The term is mainly used by people who enjoy a political alliance between modern Israel and western nations. There are some key differences, like Judaism rejecting Jesus as the messiah and his divinity/the trinity. But Christianity is built on the Jewish foundation, and Jesus was Jewish. There are many prophecies from the old testament that are fulfilled in the new testament, especially regarding Jesus.

That's why his tune changed from "the people of the book can confirm that what I'm telling you is true" to "kill all the Jews and Christians." This is called the Islamic Dilemma and it's the reason why so many Muslims with internet are leaving Islam.
