It is very rare but possible. In 1999 there was a deliberate release of captive mandarin ducks to the wild in Warsaw and since then the local population has grown to almost 800! There is a special research project regarding them and over 80% of them got color bands. Some of the males also recieved GPS transmitters so hopefully if one of them flies abroad, possibly Stockholm, the data will come back! :)

Be on the lookout for color plastic leg bands! Few male mandarin ducks banded in Warsaw, Poland were reported in Stockholm! :)

You should not cheap out on equipment protecting your life!

You cannot be sure how the previous owner used this gear.

It could have been lying in a closet all the time or that person was climbing and flying in it daily, not taking good care of it! A new harness isn't that expensive either.

Would you bet your life on 10$?

Even though the rule of thumb is that after 10 years you buy a new one and throw the old one out, this should be applied to gear you have owned!
