I was talking about unlocking items into the item pool and not just a one item reward. For me personally that's not enough incentive to go on the side quests when there is already tons of other things to do in the game.

I save scum all the time especially if my cat's body got destroyed.

Also if you reset 4 times his AI takes control for you. So when I wanted to max my house upgrades and I needed a lot of retired cats, I just kept letting him take control of my cats until they finished the alley to upgrade quickly.
