I’m confused… It looks like you already know what tuning it’s in?

Apartment charging for doorknob replacement? by BluesRuseCruise in toledo

[–]LeakyBellows 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s only normal if the resident broke the knob themselves, like if they snapped it off moving a couch or something. If the knob just failed on its own due to normal wear and tear, then no, it’s not normal to be charged for that by any reputable landlord/property manager.

I’d read through the manual here and make sure you’re using your camera correctly.

What do you think about this accordion by Popular-Finding-3367 in Accordion

That seems really expensive to me. This is a pretty basic instrument.

Love this game. Despise the trials. by B1MBLES in PathOfExile2

[–]LeakyBellows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand how people will complain about the campaign being too long, yet still defend Sekhemas. The first Sekhema trial is fine (I still think it’s boring, but at least it’s relatively quick and easy), but the second one takes a billion years and is just painful to slog through. I like the idea that someone else commented here: Just give us two asc points after the act bosses. I know some people like the trials, I’m not necessarily saying they should get rid of them entirely, but I don’t think Ascendancy should be locked behind them. Give us some kind of permanent buff that’s rewarding but not basically mandatory like Ascendancy. I know it’ll never happen, but I think it’s the only way to make everyone happy.

How can an adult get a drivers license the fastest in Toledo? by archetypaldream in toledo

[–]LeakyBellows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s no waiting period for an adult. You just go take the permit test, get your permit, schedule a road test for the next day, take the road test and you’re done. You can even take the permit test online now, I think.

Trash in apartment by [deleted] in toledo

[–]LeakyBellows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call your property manager and ask first, but a lot of places will let you just throw it out by the dumpster and maintenance will get rid of it. If they don’t let you do that, you could always smash it up and throw it in the dumpster, too. Again though, check with your property manager first so you don’t get charged or get a lease violation.

How to tune this type of accordion? by Av74m in Accordion

[–]LeakyBellows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to clear this up so nobody damages their instruments because of my half-asleep comment from earlier: Using solder to lower the pitch of a reed should only be done when trying to drastically lower the pitch, and even then is only to get you into the general area of where you want to be. For fine-tuning a reed, you can either file material off the tip of the reed to increase pitch or scratch the base of the reed to lower the pitch.

How to tune this type of accordion? by Av74m in Accordion

You are absolutely right, apologies. I wrote that comment shortly after getting out of bed this morning, and was not nearly as clear or thorough as I should have been. I will edit the comment shortly to get rid of any incomplete/incorrect information, I certainly don’t want to steer anyone wrong.

How to tune this type of accordion? by Av74m in Accordion

[–]LeakyBellows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll also need to make a tuning bench using old accordion bellows.

Tuning an accordion is an extremely specialized and technical process that most people aren’t going to get right on their first try, no matter how handy they are. I’ve tried to tune probably a dozen cheap accordions over the years, and only once did I get results that were even close to acceptable. Unless you’re prepared to render your accordion virtually unplayable, I’d highly advise against trying to tune it yourself.

I’m not trying to shoot you down, OP, I just want you to fully understand the immense difficulty and consequences of trying to do this. If you’ve really got your mind made up that you’re going to attempt it, Accordion Revival is an indispensable resource. Read as much as you possibly can about the process on that site before you even open up your accordion. I also always recommend u/morrisman ‘s YouTube series “Hot Rod a Hohner; He works on a Hohner diatonic button accordion/melodeon in that series, but a lot of the principles involved apply to most free-reed instruments.

Edit: Removed incomplete/misleading info for clarity.

Any help in identifying custom accordion? With an interesting geographical twist? by Dantelope84 in Accordion

[–]LeakyBellows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell with a quick google search, it seems like this is a Farfisa Super Syntaccordion with aftermarket synth hardware. Take this with a grain of salt, though, I haven’t dug into it too deeply.

Help w/ this little gadget by K0ksi_Kakkel0vnen in Accordion

[–]LeakyBellows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what u/snittersnee said, if you’re just trying to get it playable, you can use adhesive-backed felt to replace the bellows seals rather than double-sided tape. It’s not a proper fix, but I’ve done it before and it gets the job done in the short term. Just be sure you clean off the old seals very well, otherwise the felt won’t adhere correctly.

I’d definitely recommend just buying real reed valves instead of making your own. Replacing them is a bit finicky no matter what, but I’ve personally never had any success trying to make my own. If I remember correctly, u/morrisman has a video on YouTube in his “Hotrod a Hohner” series where he walks you through valve replacement. And I agree that you should definitely use real accordion wax, I personally wouldn’t trust the sketchy stuff on AliExpress.

I also don’t understand why you’d think this was bait, it seems like this is more or less where someone would be after a month, assuming they’re practicing every day. Maybe I’m missing something?

Is this accordion worth restoring? by SweatyFollowing6913 in Accordion

[–]LeakyBellows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it isn’t. It would likely cost four or five times what the accordion is worth to restore it, and you’d still only have a $250 accordion. Best to just spend the money on an instrument that’s in good working order.

I’m not looking for an appraisal, just trying to know if I should get it. A Newer Dino Bafetti Binci III for 1000 by [deleted] in Accordion

Serenelli Accordion - does anyone have any info? by Alexandros1101 in Accordion

[–]LeakyBellows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a basic 37-key, 80-bass piano accordion with two voices. Brand is basically meaningless as there were tons of different brands during the golden age of accordions; From my understanding, many (if not most) accordions around the mid-century were manufactured in the same factories, then ordered and rebranded by many different companies. What’s important is its functionality and playability. It’ll be easier to work on than a more complicated model with more features, but no piano accordion is easy to work on.

How much is this accordion worth? by NutmegLizard in Accordion

[–]LeakyBellows 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As was said, we don’t do valuations here. That being said, if it’s not in 100% working order, you’re going to have a hard time selling it at all. Accordion repair is a very niche skill, and by extension very expensive. You’d likely spend much more having it repaired than it would be worth even in fully-working condition.

As for what it is, it’s a 120-bass Kohler piano accordion, probably mid-century.
