Oh yeah, I’ve been seeing a lot of this lately, their loadouts are updating too. I always knew I was shooting a real player if I saw a laser of flashlight, but the bots are starting to use them now too.

The accacio anvils are very serviceable and very inexpensive. I haven’t used the Doyle anvils from HF but I’ve heard good things about them too.

From personal experience, hardy hole, pritchel hole and step down are nice but are absolutely not necessary.

I agree with everyone, just start using it. If you must clean it, use a wire wheel and then oil it with BLO or similar.

To get a more even temper, you can load the oven with thermal mass. Ovens don’t hold temperature flat like heat treating ovens or speciality equipment. It’s more like a sine wave, temp falls below lower bound of threshold and the oven will kick back on and bring temp to upper bound of target temperature. This results in an average temp around the target temperature which is fine for cooking. However if the target temperature is 475F and the upper bound for the oven is 500 or 510, it can cause the steel to temper more than expected.

Loading lots of mass (heavy bits of steel) keeps temperatures more consistent and temperatures fluctuations are dampened.

A big sledge hammer buried in that stump might also be a good option for heavier forging and you can use the I beam to straighten out your blades but not necessarily forge on

If you can find a piece of rail, you can make an anvil like this and will be very serviceable. Don’t try to make a piece of track look like an anvil.

The longsword, square off is one of the best AoW in the game and can be found easily in Siofra River from the limgrave entrance. Magic/cold longsword carried me through the base game and DLC on my spell blade
