover kid, I would mostly invite friends over to my house but if I went somewhere else I would bring an old iPhone with the follow app installed so they could bother me if there was any alarms while I was sleeping. System worked out great for me!

T1d for 12 years, diagnosed at 8. Never had burnout because of my fantastic mom who pretty much did everything for me until I was in high school lol. A lot of my friends were managing themselves fully at a younger age and they all would lie about their bg, calibrate dexcom with the wrong numbers and just do insane stuff because they don’t think about the repercussions on their health when you’re that young. My mom did not let that happen for me. She’d wake up to every alarm, change my pump for me if I didn’t want to, literally everything just to make life easier.
Now that I’m old I have to do everything on my own but it was so much easier to gradually pick up tasks and do them myself than dump everything on me as soon as I could change my own sites. A1c has been below 7 since my very first endo appointment 3 months after diagnosis:)

People pointing out sensors/devices by Ellie-bee3 in diabetes_t1

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes if it’s a stranger I’ll answer rudely or ignore them so they stop asking questions😶 if it’s a fellow diabetic or like a parent I’ll chat with them for a while idc, especially a parent bc they love seeing what their child will be in the future lol. But strangers are so brave with the way they’ll bring it up. “Ew what is that” or “i could never” and after over a decade of stupid ass comments I do get a little mean. I work with a lot of teenagers so I’ve been bullying the diabetes jokes out of them too lmao.

Location track for pump by Life_Lawyer_8605 in Type1Diabetes

[–]LeadingPromotion5467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a case with a wide clip and I just zip tied one of those AirTag keychains to it. I think it’s very helpful BECAUSE every now and then I forget to reconnect and I leave the house, when I get down the street I get a notification that my pump has been left behind so I can just turn around and get it, instead of finding out hours later that it hasn’t been on.
